  • They should try this with an A380

  • @myrang3r or a 777 with GE-90-115B engines with about 115,000 pounds of thrust comming out the back end.

  • im suprised the car didnt burn i read the EGT meaters on the pilots engine panel and it read 702 for number 1 and number 2 is 813 degrees and thats Celcius so converted thats

1295 degree farenheit for number 1 and

1495 degrees farenheit for number 2

  • No not a Ford :(

  • I wish my girlfriend was in that Mondeo.

  • cant help but notice the lord of the rings music, lol:)

  • Good. Now clean up the runway!

  • May as well have just had #3 going

  • @ellzyss

Pretty much, all it really needed.

  • EPIC

  • as being an aeronautical engineer i don't think it's real. they underused the power of giant turbofan engine, at full throttle car should've been completely burned and flown away. not just flipped..!!

  • @owaism remember that only 2 engines were at maximum thrust when this happend so the jet wont yaw, and the EGT wasent was bad as all four so i dont think it will be burned just a slight and i dont think they would waste all that precious fuel of bringing the engines to full thrust on a fake video.

  • Let's see...

...Mythbusters did it with a taxi, a school bus, and a small airplane.

I think we see who's demo is more awesome...

ooh!!! the guy from brainiac science abuse!!!

  • Fake. Obviously small models tilt shifted.

  • @andrew260378 Uhuh.... Fake huh? You need more proof to backup your claim. I don't think they would waste all that jet fuel for a small scale model...

  • Why does he say yards instead of meters?

  • @FairMindedWatcher cause he's english

  • Haha, I like the use of the LotR music...

  • If the engines are at full power, why is the plane not taking off?

  • @tomek200 It is on a treadmill going the opposite way

  • @krashthemighty This is so perfect. Thanks for making this comment.

  • @krashthemighty its on an air cannon

  • @tomek200 there are these things called brakes... planes have them.

  • @tomek200 Because the parking brakes are on?

  • @tomek200 brakes, very strong brakes.

  • @tomek200

cause only 2 engines are at power. plus the brakes are on lol

  • How can the engines be at full power and it is still on the ground? The little breaks on the wheels stop it at full speed?

  • @brncarlisle713

I think it has to do with the plane only using 1 engine, as opposed to the regular 4.

  • @brncarlisle713 only 2 engines were pulled to full thrust plus the parking brake is more powerful than you think

  • middle-earth?

  • that car got pwnt

  • LOTR MUSIC!

  • Whoa Crikey!

    RIP Steve Irwin

  • LOTR's music FTW

  • @Pr0x1mo

    So epic

  • @Pr0x1mo ha noticed that too.

  • ''Light weight hippie car'' xD

  • The pilot is only using two of the engines, when the 747 400 takes off they use all 4 of them

  • What is it with Top Gear using Lord of the Rings music all over in the 4th series? It doesn't really fit well in my opinion...

  • 3...2.....UOOOOHH BLIMEY. haha

  • isnt the soundtrack from lord of the rings?

can somebody tell me the name?

  • F.O.D.

  • look at the planes tail at 1:35 and then at 1:50

  • Great... Drive behind a B777... The most powerful engine EVER put on a commercail plane

  • lol lotr music

  • and that's with only 2 engines running. well the cars only hit one engine blast as well. 56,000# of thrust? a cubic foot of air weighs about 1.25 grams. That's a LOT of air at a very high speed.

Funny thing is- because of the huge suction of the engine- a large fraction of takeoff thrust is due to the front of the engine trying to fill the hole in the air pressure is is sucking into the intake. Even a Dyson can't do that.... yet.

  • nice lord of the rings music there

  • stupid bull shit, how much money to make this shit video

  • @MsCasper2010 how are you gonna say its bull shit? a plane is capable of doing that...and they spent alot fo money actually...

  • saroman

  • These guys have the best jobs in the world

  • That's sad. There were only 2 engines actually running

  • @bassmastaification yup now can you imagine what all 4 at full thrust can do?

  • 3, 2- ah crikey!

  • That was awesome

  • @iTouchiReview of course there not gonna push all 4 engines to full thrust only 1 can do the job

  • Why even bother testing this? All they had to do was watch MythBusters...

  • @cunfuzzed Mythbusters didn't have access to a 747-400 with CF-6 engines for "insurance reasons".

A huffer is not even in the same league; its the thing you use to start one of these.

  • @cunfuzzed Mythbusters used turbojet engines, these are turbofans. Like comparing a pressure washer to a firehose.

  • @BrassAxe You do know that they went and redid the entire experiment, with a 747, right?

  • how about you ? gay.

    walk across behind the plane.

  • Captain Ford Mondeo:

    Prepare for takeoff!

    Captain Citroen 2CV:

    We have some turbulence!

  • Perfect soundtrack for this, Lotr for the win

  • -we have lift off!

    -for plane?

    -no! for the f*cking car!!!

  • LOL, the boys at TG always have something up their sleeves

  • They where only running two engines. Look when the pilot throttles up, he only uses engine 2 and 3 and at 1:43 look on the display. engines 2 and 3 are not running.

  • @ThomsonAirwaysFs its because the parking break would not be able to hold the plane back with all four engines running.

  • those are general electric jet engines.

  • look at those rolls go! rolls royce vs crap engine lol

  • ehm....., Maximal power of the engines? Yes, but only 2 of them

  • i love how they blured the company on all the scens except when the 2cv was blated away

  • in ground schools, you are taught to stay well clear of commercial aircraft of that size (of course they assume you are in a little Cessna or Piper). I now see why.

  • Rule of thumb, 1lb of thrust = about 2hp... just for a quick and dirty conversion... but many, many factors...

  • Haha theny dont want to see us that the 747 is owned by Virgin fail i could tell that by paint haha

  • Love the Lord of the Rings music in the background!

  • Douchebags This is totally pointless. No one in his right mind would even dream about driving behind a thrusting 747. Just a lame excuse to destroy some classic cars. Damn, do people annoy me when they do that.

  • @GM572 you sir are a tool

  • @DontEatYell0wSnow

No, I just love cars too much and it hurts when I see cars getting destroyed for pretty much no reason. This is BRAINIAC entertainment. Destroying stuff just because we can, no actual point whatsoever.

  • @GM572

Princess Juliana Airport has 747s flying in... AND a road right behind the runway, so I don't see this as a completely pointless experiment =)

  • @lolvks They stop motor traffic before the heavys take off and try to discourage people from standing on that section of beach. But there is always one or two idiots who don't listen and wind up hurt.

  • only fired up the two inner engines, imagine if all 4 were on

  • 3... 2... oH BLIMEY HAIR GOATS

  • was that someone's thumb on the lens?

  • FOD all over the place

  • @CaptLoneStarr Agreed alot of fun clearing up

  • a couple of times I have stood behind a KC-135R tanker while the pilot gave it power just to taxi. He just gave it a LITTLE power to taxi and I was about 400 yards behind it. It nearly knocked me on my ass. The heat wasn't bad, just slightly warmer than the ambient air. And that airplane is smaller than the 747.

  • the music in the beggining is from lord of the rings 2.

  • Top gear ftw

  • i think we should line up all 2cv's in the country and do this to all of them hateful French pieces of crap

  • Think the music is 'a kmnife in the dark' lord of the rings (fellowship) :)

  • they only throttled one engine, which isn't enough to really move a 200 ton plane with the parking brakes on, but 58,000 lbs of thrust from one engine is more than enough to blow around a measly 1.5 ton mondeo and a 1/2 ton 2CV

  • Awesome

  • I have a question! How does the plane stay still when the engines are on full blast?

  • @DudeUrG8De11 they apply full brake , or else the plane will start moving ;)

  • Lord of the Rings music rocks lol

  • thats kick ass

  • how come they let top gear do this but not mythbusters???

  • @shayw24 mythbusters did do this bud

  • oh no, not the 2CV!!

  • Love how they attempt to hide the Virgin Atlantic logo hahaha. It's not even blurred in one of the shots.

  • just 2 engines? no fun

  • the only place in the world where you'll drive behind the engines that close is St. Maarten [Princess Juliana International Airport]

  • Wat about if they put a person on it.

  • treldman...747 is NOT the largest plane in the world.....anotov An-225 is .....and A380 is also larger than the boeing 747

  • @asskick10

The 747 is actually longer than the 380. But the 380 is larger in every other dimension.

  • Crap, those cars are tossed like toys :D

  • Yup. It's why small planes usually must wait 5-7 minutes before landing behind a large aircraft.

  • the first ever flying car!!! lol

  • imagine standing there when they give it the beans :D

  • how do you get that job...haha

  • After 20 seconds it wouldnt rip up the tarmac!! Typical Top Gear exaggerating things!

  • Thats actualy not an exaggaration, not because of the thrust but because of the heat AND the thrust. Tarmac becomes soft when it gets hot.

  • @Lillie1986 But Bruce Willis can cope.

  • The Mythbusters did this same thing with a car, bus, and small plane. They ran up all 4 engines to full and started blow chunks of the taxiway off to the grass behind them. These were not small pieces either.

  • They only used 2 engines as well. Look carefully at the pilot throttling up the engines.

  • Makes sense to only use 2, using all 4 would be a waste of gas because the jet blast of the 1 and 4 engine would be considerably far away from the plane.

  • no it wont be a waste of gas, it would be a waste of kerosene :P lol

  • This was at prestwick airport in Glasgow, I recognise some of the scenery.

  • Why don't they use a 777? haha.

  • because it would wrip the tarmac off the runway

  • highly doubt that

  • Yes it would. It doesnt happen normally because the plane is rolling and therefore no piece of the runway is exposed for 20 seconds.

  • this is why this show is the best

  • I agree that would be really awesome

  • I'd like to see an A380's engines or even better...an Antonov An-225's engines O_O

  • The 777's top engine produces 115,000lbs. of thrust. They are the most powerful.

  • A380 or 777-300ER engines... they're big and powerful.... AN-225... not so much, thats why it has to have 6 of them!

  • about as powerful as a 747 engine; It needs 6 it's the largest plane in the world

  • Not true. AN-225 "could" be equipped with the A380 and 777-series engines, putting aside corporate decisions, but it's better to fit 6 normal-thrust engines because of cheaper maintenance. And in the event of a failure it has more backup. 4 GE90's might be enough, but 3 won't.

  • @scaremenga General Electric ran its test-bed 747 on just one GE-90 engine, that just shows the shear power of it. At take-off thrust, the GE-90-115B goes to 115,000 lbs of thrust!

  • I know, that's why it's such an amazing engine! When you say GE ran their test-bed 747, I think you mean that it took of with it's normal CF6's and at cruising altitude spooled up the GE90, and idled the CF6's right? I don't think even an empty 747 can be lifted up with one GE90, but level flight can likely be sustained.

  • bet they dont allow many 747's at french car meets lol

  • Comment removed

  • the music in the background is from Lord of the Ring , cool

  • Its a Virgin Atlantic !!!!

Why dont they use a GE90 to test hehe

  • I want one of them engines for a leaf blower.

  • Hammond said that they were using all 4 engines when in the test they were using only the two inboard engines.

  • A bus was tested too, and it flipped very nicely xp

  • Ma vola perchè gli sparano???

    E da dove scusate???

Allora è vero che anche i Boeing civili sono dotati di armi... :-(

  • But what would happen to say a Countach? Or a GT40? Could they flip from wind at all?

  • save your money, buy a used 747, a lambo, someone stupid enough to drive it through the crosswinds and FIND OUT! :) ....drop me a line when youve got the desired results (NO offense, just kiddin', given you thumbs up)

  • Thanks. What the hell is up with voting me down anyways? It's a relevant, scientific question! Anyway, ofcourse I'm not suggesting that someone should (potentially) destroy a supercar, but maybe one of those hideous replicas?

  • I'm glad you didn't get me wrong...i think we both love this show, but i agree with you on what you said. and as long as we have a scientific basis, destroying a supercar makes no difference to wrecking a regular car...and theres nothing regular about a citroen 2cv...i mean, theres more people drivin a lambo than that...just my humble opinion

  • another thumbs up :)

  • Personally, I would rather wreck a 2CV than a Murcielago, but that's me...

  • I think it'll still blew them away, cause the car is light, and 3 X 55,000 pound of thrust is enough for a 155 tones plane to take off, so you can imagine. BTW why choose Countach instead of a Murcielago?

  • wait, I think it's 485 tons

  • There are Replicas, + they are lower and more extreme in the wedge-shape. But what I mean is that all the air would rush over it, not hit it in the side like the 2CV.

  • It would rip any car to pieces and flip it. Possibly a tank if all 4 engines were turned on.

  • Not a tank. 50 tons? Solid armour? A howitzer maybe, but not a Challenger or Tiger or something like that.

  • Well 58000 pounds is 29 tons so x that by 4 and you have 116 tons of thrust. I'm sure it would atleast move it. Im no expert on this sort of stuff though, so?

  • It would probably move it, maybe start tareing it up, but I don't think it would flip it. And allso, the trust isn't directed on the car, it sprays out everywhere. The car only gets around 7-10% of the thrust on it at once.

  • Yeah I know the thrust disperses over distances.

  • and thats IF the thrust from all 4 hit it at the same time. which is nigh impossible

  • How much do I love the fact that they're using LOTR music?

    Five stars much!

  • notice how it's almost an add for virgin atlantic
