  • looool brilliant lol. Can I get a copy too pweeaase. My naija man would crack up when he hears this lol.

  • There no such thing as Nigerian Jollof Rice, Jollof Rice originated from the Senegambia region ( from the Wolof people of Senegal- according to the history and data Nigerian copy this style of cooking with much less success in ingredients, taste and sophistication.

  • @Gluluman

Olodo means idiot. Jo olodo, means like an idiot. Instead of saying “jo olodo”, I could say “jolodo”.

Depending where you are in Nigeria, you might see or hear, “Jeolof”, “jewolof”, “Jelof”, “joolof”, “jowolof”, “j’ollof”.

“Je olof”/ “jo olof” means eat/cook like Oolof, i.e in one pot.

  • @Gluluman

The Chinese prepare a variety of rice dishes, but they also prepare Singapore style rice. What you are saying is equivalent to badmouthing/accusing the Chinese for preparing Singapore rice, even though they call it Singapore style rice.

Does that seem a smart thing to do?

  • @Gluluman

The history of this dish is sensitive. In Africa at times people have plenty of food, other times they don’t. Some areas there is plenty of food in other areas food is scarce, which is why they may prepare a dish like this.

I live in a city and my grandparents live in a village. When I visit my grandparents, en route places sell, Jollof, J’olof, Jelof. When in my grandparents village, I am asked will I “Je wolof”?

J’ ollof/je wolof/je lof is not only a noun, but can be an adverb.

  • @Gluluman

If you undertsood the history, you wouldn't make a fuss of the ingredients.

    Benachin usually has multiple ingredients.

A traditional Naija version has little or no extra ingredients, I guess because there is plentiful supply of other foods.

This is why on other videos, people are expressing surprise at seeing extra ingredients.

  • @Gluluman

African history is rarely written down on paper, especially in the past.

Understanding the languages can help, can be the only way to understand some history.

Oloshi, olodo, tim ba fo e l'eti woma bo n'Ibadan.

  • Accordingly the peanut sauce stew comes from the Dogon region and the Bambara people of Mali. Nigerian like most Africans eat a paste knows as fufu, mixture of “Yukka” roots with palm oil rat meat, or cow hide. Wile most east Africans from kenya to Tanzania Mozambique, Swahili and Luau etc.. typically consume corn and by product of corns.

  • Wollof are the Jollof people of Gambia and Senegal. Jollof Rice is the basic food of Jollof peolpe of Senegal and Gambia. I think it was introduced in Ghana and Nigeria by Traders in the Jollof empire. It call Benachin in Gambia. meaning one dish. Long live africa . Down with Gambia primitive Dictator who recently killed our west African Bros

  • lmaoooo

  • For the sake of argument, I'm Nigerian, and jollof rice is cooked all over West Africa, but it does not originate from Ghana or Nigeria, it began with the Wolof tribe who are now in the area of Senegal and Gambia.

  • hey...i'm from liberia and i know that jollof originated from ghana....but it spread out...thats all

  • @fomab THANKS!!! Some people just don't want to learn. Even on nigerian/ghanaian websites, they clearly state that jollof rice is from Senegal! I don't know why people can't accept it. It is like telling people that eating plantain comes from Gambia or Senegal when we know that it doesn't grow there. It's a nigerian/ghanaian version of the chebu jenn or chebu yapp. Jolof was an ex senegalese empire and wolof = an ethnic group living in Senegambia + a senegalese official language besides french.

  • who wan kill me?lol..I'm on d cabbage soup diet, seeing dis picture is torture 2 ma soul...ABEG!
