Wow, wow, wow!!! This is sheer magic---just seeing Judy, Frank, and Dean together on a stage. I am so grateful for Youtube. Without Youtube this music video would be lost. Does anyone know anyway to see the whole special, without interruptions?
@SoutherCaliforniaGuy This special has been on dvd. It may be out of print, but there are probably copies available on ebay or Amazon. I'd do a search for all three of the singers together.
for all you young people being subjected to the music of today you cant even compare that was music .the music i shouldnt even call music we should call it nursery rymes....its garbage
People don't seem to realize they are listening to the best songs of those times, before you spout how we need to go back to these times. Which i must admit were swinging. I'm just here to say this music is wonderful, but the grass is never greener. It's all dirt and you're the seed.
Frank had his dark side but he was always there for Judy. She was broke more than once and even was sued at her lowest point. Frank helped her out. When she died there was no money and he paid for her funeral and to fly in the most important people. He like many of us loved Judy, knew her pain and honoured her remarkable and unique talent. There are no performers like this anymore and certainly none who stand by each other. Great clip... Thank you.
@wseabuck True, Judy is more audible in this clip. There's a reason, however. The key was set for Judy's vocal range not the guys. They had to sing in a lower register and therefore couldn't belt it out.
Years ago men were debonair and women were classy, now we're stuck with the likes of "Lady" Gaga, Justin Beiber, Miley Cyrus, Kanye West, and all that trash. It's pathetic what the past few generations have turned our culture into... and I'm only 27.
how did this music ever die out into this disgusting music we have today, i mean bring this back! i dont listen to modern music and im 15 i listen to judy garland, frank sinatra, dean martin, barbara streisand.
Why oh why did Judy have to leave this earth such a tormented soul? If only she knew what a lasting effect she has on American culture... I suppose I was just born in the wrong decade.
I am 58..I was a little too young to really enjoy this wonderful music til later..It is wonderful hearing Judy Garland sing..you can tell she is exactly where is was happiest ..performing..
@ShdwProductions Lol I was thinking the same thing. I so wish there were still class acts up to their caliber these days though. We totally missed out.
@ShdwProductions I have a feeling they didn't spend a lot of time in rehearsal, thus the lack of precision in the steps. I love them all, especially Frank and Judy, but Martin and Garland probably didn't want to work that hard rehearsing. Don't know if Sinatra was a hard worker or not. Judy in her prime could easily handle the footwork.
@TomYpsilanti I've read in a couple of accounts that Sinatra disliked rehearsing. It shows here in my opinion, his mucking up the steps twice. Seemed to me that Garland and Martin do a pretty good job of keeping up.

@Virtuosic1 You're kinda funny....kinda....but seriously, where did you get the info that Dean and Frank were "devout, lifelong alcoholics"....from what I read Dean just played the part and Frank battled depression.
@ultraroadmap Nope. They weren't pretending. Frank could drink just about anybody under the table at Toots Shors, and Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis, was more of a trio than a duo. Jerry Lewis & Dean Martin & Dean's close friend Jack Daniels.
What a classic ! i am making a playlist - S.A.M. it stands for Sweet American Music and it is a compilation of songs that celebrate America, Americana and the country's cultural heritage - this song is most definitely on it. !
@SaintSatanX Make that 49, thank you very much, and I don't feel anything like a dick, though I have a pass-around party sized cock and a half right here in my pantaloons!
Omg I thought it was just me. I'm a 90s child and to be honest, excluding all the technology, i hate the era I'm living in. I love all the classic music.
@biggiesmaus@FilmBuffClassic It means A LOT that FilmBuffClassic is 17! It means that this music / style can reach across the generations. It means that this stuff really was that good! And it means that FilmBuffClassic has great taste!
This is a wonderful video, thank you for sharing! I like how they kept it simple and not outdo each other with their voices. Frank and Dean let Judy's voice take center stage while holding their own.
Nice to see so many positive statements. I am lucky enough to have lived through the 40's, 50's and 60's and have heard or seen these great performers. The children of today do not know what they are missing. There were many, many more but these were among the best. I salute those of you that are young for your comments.
Notice there isn't any glitz or glam behind them or around them while they sing. Their combined voices are the show. Today everything is fast or faster, loud or louder. I'm a #1 fan of rock music, but there is just something about hearing voices blend together to make music that makes my heart sing. There is no need for anything else to make this one of the best videos I've seen in a long time! Simple is better.
@Gentry1970 You're so right... one of the things i absolutely ADORE about these old performances is that the artists did really just relied on themselves rather than on a bunch of 'fireworks" around them... these WERE the good old days =)
@Gentry1970 I agree whole-heartedly. I too have always loved rock. AC/DC was one of my all time favorites. Yet, I have always been drawn to the great voices. These three needed no extraneous trappings, they just opened their mouths and excitement streamed forth in song. I must say, however, that Judy had so much power in her voice she was on the verge of overpowering the other two throughout the whole song. That being said, this is as fine a performance as I have ever seen.
what a terrific trio! this music instantly takes you back to that wonderful era. there is a new band that is doing that. frank, dean, sammy -- rolled up into one amazing vocalist and band. ck them out.
In fact, if 90% of the music back in the days was good, now only 1% is. I miss good music. Music nowadays is not even about creativity, how to make people laugh or cry or feel what you want to say. Before, back in the good ol' days, we had poetry, now we only have rhymes. And we all know that poetry is not only about rhyming....(plus repeating sentences like 30 times in a song)
Oh, man... All 3 of them represented the best of American kick-ass talent. Big singers. Big personalities. BIG superstars. This trio is like some shocking happenstance. Not one--not ONE--"star" today could wipe their boots.
Hollywood was a harsh mistress, esp.then: Garland happened to be very on top when this was filmed 1961-62 (5 Grammys, No. 1 album of the year, Oscar nom, huge ratings for her TV specials). Then Judy wilted & Frank came back, then Dean. On and on.
@parkerstage I wouldn't call Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin "has beens", but I agree with you that Judy Garland outsings the both of them put together. She was in incredible voice here!
whoever thumbed this down, a person is going to brreak into your house tonight and cut your body oarts off piece by piexe while you listen to this song, great song btw :)

On and on.
Fighters All. Class.

I think non-americans appreciate this type of music more than americans do, even though in truth it is what should define american culture.

@parkerstage I wouldn't call Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin "has beens", but I agree with you that Judy Garland outsings the both of them put together. She was in incredible voice here!
