To be honest, Rachel was is in an Owl Morph when David attacked her, and David does know that Rachel also Morphed the Bald Eagle. If Rachel had two Bird Of Prey Morphs being shown to David, then surely David would realize that the Animorphs had ignored the "Animorph Law" themselves, and that there was a possibility another member of the group had a Red-Tailed Hawk Morph. What would you say to that poparena, are the Animorphs hypocrites?
Marco on the other hand is quite cynical, as such I think he unconciously realizes the potential for disaster that could come from the David situation, which leads to his animosity towords David. That combined with the fact that he himself realizes that on the surface there is no real reason for him to dislike him causes Marco's confusion about his own feelings.
Cassie being an idealist, looks for the good in people. As such during the David situation she sees the potential good that can come out of the situation, not really noticing the potential for disaster. Later when David goes full Wacko obviously the rose-colored glasses come off, and she can get serious. To be continued.
One thing I would like to point out about the Marco-David realtionship. When I first read book 20. I felt the same thing as you. That Marco's animosity toward David seemed kinda weird. After reading the WHOLE trilogy on the other hand I got another feel for it. Throughout the series Cassie is constantly refered to as the one who understands people, which makes sense given her personality. But when you stop to think about it Cassie and Marco BOTH understand people just in DIFFERENT ways. TBC...
I don't wanna spam all your vids with disagreeing comments. I agree wholeheartedly with your analysis of the Animorphs' wishy-washy morality. It's annoying, but an accurate representation of humans in general, especially teenagers.
BUT!
David was evil from the start. From the beginning he was self-centered, self-righteous, and greedy, wanting to use his powers to make HIS life better. His focus was on himself, not the planet. David was always the anti-Animorph.
i cant wait to see the episode guide but its really diffrent from the books. and that honestly caught me off graud but also another thing that sucks is the series just stoped.
"Power Rangers! Without the Happy Endings." Ha Ha I love that line.
*Punches You* First Rule of Animorph Fandom, we do not talk about the TV Show. Second Rule of Animorph Fandom, we do NOT TALK ABOUT THE TV SHOW. *Punches You* Just kidding, looking forward to it.
Your overall analysis was excellent. The David Trilogy certainly was a centerpiece and an interesting follow-up adjacent to #19. Great Work.
I love how the conclusion to the whole David trilogy is him being exiled to a resourceless rock island off the coast trapped as a rat. It would have been far more humane to just kill the fucking guy. Idk it just always creeped me out, the idea that our "heroes" were such wimps that they willingly inflicted such a torturous sentance on someone not because he genuinely deserved death but because they wussed out about killing HIM in particular. I know the intended purpose but still...creepy lol
Bahahaha! TV show review will be epic! XD Although to be fair, I did re-watch it at one point, and you know, when you watch it EXPECTING it to be bad, you can actually get some enjoyement out of it. Mostly lols at how bad it is, but you pick up more of the subtle stuff they got right.
Of course, none of that can fix the months I had to spend being pestered by my friends who watched the show and didn't read the books, and who kept asking me "Did they figure out the disk in the book yet?"
What Animorphs taught me when i was a kid was that to have happiness freedom and peace there will always be fighting and persecution of others to gain this and that people will always act this way and i still believe this
People should just cut the tv show some slack. It was made in the good old 90s, so yeah, effects like that r going to be bad! I liked the show, but if u don't, don't watch the reviews. Just sayin.
@techmax791 If I recall the show was made from the same people who made Goosebumps (or some other Canadian studio), which does explain a lot of it's more blase effects.
I'll have to doublecheck n that red-tail hit-and-run. I really thought it was night, David only keeping up with Rachel via streetlamps. Otherwise I really like your idea of stretching David's "arc" over several books to tease the readers a bit. I still like what we got, but not I really would have wanted to see that.
Doesn't the TV show have people being infested via cell phone and Ax helpless against humans with lassos? On the other hand, they also had the wonder of Jake cheerfully chowing down on escargot to creep out Tom's Yeerk and Visser Three so it wasn't ALL bad. And I did like the extended Jake-calls-Tom scene even if it was a horrible security risk (though not as bad as talking about Yeerks in the school cafeteria).
@ghoulia21 I guess my problem is that they made such wild, incredible departures from the books, for seemingly no reason. Budget perhaps? Idk, but a dark and edgy, effects-heavy sci-fi show about aliens and kids turning into animal is so far beyond the scope of a Nickelodeon kid's cartoon (Alex Mack doesn't count!). It was just far too obvious a cheap ploy to milk the series quickly. Would have been better as an animated series? Either way I do have a man-crush on Shawn Ashmore.
@bw13187 i think it would have been epicness if they made a cartoon. they have horrible cgi cause when i first saw an andalite i was like what the frak...
did you know that they are republicating the books! but its not that good because the new people dont even look like the original guys at all! i mean, jake isnt even that attractive any more!
ive only ever seen Shaun's brother on smallville this year and i was like "MUM! I JUST SAW THE GUY WHO PLAYS JAKE FROM ANIMORPHS' BROTHER ON TV!!!
I started an Animorph group some time ago on Facebook. It currently has nearly 300 people in it and I'm totally pushing your vids :)... btw, have you thought about releasing a DVD of all these vids when you finish the reviews? It'd be an awesome set and I'd totally buy one!
i am not gonna lie but even though the tv show was no pete and pete it still was a decent live action show for nickelodeon compared what they would do post 1998(which is where i got off watching the station and became a massive music and moderate anime junkie), though however the books will always have more depth and come to think of it the show just comes off like we are watching fucking manimal
Applegate was asked shortly after this if she'd consider doing a five book story arc, and she replied that this three book story stretched her about as far as she could go. It took ghostwriters to make the final year-long arc work.
One question regarding Tobias saving Rachel from David. Did David get a good look at him? If so then yeah I agree he should have pieced it together, though Tobias did attack from behind. Is it just me or has Visser Three seemed to have gone down in cunning and intellect since the Andalite/HB chronicles? I also think you're right about how it shouldn't have been a trilogy, the short time span may have made KAA feel forced into hastening his downfall.
Wow, I hadn't realized Hork-Bajir Chronicles came this early on. Cool. Although I'm waiting with bated breath for #23, can't wait to see what you do with it.
I absolutely adore the David trilogy. I think it's on the same plane as The One With Aftran. The effect of the whole narrative is to hold a mirror up to the Animorphs. Every evil thing David does is held opposite to a ruthless, amoral, cowardly, or foolish thing our beloved heroes do. He steals after Tobias steals. He almost defects after he is forced into a bloody war. He tries to kill the Animorphs, and then Rachel holds a fork in his ear and threatens his family. Saddler? Rat.
10 beers were finished while watching this trilogy. Thank you kind sir,

Another Power Rangers comparision is that Rachel's pre-war hobbies of gymnastics, shopping and fashion are a ripoff of Kimberly's from Power Rangers.

@bw13187 actually, it wasn't that bad. there were some episodes that they screwed up bigtime but i think it was pretty good.
id give most of the episodes about 7 and a half/10 but the shitty episodes 3/10.
Christopher Ralph is cute.
