  • From a beautiful lady, an verry beautiful song!! Greetings from Holland.

  • Amazing!

  • Wow. She has such a pure, lovely voice. Can't imagine a more perfect presentation of this mournful but beautiful song. I'm mesmerized. :)

  • Hayley has such a beautiful voice in everything she sings.

  • PRAISE GOD ....keep it honey;;GOD BLESS

  • Beautiful song, from a beautiful singer, this song always upsets me though, my eyes are filling up as I type this *sniff*

  • This song was a comfort when my mom was dying in April 2011. Thanks!

  • Her voice is so pure it's incredible. Wonderful job, Hayley!

  • all i can say then IS BEAUIFUL PRAISE GOD

  • Challenge cup final song , cmon you leeds :)

  • @rudgi132 bring it back for the fa cup final loved it for years was my day to here this song xxxxxx

  • Not softheart, but this touches me seriously. Too bad I can't sing it by myself, my voice diapason isn't so wide...

  • Love you Nana, This was your favourite song :-[ And you will never be forgotten in this family x

  • :-) Brad

  • just love this song as was my nans favourite and she was a mum to me, love you nan rip,

  • Absolutely beautiful all around. That includes the performance, song, and especially her. Besides sounding wonderful, she has a very high cuteness factor. Cheers!

  • a true fallen angel.

her voice is one on the marvells of this miserable world

  • i mean no harm, but i really think the boy choir libera sing better, maybe it was just because they are little boys, pure and angelike.any adult couldn't sing that pure

  • @chinese942 I absolutely agree!

  • My favourite hymn, by my favourite singer!!! Wow!

  • she can ssing very good but for me, my mum is the absolute number one singer for this song (she sang it sometimes when I was little at bedtime).

  • My Windows Media player attributed this song to Thelonius Monk. Oh, wmp, you've got the wrong "Monk" there. XD

  • Before I even read her name, I could tell she was in Celtic Woman. I'd recognize that beautiful sound anywhere. Simply magnificent and what a great way to thank God for your talents by singing a hymn as beautiful as she has done.

    FK

  • Very, very moving. Thank you.

  • Try the version on the soundtrack of 28 Days Later

  • @MrBuglebuggy I like that one too...I think it's darker, though. It lacks the hope of this arrangement, as if in the desperation the voice has lost faith--especially without the musical accompaniment. I suppose it all depends on one's mood or outlook.

  • so beautiful

  • Excellent piece of work!! Thank you very much for Sharing!!!!!

What a way of meeting people and get to see their talent. At first was reluctant being on youtube, but getting to do this has brought me into the houses of some very special people. You are one of them. Life; isn't it wonderful!!! Keep up the good work. Hope You Are Having A Splendid Day!!!!

    A New Friend

  • god bless all the victims of the earthquake today 22nd feb 2011 our heart and prayers are with all new zealanders

  • too loud....

  • My Mother wanted Abide With Me played at her funeral so this is the version we used when she passed away. It is just beautiful and haunting and although Mum hadn't heard this version I know she would have loved it.

  • I am one of the worship leaders in my church and how I would love to have her singing in my team. This is one of the best renditions of this hymn that I have heard in a very long time.Thank you for downloading it.

  • This is the most beautiful song I've ever heard.

  • I think of myself as agnostic. But when I hear this song, it's like hearing the voice of an angel. Then I feel the presence of God.

  • I am an atheist, but I still find her voice and this hymn to be moving.

  • staggeringly beautiful! I have tears streaming down my face. This has always been my favourite hymn and have even written my own words to the tune. How I would love to hear you sing them. You are so gifted.

  • she has the voice of an angel

  • Thanks for posting this. Must admit in my ignorance of not being familiar with Haley. WOW what a voice - a tremendous rendition of a lovely song. For football fans I would love her to perform before the next FA cup final at Wembley. Fantastic performance sung with so much control and passion.

  • Thank you... this hymn brings so much comfort to me.

rest in peace Jason - Dec. 19 2010

    "Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day;

Earth's joys grow dim; its glories pass away.

Change and decay in all around I see...

    O thou who changest not,

    Abide with me...."

  • This is so beautiful! is there sheet music for it? with the piano and string quartet? i want to do it for my recital

  • Really amazing. I was shopping for CD's and one of Hayley's caught my eye. Something inside told me to try it, I did, and wasn't disappointed. So strange because I had never seen or heard of her. I prefer her voice above all others.

  • Hayley's voice has a certain resonance to it that doesn't need accompaniment.

  • Way to go Hayley!! This is probably the best rendition of this hymn I have every heard. Her voice is sharp and clear and she has an excellent ear for tone.

  • This song is absolutely amazing and I just think anyone would just love to have her voice, but noone can because we are all different....but the point is, Hayley is an angel truely sent from Heaven to bring peace and joy to this wonderful Earth of ours!

    We Love You Hayley!!!!

  • Read some of the less flattering comments , gnarly sound , get a life ! What a voice and with a hymn that touches your soul . Going to see her in Glasgow on the 17th Dec 2010 . Cant wait !

  • Brilliant Hymn and Amazing singer. Fantastic arrangement and orchestration. Thank you so much for this post.

  • I wish I could invite Hayley to live with me. The only thing she'd ever have to do the rest of her life would be sing. Pretty boring for her but I can't think of any other way to get an angel to sing while I'm still alive.

  • Gnarly sound--the loud sections are all clipped and distorted. Too bad--the performance is not a bad one.

  • @OlDoinyo Try some good quality earphones or better speakers. The sound is fine on good equipment.

  • @Sqid101 the sound is clipped, not majorly but enough to be disapointing.

  • @OlDoinyo She sounds beautiful like a angel. I think that your speakers are going bad.

  • @OlDoinyo Indeed, the sound is perfect for me too.

  • @OlDoinyo

Hayley Westenra's voice tends to do that to speakers. =P

  • I'm agnostic and this song and her voice move me.

  • Fantastiche Wonderfull, a voice like an angel and singing for the God Who has made this world and will make a better one!!! Love to God

  • Thank you for sharing this! I really do love watching videos of her performing this particular song live.

  • if her voice is like this, i wonder how the angels voices sound like?....

  • wow she is hot :)

  • This is my new favourite hymn. I love the last line - 'In life, in death, Oh Lord, abide with me'.

  • Beautiful!

  • i suffer from neuropathy and this song is a comfort to me, and night when the nights

are lonely, and i am in pain. God Bless this wonderful lady.

  • Fantastic............ love this hymn.....almost made me cry

  • @jammarin8 It DID make me cry. Quite beautifully sung by a lovely young lady with a heavenly voice.

  • This song was played at my Aunts funeral today.. and i love it... whenever i hear it now, i will think of my Aunt

  • If I just listened to her voice in the middle of the note, I'd probably think it was actually an instrument. Her voice is so pure, it's water. (metaphor) :)

  • Thankyou was my dad's fave RIP love & miss u loads xxx

  • Thank you..

  • This is my favorite hymn. and she does it the best, i think :)

  • Beautiful version this. And a truly beautiful Lass too :) My favorite is the Harry Seacome version because of the power of his voice but this one is certainly up there in my affections.

Took away the pain of having made the mistake of listening to the Elton John version........brrrr, just dont

  • the writer Henry Francis Lyte did a masterpiece with this song. also it is the most butiful final exsperation ever written in song

  • this made me cry

  • @CraigS1974,

    Same here.

  • i heard this song the first time in the '70s at wembley stadium, 100.000 people singing...i was lucky to have that experience a few more times and my eyes welled up everytime...

  • i have heard this song the first time at a fa cup final at wembley stadium in the '70s, 100.000 people singing, followed by the british national anthem...... i was lucky enough to have that experience a few more times and my eyes were wet everytime....

  • my god perfection, truly the saddest and most uplifting hymn ever and Hayley, well beautiful

  • Polished.

  • i can't believe she was at rugby school and i never knew i used to live in rugby lol for those who don't know rugby is the home of the invention of rugby football - william webb ellis picked up the ball and ran with it. there is a statue outside rugby school and a pub named after him i used to work in. i love this hymn btw and i love hayley too ^_^

  • one of my mums favourite

  • pure and beautiful

  • She is brilliant - what a fabulous hymn

  • Thank you for sharing this song for everybody.. I love Hayley Westenra and this hymn. She truly captures the plea and spirit of the hymn. For sure she touches us deeply and makes us a bit nearer to GOD. I can feel the Spirit of God through this interpretation. I cry, I praise God. I sing.

    Thanks

  • can listen to her over and over

  • I love this song, makes me cry like a baby, my eyes are filling up now as I write.

  • @RichXbox360 God I hate it! Every time I listen to this hymn I well up, not good for my macho image.... I'm an atheist but this hymn is brilliant, just perfect music and words.

  • @aarandir

well, you said"God I hate it!".....maybe you are not such an atheist after all...????

  • @aarandir I'm an atheist as well. You dont have to believe in God to find hymns, masses and requiems beautiful. Many are masterful creations made by geniuses. It's intensely sensitive and stunning music

  • Beatiful sinnig voice and music !!

  • i have never heard this hymn sung so beautifully

  • wonderful

  • Comment removed

  • she is beautiful, she is Godly ,her voice is great, i am in love with her. i am in tears. She is a miracle.

  • This is so beautiful, its such a shame there's no God to actually hear it.

  • @aarandir says who?

  • @aarandir whats your proof there's no god

BTW why are u on this video anyway????

  • @aarandir But what if there is. And he created the talent for this beautiful voice and the written music. along with the heavens and the earth. How great and awsome He must be! And how spectacular His heavenly kingdom must be. I sure would'nt want to miss out on being there. But to each their own.

  • Every year with out fail Hayley Westenra should sing this at the FA Cup Final!!!!!!!

  • Aaaawwww.......She made me cry......Her voice suits the song and she really brings the message and emotion across beautifully.

  • Wow. This song is simply beautiful. I was involved in the play The Elephant Man and during his death, we played this song. It was, in my opinion, the perfect song for the moment. It was very touching...

  • Sex pistols should have made a cover of this !!

  • Beautiful voice aside, she's supremely talented to be able to sing this without breaking down, it's more than I can do.

  • your voice is so great............

  • A beautiful hym sung by a beautiful lady with a beautiful voice, God bless Hayley Westenra for bringing such a warm feeling to my heart.

  • Beautiful, touching and inspiring

  • fantastic voice

  • you are beutiefull

  • Im not even bloody religious and this still sends shivers through me :)

  • Though I'm not Christian, I love this hymn. Westenra's voice brings out deep emotions and is perfect for this hymn. Absolutely superb...

  • thankyou so much for this excellent hymn my favourite

  • great song,great singer

  • Thanks for posting this squid101! A beautiful, timeless hymn sung by a beautiful young woman with a wonderful, angelic voice. Simply stunning.

  • Wow. This is one of my favorite hymns and I have to say that this rendition is absolutely spectacular. Also, this is the first time I've ever heard Hayley Westenra sing and she has such a beautifully angelic voice (I think I'm in love, haha). A more perfect pairing of singer and hymn there cannot be.

  • @24psmith

i absolutely agree. and i am not even english or british but this is a hymn for all mankind. and if you are not touched by the song and this rendition, may god help you....

  • She's no Judy Collins, but her voice is lovely

  • @floydrharper True. Hayley is better than Judy Collins.

  • Sung with such passion.... Perfectly done.... simply magnificent....

  • Sung with such passion.... Perfectly done.... simply magnificent....

  • there is no such thing as the rapture. this song is silly

  • @theno1katzman It has nothing to do with the rapture. It's about a man lying on his death bed asking God to be with him as he takes his last breath and passes from this life into the next. It's a beautiful song, both in its musicality and poetry.

  • @theno1katzman

    And yet you listened it.

  • @theno1katzman In your case you may be correct, for you there may be no Rapture. May God have mercy upon your ignorant soul!

  • What an anjelic voice she has. Beautiful and clear. BLESSED WITH THIS Blessing Rev Jack

  • What an anjelic voice she has. Beautiful and clear. BLESSED WITH THIS VOICE. bLESSING rEV jACK

  • Angelic voice, what an amazing song!!!

  • Somewhere in Heaven an angel has temporarily "lost" her voice.

  • this is my schools anthm K-N-O-C-K!!!

  • This ong always makes me cry, it reminds me of my father, he died two years ago

  • @hunnysgirl1993 im sorry to hear about your father. the hardest thing in life is losing a loved one but remember you are not alone, we are all united in happiness and our sorrows alike

  • my uncle died recently and i love this song

  • a beautiful voice, a beautiful woman.

  • Wonderful Praise of God...we have a Samoan version which is Iesu tautai mai_Lord! Abide with me!

    Marvelous and impressive!

  • My dear friends and brothers, every time I want to hear a sweet sound I put this video. Hayley has the most beautiful performance for this hymn, that it is not a easy song to sing.

    Congratulations to Hayley!

Does anybody have the score or lyrics?

Oh, please, I will be glad to receive it .

    Hugs in Christ !

    Kaytha Marcelino

  • Has Susan Boyle tryed to sing this song? She has a pretty voice too... with a little more depth to her voice range..she should try it...along with all the other good renditions...

  • It's really pretty, BUT, since I don't really know her voice and all that well...I think I hear signs of vocal fatigue, in how she doesn't carry her tone through all the words.

Maybe it's artistic interpretation, though. *shrugs*

  • @Thespian827 you obviously haven't listened to her albums.

  • Absolutely beautiful! Wow. I pray this prayer to the Lord. Thanks for posting!

  • Brilliant, Hayley's attractive and can sing like an Angel, a rare combination.

  • I want to say thank you for sharing this song with us. This song is so beautiful, and I can't believe it was made in 1847. So long ago and still so many who love this song. Music really is timeless. And I love Hayley Westenra's voice, I think she makes this song even more beautiful and gives it more meaning. It goes straight to my heart.

  • God gives peace. The world, the flesh and te devil try to take it away. Jesus IS my peace.

  • Westenra's voice is perfect for this song. I love how it's sung with minimal accompaniment and no back-up singers (like so many other versions I'ver heard). This is the most beautiful rendition of this hymn I've heard so far.

  • Cracking set of lungs :D

  • Thank you for sharing this song. I love Hayley Westenra and this hymn. She truly captures the plea and spirit of the hymn. I love this. I can feel the Spirit of God through this interpretation.

    Thanks

  • @10448315 The plea! Precisely. It transcends vocals in such a way that evokes--all pretension aside--the concept of calling out to God with all your heart, with the fullest extent of talent He has blessed you with in life, "Please...don't forget me. Please take me There, where pain is eradicated and joy is constant." In Jesus' name. Amen. For all of us.

  • Beautiful!!!

  • Ótimo vídeo, Ótima canção!!! Hayley Westenra possui uma voz esplêndida. Um anjo entre nós. Obrigado pela oportunidade de ver isto. BRASIL.

  • Beautiful Girl... Beautiful song XXXXXX

  • It saddens me when I hear such sweet melodious hymns, but even more opening my eyes to search for the truth that was hidden from us. We are so conditioned that we close off our ears to the ugliness done to humanity, by saving sinners. My partner passed Jan 27, 2007, we told each other two yrs. before whomever went first would let the other know what is goning on Over/There. My sweetie did not let me down. I was led to use the PC, +My blinders now off, We have been turned into sheep. Wake-Up:)

  • Nancy, please help me understand what you are saying! Am I to understand that your "partner" passed and used the internet to reveal to you the final disposition of his (or her) spirit? And that the input you gleaned from that medium suggests that the 92% of people who do believe in God are wrong? Nancy, if a dinner plate got up and spoke this to us it still wouldn't be accepted but it would carry more weight than something as easily manipulated by man as the internet! Can you share your story?

  • nancy12 : Questions for you : Did you ever find the hidden truth? What then should we do with sinners? What was the message from your partner? What have the sheep been following? To what should we wake up?

It is never easy to lose a loved one. The best info. I know is found in "Life in the World Unseen." Download free from the internet.

  • Wow!! She is Has Got A great Voice :)

Reminds me of my auntie :( :( R,I.P xxxx

  • TonyForsyth those comments are usually the truth are there not though? No legacy is so rich as honesty.

    Bill Shakey.

  • An old favourite hymn beautifully sung! TY!

  • key change is too much. but she might have got away with it if she was a slosher.

  • Her spirit is truly risen above. Her voice is gentle yet strong.Gods gift is being used as it should be, by an Angel. Blessings Rev jack

  • W-A-A-Y too much background!
