One time i tried to raise an ant but all i did was get a group of ants without the queen and then pile up some dirt with leaves and in a few days i look at them and i see this pregnant ant(bcuz its ass looked big)and it was hanging on this stick and it fell then all the babies died :(
I'm sorry, I made a mistake. I forgot you called them wood ants. They are different species, that's is a carpenter ant, Camponotus. The other "wood ant" is called Formica rufa.
I currently have 2 carpenter ant queens. 1 Of them has a very large larvae a few other larvae and some eggs, the other queen mostly has eggs. I live in Canada, and my queens have a black head, rusty red thorax and a black abdomen (Camponotus Vicinus).
Is there a difference between wood ants and carpenter, because I heard carpenter ants live in wood, but I saw a wood ant nest near this queen when I found her and they lived in the ground, plus aren't carpenter ants black, my queen is black and red.

A tub of sand would work ok, but make sure it's moist.

iv got a ant farm and iv got 6 queens and as a result a have to meny ants and they cant all fit in the ant farm so they all migrated draws

there's no specific date or time, it's random. I'm only talking about ants. Just lately, there was a flight and i found two queens.

they're probably "fly ants" then, as "red" ants can get up to a dark color.

Errr...wood ants and carpenter ants are the same. You should do some more research, and carpenter ants are many different colors.
Technically if its camponotus its called a carpenter ant. Most people have the black carpenter ant (camponotus pennsylvanicus)

Yes thats definalty a carpenter ant, Camponotus species. It's obvious it's not a fire ant queen, as they are only 7mm.
