One more question... About audio interfaces. Are they necessery to play with superior? I mean, is there any other way to plug your module to your pc? Thanks :)
Yes you will need an audio interface with an ASIO audiodriver. When you hit the drum you want the sound to come out of the speakers instantly, but with your standard audio/sound card the sound will take up to two seconds to reach the speakers! ASIO drivers deliver sound within milliseconds depending on your computer specs.
And the computer also needs midi input either from a midi/usb adapter ( Edirol UM-1G) or the midi input on your audio interface.
i really liked this video. nice playing too. thanks for showing the sounds. i want to use that programm too! but im not sure if it will workout the way i wanna do it. i want to trigger all the drums but still record the cymbals with overheads. do you think that could work? i will replace the heads for mesheads of course. but i might still kinda tricky.
Eh.. You mean the sound of the toms in the software I`m using? I can fiddle with eq anyday, but the purpose here was to show the sound from the software :-)
They are Roland cymbals. 150$ for he crash, 420$ for the ride, and 546$ for the hi-hat. The prices are converted from norwegian kroner to american $...
Bruker som i tittelen her TD-9 modul. Lydkort som det står i videoen her er Audio Kontrol 1 fra Native Instruments. Triggere fra Roland. TD-3 fungerer også veldig bra til dette :-)
Hahah :-) Actually, thats was a hick up from the software.. I leave my laptop on 24hours, and once a week the toontrack solo software gets frustrated by this. It might be a RAM issue also (cheap RAM). So NO double triggering :-)
you shouldn't leave laptops on all day...put it on sleep at least...ur chipset could get fried if you don't have adequately cooled air flowing thru it...happened to my previous one...but i learned not to do that anymore...hehe...but yea...do you turn off ur WiFi for ur laptop when you play? and how much RAM do you have in ur comp..i hear it's good to have 3+ GB RAM to get it running awesome...which toontrack solo version do you use?
thanks for the prompt response...hehe...just curious of what system you were using...it'd be nice if Roland came out with a better TMC module with more inputs and USB powered...anyways...have a nice weekend urself brosef
man that audio kontrol 1 is AWESOME...mad clear sounds and can't notice ANY latency...prob the best portable audio int. out right now huh? just got the firebox for 50 beans used and it freakin' rocks too...just that the mic preamps are weaksauce...how're the inputs on the NI device? and is that thing buspowered? or run on ac adapter as well?...trying to lessen my need for cables on the road...hehe..and yea...so so emotional with feelings and such in the beginning of the vid man...lol...you ROCK!
The Audio Kontrol is bus powered only, so no more clumsy adaptors cluttering things up :-)
Havent really tried out the pre-amps. I usually use my Universal Audio LA-610se when tracking vocals, and bass/guitars. Also the Aphex 207D is really good sounding.
i've tried roland. definitely are better cuz they work great rite outta the box w/o adjusting parameters. however i thought the trigger io was crap too. dbl triggering, crstlk cause note dropouts, but after fidgeting with different parameters for a couple of days i've gotten it to work fairly well. i've been giving tips to other fellow io users and have been getting good results. Plus, i got my trigger io for $100 plus a new rt-10s and rt-10k & cables incl. free with the module thru ebay. Score!
Hey, just wanted to say i've enjoyed your vids and thanks for posting and helping out hear on YouTube. It's been really helpful and has convinced me to ditch the TD-20 and use my acoustic kit that is just gathering dust at the moment!
It feels way more natural to play on this kit than on any of the roland kits. It has to do with the sizes of the drums and also the natural way of sitting behind a real kit.
Good luck with your kit, and feel free to ask me if you need some help/tips :-)
hey man...just wanted to know...are you using an edirol audio interface? it's just usb right? wondering if firewire is even at all necessary to get the lowest latency cuz it seems like ur latency is fine..
I am using a Native Instruments Audio Kontrol 1 for my laptop. I have also tried the Edirol UA-25/25ex, but the Audio Kontrol 1 gave me the lowest latency and it feels really good when playing.
FIrewire also works fine, I havent noticed any difference in latency between USB and firewire, at least not in the last 3 years. In my recording studio I use the desktop computer RME PCI card HDSP9632 because they have incredible low latency of just 32 samples. You should try that :-)
thanks dude...i've been making some vids too...not as good as your's....not even close...but i'll get there...really want a roland module but i like how the alesis io is bus powered...hehe...ROCK!
The Alesis is crap/ compared to a roland module.. I bought one for my kit but I could not get it to trigger properly. Lots of doubletrigging and the sensitivity is way off compared to the roland. So I saved up for the roland TD-9, it has a much better adjustment for the triggers.

Hi ! Is it easy to set up VH 11 with superior drummer ?
munktorp 7 months ago
Hello,
I have a Roland TD-3KW edrum set now. Should I sell them and buy a cheap acoustic set (like Tama Imperialstar) and buy triggers+mesh heads for them?
samumaster 9 months ago
Hi, how loud is the kit with mesh heads on? Particularly the bass drum? Nice kit and drumming :)
JoeFitzpatrick1 11 months ago
@deepdownstudios
Hi there, what drumhead skins are those?
Crajche 1 year ago
@Crajche
Those are Trax mesh-heads. Pearl and others have the same heads, often called practice heads.

What cable do you use to connect your td 9 module with your pc?
How did the superior drummer recognize your set? Thanks
wykisz 1 year ago
@wykisz Midi to USB adapter. Superior drummer uses standard midi. Most roland kits will play right out of the box.

Sounds and looks great man. What kind of roland triggers are you using? I want to do this to my acoustics. What are you using to silence the rims?
scottpersson 1 year ago
@scottpersson
Those are Roland RT-10K for kick, RT-10S for snare and toms.. The silencers are fuel/gas rubber lines split and fitted to the rims.

The only muffled drum is the bass drum because of its size. The trigger works better that way. No problem with the toms or snare.
deepdownstudios 1 year ago
hey, so are those drums muffled at all? did you stuff them all the way up, little bit or will the triggers work without it
Renfred93 2 years ago
what heads are you using?
xxxmartin666 2 years ago
Trax mesh heads. Also made by Pearl.

yes, i mean the sounds of your software...the Toms sounds are little thinny compares with the kick and snare.

can you use any midi drums? and wat midi controller are you using
MartyHITD 2 years ago
I would think so. I am using a Roland TD-9 as midi output into a native instruments Audio Kontrol 1 audio interface.

Prestes means presets. Too much wine.
thesoulpainter 2 years ago
Nice job on the drum sounds. Are these your prestes or out of the box? Love the the beat at 3:38.
What are you using to trigger the real drums?
thesoulpainter 2 years ago
Hey :-) Thank you!
Those are presets out of the box yes.
I use the Roland series triggers into the Roland TD-9 module.
deepdownstudios 2 years ago
arround 2000$.. and the td-9 module about 1350$

WiFi off yes. 2 GB ram installed. It should be sufficient, and I`m running solo in the 16 bit mode so be sure not to overload :-)
And yes I should at least restart to clear things up, maybe i will do that from now on.
