Love the quote about the Haida who live "off the coast of Alaska" yeah...uh...in...uh, you know...Canada. Do you have to be THAT insular that you can't name other countries?
Also...hey...how come we can't see their faces and they're always wearing those big hats???
@Autostade67 Controversially, they also removed any evidence that this movie was filmed in Czechoslovakia! Each scene where you can't see their faces was shot in New York with different actors.
Fairly well done movie. Not great but not bad either. One thing that ceases to amaze me is how deep people dig their oars into the water (just the blade goes). Good premise for a movie and quite informative as well. Thanks to the Czech Natural History Museum and thanks to you for uploading it.
this is such a great fantasy movie!! i still have this on VHS. too bad it hasn't been released on DVD yet. if it gets released on DVD, hopefully it will be remastered
Thanks big time for posting this movie. I remember watching it at the theatre as a Saturday matinee back in the 1960's. Its driven me nuts for years trying to remember the title of it.
I was 10 when I saw this in a nyc-area theater and all these years I never forgot the parts involving the nyc museum of natural history because that museum was such a marvelous, mysterious old place for me to go as a kid. So much for opinions on editing!
... The bird at 0:46:55 that thing used to terrify me as a child. I remember when i first saw this i was about 4 or 5 and I ran out Screaming when i saw that thing. O_O
i remember seeing this as a kid in the theater but had not remembered it until finding this. IMDb said it was released in '55, but i had to see it some time between '66 - '68. Brings back a memory of a good time. Anyone know when it was released in the States?
@RevRonL It was released in 1955 in Czechoslovakia titled "Cesta do pravěku" which is also posted on my Youtube page. The dubbed version was released in the United States in 1967
Wow! This really brings back memories from my childhood. They used to show this in segments on a local children's show called "Garfield Goose and Friends" hosted by the late Frazier Thomas on WGN TV Channel 9 Chicago. So great seeing this again in full, & without segments LOL
@KillerB62 For sure! I remember rushing home many times to catch this, as I loved monster and dinosaur flicks, but it seemed I would usually miss the dinosaur segments. Seemed like Frazier would show about 3min. of them floating on the boat, then a cool preview for next time with a glimpse of a dino, and then I would miss it! AArrgghh. :)
I don't really mind about the end, but american beginnig is crap. Original is much better. But it's amazing movie anyway. Don't understand why americans changed the backgrounds of the film. So it looks more american probably. But i don't like it. There is an original version on youtube with English subtitles. Check it.
@MajorBilly I didn't say anything about children's films. You want me to prove a claim that I never made. I suggest you read my original comment again.
@DVDluvr123 So you can't name 3 foreign-language children's films shown in American theatres. Is that because American cinemas would not have shown them?
@MajorBilly You are making the same mistake as before. I never said anything about children's films. You are again asking me to prove a claim that I never made. Read my original comment.
@MajorBilly You are wrong again. Your original post don't say anything about requirements for “children's films” in American theaters. You just “it” as in this specific movie.
@MajorBilly Your original comment was “Probably American cinemas would not have shown it without the Americanized beginning.” You were talking about what you thought was a requirement for a film made in an another country to be shown in America. And if you have any proof that American theaters require children's movies to be made in America, then please post your proof here.
Thanks for the upload! I always looked forward to the time of year when this was played on Garfield Goose. It's fun to see how much our knowledge has changed over the last 50 years!
I was always hoping Spielberg would make a modern remake of this someday! This was originally shown in Chicago on WGN's Garfield Goose with additional New York footage and split up with installments. It was a big deal in the 1960's.
Thank you so much for posting. I watched these installments on Family Classics/Garfield as a toddler and never saw the ending. I loved the series, thought it was absolutely realistic and now enjoy how much they did with so little production ability. Informative, funny and earnest. A great film that I've so enjoyed
Loved this movie as a kid!
