Now if you look at the Audi its just pure madness! And its road cars reflected this S1 and thats what made it special...
Try driving an Audi 5 banger that has some performance in mind (3B, AAN, or my favoreite the 7A) and you'll get the picture. Also keep in mind the 7A is a N/A car but my god.... at 7000 rpm it makes me wanna cry =D
I'm a quattro fan, but let;s face it, once the Peugeot 205 came on the rally scene it was all over for everybody, including Lancia. Results prove it. From what I read, Lancia's fuel tanks were under the driver's seats, which didn't help during Toivonen's crash.
@19SAS Yep, the S1 was quick, beautiful, sounded great, more hp than all, heavier than all, the only thing it didn't do was win but only one rally. The T16 and S4 did. Audi needed a mid engined car to reclaim the top. All that being said, the Audi is still my fav.

my friend u seem to 4get that the lancia only took 1st place after the leading audi stopped with engine probs and the second place t16 also stopped with engine issues..........which only really left them fighting off a cumbersome metro 6R4
The drivers use to complain all the time about how the fans would be right in the road. But if it wasnt for those crazy phuckers we wouldn't have most of the crazy pictures of the Group B cars!
its a great car with its big wings and legendery sound of 5 cylinder in line engine wich sounds like an engine under water great car but the lancia delta s4had a better engine so did the 205 t16
I disagree with your comment about the Lancia S4 and 205 T16 having a better engine. The general consensus is that Audi had the best engine in the business but was handicapped by its front engine layout. Even that had (mostly) been overcome with the redistribution of weight in the S1. It was the overall weight that was the problem that couldn't be solved.
Well... Audi retired before G.B. be banned. They said it was dangerous because they couldn't control the crouds, so... The easiest way to prevent more fatal accidents was to put an end to Group B rallying. WRC will never have the same fans number, so that will never be a problem to the FIA.
they didnt win much, because the rallyclassification group B (where it was supposed to start) was delated by the rallymanagers... so the car had no races to win; sure it would have done.
Arguably the best days of Motorsport. Even F1 was more exciting back then with opposite lock, 6 wheeled tyrells and Turbochargers!.
The Audi was a leviathan of power, Rohl once said something like "in the S1 if you have to think about what you are doing then it's already too late".
the rs200 was driven by stig blomqvist who's one of the best groupB drivers, and the same year,86, the current championship leader Toivonen had a fatal accident..so it wasnt just for the bad drivers..and dogzilla those cars were 600BHP tops but rather 450-550..far from 1500
yep 600 is usually the highest official figure..for race finish! sorry i always make the mistake of quoting official figures instead of making up things..
600 is the figure they were coming out of the factory mate. Race finish even more lol. What is so hard to grasp. With mega boosts these things could push over 1000bhp.
probably its hard to grasp that the 600hp was quoted for a racing version lol. if you know so much about cars though then be it they are way over a 1000 lol
guys... why are you always nagging what cars might be better? It is the driver that brings home the wins. A real good driver can compensate sometimes 200 hp and more... If you don't know how to drive right your technical advantage will be no advantage anymore. I myself cannot drive like a real rallye driver... but I know some, so I can say that at least I know how it is done right. And from that I can say that you can win with 200-300 hp against someone who has double hp than you.
Yes But now they don't have active differentials, now they have mechanical differentials since 2006.Which means that they can not adjust the diff, before the turn as they did by twisting a knob, now the mechanics set the differentials before the stages and its hard to change!!!
all cars in wrc must be street legal you dumbasses.subaru sux shit, still fighting over the old audi i see, audi kicks ass, they also win alot of lemans 24 hours in diesel powerd cars. so plz stfu with your bs,
WRC cars are not road legal in the United States, they're competition cars, that's why if you want to buy a Group A competition model of a WRX direct from Subaru it costs about $150,000 more than the road going version. I highly doubt you've ever even driven any Group A car let alone an Audi S1, so what makes you think you can talk about either one?
Go back to grade school i think you forgot what grammar is.
i meant "braking", simply the differentials have different settings in locking proportions when given a few inputs like acceleration % in relation with the speed of the car, or the breaking % in relation with speed giving different locking ratios from 0% to 100% lock.
first of all, that acceleration CLAIM (never proved) was done by Lancia with his S4, wich was faster than the audi.
Nobody is claiming new WRC accelerate faster than group B cars, we are saying that they handle (corner, break, shift etc) much better that they give shorter times than old grupB cars in stages and that is PROVED, some stages are the same than in the 80s and modern WRC cars do shorter times than GroupB cars.
I love Group B over WRC and i race rally too, but i dont fool myself.
A WRC has more torque than a G.B car, the suspension and tyres are a lot better, they have electronic helps and settings. Their engines are better in terms of reliability and effectiveness, BUT, in those days, they were concentrated to build real rallycars, with turbocharged and supercharged at once engines, not laboratories on wheels, piloted by microchips... That was the real magic, these were the real super-rallycars: powerful, fast, light and difficult to drive. That was the spirit.
I was too young back in the day, but I know what you mean. In my opinion they should ban all electonic helper and other crap they added in since Group B was banned.
Most Modern WRC cars use a form of traction control it's not like TC on a road car as that wouldn't work on slippery surfaces. What it does is detects a difference in wheel speeds highlighting a wheel that is spinning faster than the others (loose) and then applies the brake a little to that wheel, thus transfering some of the engine power to the other 3 wheels (grippers). It continualy montitors the differences in real time and diverts the power accordingly. Hence improved grip

the rs200 was driven by stig blomqvist who's one of the best groupB drivers, and the same year,86, the current championship leader Toivonen had a fatal accident..so it wasnt just for the bad drivers..and dogzilla those cars were 600BHP tops but rather 450-550..far from 1500
thiz555 3 years ago
Some of the latest ones had 600bhp in factory finish, race finish... you can add 200bhp to that.
2007TypeR 2 years ago
yep 600 is usually the highest official figure..for race finish! sorry i always make the mistake of quoting official figures instead of making up things..
thiz555 2 years ago
600 is the figure they were coming out of the factory mate. Race finish even more lol. What is so hard to grasp. With mega boosts these things could push over 1000bhp.
2007TypeR 2 years ago
probably its hard to grasp that the 600hp was quoted for a racing version lol. if you know so much about cars though then be it they are way over a 1000 lol

1000 hp from a 2.1 liter

cant compare rally to f1 ;)
btw f1 sounds horrible compared to a car like the s1

guys... why are you always nagging what cars might be better? It is the driver that brings home the wins. A real good driver can compensate sometimes 200 hp and more... If you don't know how to drive right your technical advantage will be no advantage anymore. I myself cannot drive like a real rallye driver... but I know some, so I can say that at least I know how it is done right. And from that I can say that you can win with 200-300 hp against someone who has double hp than you.

Yes But now they don't have active differentials, now they have mechanical differentials since 2006.Which means that they can not adjust the diff, before the turn as they did by twisting a knob, now the mechanics set the differentials before the stages and its hard to change!!!

all cars in wrc must be street legal you dumbasses.subaru sux shit, still fighting over the old audi i see, audi kicks ass, they also win alot of lemans 24 hours in diesel powerd cars. so plz stfu with your bs,
karpatza 3 years ago
WRC cars are not road legal in the United States, they're competition cars, that's why if you want to buy a Group A competition model of a WRX direct from Subaru it costs about $150,000 more than the road going version. I highly doubt you've ever even driven any Group A car let alone an Audi S1, so what makes you think you can talk about either one?
Go back to grade school i think you forgot what grammar is.

Still hydraulic centre diff with mechanical front and rear.

i meant "braking", simply the differentials have different settings in locking proportions when given a few inputs like acceleration % in relation with the speed of the car, or the breaking % in relation with speed giving different locking ratios from 0% to 100% lock.
baalshin 3 years ago
WRC cars dont have any kind of electronic traction control dumbass, its their active diferentials and locking, not "breaking" any tires -_-
and a modern WRC car would beat a Group B, except maybe in a very open tarmac stage.
baalshin 3 years ago
not one modern rally car ,would beat the audi, not one try all you want
,0-60=2.5 secs on dirt please you nub
karpatza 3 years ago 2
first of all, that acceleration CLAIM (never proved) was done by Lancia with his S4, wich was faster than the audi.
I love Group B over WRC and i race rally too, but i dont fool myself.
baalshin 3 years ago
