my grandfather knew two of the men who went down on the fitz, took him to the shipwreck museum at whitefish bay, first and only time I've ever seen him cry. we where standing on the shore line in the lake and looking off in the general direction of where she sank and a steam ship came in and fog horned a salute, very touching
My uncle was the relief skipper on her ,it was his trip off when she went down,he was then commission into the Canadian Navy ,the youngest officer ever ,where he was first mate on the Quest 172 out of Halifax for 33 years .
