@minimullen Go see your GI doc and your surgeon immediately. A hernia stitching coming undone can be repaired and a fundiplocation wrap undoing itself, while rare, can be fixed as well. This is why I've asked my surgeon if they're reinforcing the stitching for my wrap and hernia (my surgeon uses a mesh to reinforce the wrap stitching as well as stitching through the esophagus to prevent any wrap sliding). I'll be scheduling my fundiplocation surgery after a second surgical opinion consult.
oo nga eh ako din 2 yrs n suffer sa sakit na acid reflux...dighay ng dighay hirap huminga,,,minsan sa neck ko parng ngalay ang hirap tlga pag may ganito
i've been suffering this shit for 2 damn years! I got baretts esophagus :( yes i've had the treatment at 2:22 I can't even eat a grain of rice T_T what i eat is small portions of food like noodles, drink milk, well I'm quite recovering but i got a cold this tuesday and at the next day, i was coughing badly! At the next day it gets worse! especially when im lying down and the back of my eyes feel quite painful. then i discovered i was suffering from sinusitis! that GERD was the reason!ihatemylife
im 19 and just got acid reflux for almost 3 months and im on proton pump inhibitors. it seems to help a bit but i dont get heart burn just pressure around my stomach. iiv been for x rays twice and blood work and an edoscopy test and everything came out fine but the endoscopy did find acid relfux and no hernia or stomach ulcer so my doc just threw another 3 months of meds to help my stomach lining. this really ruins life and i wish there was a cure for this. i hope it gets better
I planned to had this surgery, but afraid the side effect like dumping food on some case, in here Indonesia the doctor not so good, but i think i can afford only domestic operation. Should i take it or leave it?
I had this surgery 2 years ago and unfortunately it didn't work for me. The reflux did ease off a little about a year after the surgery but now it's back and it's getting worse and worse. I´m on PPIs again and I just cant understande what happened. My endocopy shows the valve is competent. How come it's competent if i still have this fucking reflux! I´m so sad about all this, the doc says i have to undergo manometry and 24hour phmetry to see if we can find out why the surgery didnt work.
@rodml hey mate, check up a bacteria on the net called h.pylori, it causes exactly the same symptoms, the good thing is it can be killed with a certain 2 antibiotics or natural remmedies like mastic gum and matula herbal tea, could be worth a try
@metalkrush77 obviously there will be some scaring, mine was laproscopic so five small cuts. The other route is an eight inch cut down the middle. Coming out of the anesthetic it felt like someone kicked me in the gut about a dozen times but when the pain meds take I felt ok. I'm on day 9 and my staple sutures are out and the only discomfort i have have is any stretching in the stomach area.
Laproscopically, the scarring is not that bad and they fade away with time. 4 months down the track some of mine are fading pretty well. Open surgery will result in a longer more noticeable scar. The abdominal area is tender after surgery, and you will likely get twinges and things as scar tissues and sutures settle down. What will really hurt.. is your shoulders right after surgery if they inflate you with CO2. That was very noticeable... but after 3 days it was no longer.
Just had my GERD surgery, suffered for bout 14 years with it before it was finally diagnosed. Had my operation one week ago and so far so good. On a minced diet for three weeks, no coffee, no pop, but no heart burn : ) suggest this to any healthy candidates, did the whole meds thing, expensive and it sucks.
The only medication I can recommend was Pariet. That stuff really works, but it's a daily pill hassle. I found it lasted about 24 hours (or just under) at 20mg. Then the symptoms return. There is a delay reaction if you take the next one, it does not seem to have an immediate effect, so important not to miss a dose. I no longer have to take meds after surgery.
I feel great had no reflux for over a year now. The only issue is that when I drink Carbonated drinks I have a lot of bloading. The bad side effect is lot of gas.
I have had GERD for a long time and it feels like I am having a heart attack. I went to the ER at least four times because of it. And I cant breath sometimes and I have read that it can cause Asthma symptoms. And that cause a panic attack has anyone felt the same way?
@alliefaye322 Ya I am going to the doctor this week but I really want it to go away. I have had this since 2003 it has messed up my life alot and it only has gotten worse. And I take meds too. I am going to push the surgery i think.
@Steve123140 Don't leave it, get it done. Pretty sure that I lived with it for about 14 years, and it only got worse over time. DYODD, make sure your doc and hospital are up to scratch.
One more thing............. Has anyone had back pain from the GERD????? Like inbetween the shoulder blades???? Need this answered, because befor my lap nissen 4 weeks ago i had real bad back pain now its very little, for the love of god i pray it never returns, but please let me know..... ty for your help...iv just gone through so much .......
@1993foxyroxy Yep, I used to get pain directly under my right shoulder blade. This was apparently because of the stomach. I have never had a recurrence of that. Normally it is under the shoulder blade than in the middle of the blades, but I guess anything is possible depending on how your nervous system is laid out.
SOMEONE ANSWER QUESTION FOR ME......... Who ever had the open surgery .... I just had my open fundo 4 weeks ago, How long was your recovery time and please tell me everything you felt after surgery please... I feel this recovery is slow, and always feel like i have a heavy gut, alot of air in my belly, plus Im so tired, also when i get up from sitting i feel sick, BUT i am so glad i did this surgery, i have maybe alittle GERD still but doc said its early & i may have alittle, but will go away...
Also stay off the pain meds as fast as you can!!!! No need to become dependent, plus most of us were on meds before surgery to stop the pain and ill tell you what... having a withdrawal 3 weeks after surgery as you are still recovering is a b!t@$ really. not only are you in pain from surgery but then the full pain comes back 10 times worse, so stay off the pain meds as fast as you can, it will be hard but have strength in yourself......
Allot of pressure in abdomen and back & shoulder blade it eventually goes away..... just try to stay strong i had my 4 years ago and i am SOOOOOO Glad I'm now off my acid reflux medicine, Its completely gone!
I can now run with out the pain but it take a while to recover but DEFINITLY woth it in the end!!
@1993foxyroxy I felt awful after surgery, like a decrepit old man, weak as anything. After a few weeks I came right. After a while I felt great! I was back on solid food in 1 week, eased myself into it. Just avoid dry rice or dry potato as they can aggravate things early on...
@littleflowwer its only the 1st month or few weeks you cant handle the food so ur on a liquid diet like soup but im not sure about LPR cause i dont have that. Im not sure it can be undone since they are wrapping ur esophagus around ur stomach... so im guessing no. but it can come undone by like doing strenus activities the couple months u get it. i couldnt do pe the 1st semester of school. I would check with ur specialist to see if the LPR would be affected because it is a stomach surgery...
What about for LPR? because you still get spasms of the larynx with LPR. but im guessing this is for GERD which is also a cause of acid from LPR? i'm confused. Also if I have a swallowing obsession/compulsion and fear of choking (which caused my LPR),...because I was swallowing wrong in the first place because of the fear of swallowing or being obsessed with it and this I think did something to cause me to have LPR (still need to have tests done)... then can I still get this???
Mine is so bad i cant even drink milk or eat eggs with reflex thinking about asking my dr about the surgery cause i have a hiatel hernia along with GERD
I need this surgery so badly! I have been on Prilosec for 5-6 years now and all It does is mask the symptoms. @mamasitamami The only down side is the recovery time & losing So much weight
My heart burn is Gone actually.
the recovery is a no solid diet for about 4 months. it just feels wierd it was hard to keep down like food and water the 1st month. i was bout 125 lbs when i got it but lost so much weight bout 40lbs but gained a healthy amount back =]
can you still throw up? can you get any acid reflux at all? what about for LPR? can the surgery be undone(I'm guessing it can since the stomach is stapled) if necessary? What about with swallowing pills does it hurt or eating or anything else? do things go down right?
I have a swallowing obsession/trauma fear and choking fear and can't swallow pills even hard to swallow sometimes and this caused me to get LPR bc I was swallowing wrong(I feel larynx spasm) and burping a lot nowtoo.
You did not talk about complications and side effects of the operation. From what I understand this operation is NOT a life time fix. Most people have to return taking their medication, and some people even feel worse after this operation.

@donmarioelking you're not the only one im 23 and i've had it for 10 years. I'm considering having the surgery. I have been miserable and felt depressed b/c of GERD but I really am hoping the surgery works
@donmarioelking I actually had it since birth i know how you feel i actually collapsed from the pain at age 8 during a soccer game. had the surgery 4 years ago and seriously Changed my life!!!! Im of the meds and everything!!! i can play sports and run w/o pain too its great!!!!

I had this surgery 8 months ago...

For some reason the surgery didn't help me. I take meds for acid reflux but it doesn't help much.I dont know whats going on?

I had this surgery half a year ago, it helped about 60 percent with my symptoms, now ALL of my symptoms are back, I think my hernia has returned.
I dont know what to do...
I have SEVERE acid reflux
severe palpitations
gas constantly trapped
and the acid gives me neck pain.
What do you do if the hernia comes back. I dont know where to turn.

@NotAnotherElvis Drop the fizzy drinks, they are really, really bad for you. Let them be a special treat.
Everyone knows they have a lot of sugar, but they also have a lot of sodium, this makes you thirsty afterward.
They contain carbonic acid from the carbonation, I personally believe this can annoy your normal stomach acidity.

can you still throw up? can you get any acid reflux at all? what about for LPR? can the surgery be undone(I'm guessing it can since the stomach is stapled) if necessary? What about with swallowing pills does it hurt or eating or anything else? do things go down right?
I have a swallowing obsession/trauma fear and choking fear and can't swallow pills even hard to swallow sometimes and this caused me to get LPR bc I was swallowing wrong(I feel larynx spasm) and burping a lot nowtoo.

Had mine done 5 days ago...I had to have my Gallbladder removed anyway so the Surgeon did both at the same time he did a great Job!
So far no issues except I cant eat much anymore and have to eat very slow...hope it works :) Hopefully NO MORE REFLUX!!!

This fundoplication 3D medical animation is incredible. It's so assuring to be able to see the procedure prior to surgery.

This is great animation- I love that it takes all the medical stuff and makes it much easier to understand. Nucleus Medical Media has so many great medical animations for patient education- Thanks

What an informative 3d medical animation by Nucleus Medical Art! I never thought about how fundoplication or hiatal hernia repairs were done.
