As a small kid when I watched Dragon Ball I loved it, I'm older now but I wasn't really impressed with the film, it was watchable, but the story was kind of boring to me. I was happy when I heard Ayumi tho, I was like 'ITS AYU!'

Guys, stop protecting the movie. It's a shit adaption, NO kid likes it, and it didn't stick to god damned anything. If the Dragon Balls were called something else and you got rid of Chatwin's fucking stupid looking hair, you wouldn't even think it had ANYTHING to do with "Dragonball."

the main true issue with the film, disregarding fan accuracy bias, is the length, or lack there of, because 150+ episodes of a series cannot be condensed to 1.5 hrs...for instance, try turning all 8 harry potter movies into a movie that length and see how that works out...the timeline adaptation wasn't bad, but they left out too much that was originally essential and took out the suspense element dragonball/dbz contain at times by speeding thru the story...a 2hr movie could work...good song tho

Not sure why people hated the movie so much, I totally expected it to be its own interprutation of the Dragonball series, and from that I though they did a decent enough job of mixing the original plot and making it into their own version, something more modern.

The song was even still the best part of the song hands down.

Well I didn't like the movie compared to the anime...but if DB didn't exist (which would be horrible) the movie wouldn't be that bad. At least they didn't go crazy with Goku's hair. that would have been weird. Oh and the movie was an "adaptation" of the series. It wasn't suppose to be exactly like it. It was only suppose to be based off it. sort of like an alternative story.

Goku is a saiyan in the movie, but the movie is not a original Dragon Ball movie, is a story based on dragon ball, is like a new Dragon Ball version, with real actors, the movie not sucks for me, cause i know, this is a attempt to bring to life one of the greatest anime legends of the world. i love this movie cause, i already knew, the movie is not the same thing of the anime/manga, Dragonball Evolution is a modern version of Dragon Ball.

@Alias1495 Agreed. For the most part, it wasn't even based on Dragonball Z, it was based on Dragonball. It was an enjoyable flick, never intended to be a blockbuster. It didn't set out to be the hit film of 2009 and knew its limitations. The characters were mostly true to their source material and the gist of the plot was the same as the Manga and the Anime. My only gripe was that the Saiyans weren't mentioned. Surprisingly, the game based on the film did mention them.

well it was based on db not dbz so it was destined to be corny from the start but then they made him a teen, modest, in the city, having a crush, not tail or nimbus, and I guess most importantly it was kinda equal to your average tv episode of Power Rangers acting and effects-wise. I'd say the best part was Piccolo lol I'm sure if they make the sequel of DBZ it'd be cool s'long as they don't do corny effects (and include Super Saiyan without screwing up)

We are a fanbase that followed the series since childhood and is enlightened to most every detail from the manga, anime and/or some games.

Being fair, it is a bad movie by any standard. Yes. I watched it about 40 minutes ago. And one that can burn the eyes of the keen fans of the series.

Reimaginations were acceptable when they kept the theme, the soul and were doing justice to the original. Like Wide Sargasso Sea to Jane Eyre. Not this.
