  • This song brings back tons of great memories of the band performing at the Tiki Club in Brockville.

  • awesome...even before they became the Five Man Electrical Band....go Ottawa Canada!

  • A classic...

  • This is a super song.. wow great Canadian talent!

Thanks for posting this.. and a friend for sending :))

  • If you want to be schooled on how to compose a song, listen to these young guys from Ottawa..if only the lessons were being learned today.

  • Like pacampbell2001, bits of this song ran through my memory, but I couldn't remember the title. While looking thru Canadian oldies like David Clayton Thomas with the Shays, the Paupers, Kensington Market, it showed up on your site. THANK-YOU ! Canada in the Sixties was the birth of first-class rock/ pop. I wish there was a CD pkg available with all those great bands and their hits. Sorry I didn't keep the albums. Rock on Canada!

  • Awesome! This song, along with 19 other great Five Man Electrical Band and Staccatos tracks, are available on the recent FIVE MAN ELECTRICAL BAND: THE STACCATOS AND BEYOND release on Now Sounds. All of the songs on the comp are sourced FROM THE ORIGINAL MASTER TAPES. No transfers from vinyl! Check out the CD at nowsounds.co.uk

  • I WAS LOKING FOR THIS SONG FOR THE LONGEST TIME THANKS TO YOU TUBE I 'VE GOT IT

  • Hearing this reminded me of an album than I have from before the release of this single.

It was called (something like) "A Wild Pear". On side one was The Staccatos and on side two you found The Guess Who?.

    Anyone remember that?

  • Ultimate trivia: what soft drink company had pictures of band members on the bottom of their (steel) pop cans?

The Staccaco, Guess Who (?), April Wine (?).

It was 7UP! I think it was a promo called A Groovy Pair.

    North Bay, 1968 (?)

  • Love this song, bring back a lot of fond memories, great band.

  • I hadn't thought about this song in forever, but for some reason the tune has been running around in my head for the last couple of weeks. What a lot of memories from growing up in Ottawa ! I have what I think is their first album (has a large, colourful pear on the cover) on vinyl. Anyway, great to hear the song again ... thanks for posting.

  • that lp was the wild pair with the guess who. initially the staccatos a black cover with a portrait of the group in 65 was the first lp. was CJOH channel 8 Cornwall. I recall getting channel 4 station in ottawa sometimes. i lived in montreal their new double cd is being issued this weekend.

  • You're absolutely right about the album. I got thinking about it after I posted my comment and realized I was wrong. (Blame it on ever-advancing age !) I must have the recording on a 45. Can't remember what channel CJOH was on, here again, just too many years ago. Guess what I'll be shopping for this weekend ? Take care.

  • I have a 4 song CD sampler from the new anthology.

It has "Half past Midnight" - sounds great. Plus I can remember a version of "Sit Down I Think I Love You" - the Stephen Still song. Can't recall the other 2 - CD is at my house.

  • Saw the Staccatos play a couple of times at Billings high school in Chateauguay, Quebec and i still remember the best song they did live was "See you in September" by the Happenings. They should have recorded it too! brownie

  • Timeless!

    *****

  • On July 1, 1967, the Staccatos played this song "live" for Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip at the Royal "Hullabaloo" concert at Lansdowne Park in Ottawa. We were celebrating Canada's Centennial.

  • sounds like five man electrical band

  • That's because this is what the Five Man Electrical Band originally was when this song was released about 1967.

  • Very, very nice harmony pop single by this Ottawa band--does sound like the Association or, especially Sagittarius/Millenium!

  • yohawks and squirels...any body remember

  • In highschool at the time..group of us students intervued by CJOH-TV for comments on the pending gang fight rumoured for Billings Bridge next weekend, between Squirrels and Yohawks...never happened...con job..

  • omg ... yes ! Hadn't thought about them in years ! What about the Saturday afternoon dance program on CJOH ... I think it was called Saturday Date. Ring any bells ?

  • Years ago, I won the American Graffiti album from an Ottawa radio station by correctly identifying who sang this song. Good song.

  • More than 40 years later, this remains a Canadian pop classic. Harmonies don't get much better than this.

This would've been a great song for The Association.

  • I have the Wild Pair LP signed by Burton Cummings. I personally do not like him that much, although I do prefer the early guess who over the Staccatos but they are very underrated.

  • Very underated song.

  • obviously the SIGNS were there.

  • Ugh. :-p

I love this record. The harmonies are fabulous, right up there in Beach Boys/Hollies territory.

  • Possibly the best pop single recorded by a Canadian band in the 1960's.

  • .....shoulda sold millions, world-wide.
