  • I surely will come to Brownsville but not at this time. I will be occupied with my writings for a while. I sure wish I had some chance to visit over both the trail and the jam. I enjoy chatting and receiving your updates. Thanks again.

  • Hi, Annie and Mac. good to see you again. Enjoyed having met you and heard wonderful vocal by Annie. Can you let me know about the jam session you've talked about? Thanks.

  • @Goldenbell001 It was great to meet you! Thank you for your comments to our videos. There is a jam in Browntown - 2nd Friday of each month - Browntown Community Center. Its about 8 miles from Front Royal. Maybe we'll see you there.

  • @annieandmac Hi Annie and Mac, Thanks for the info. I'll see if I can find Browntown community center on the google. One of these days, I may be able to enjoy with you. Loved your wonderful vocal, Mac's too,,,,, Just had wonderful chat with you..

  • @annieandmac I think I sent reply, but doesn't show on this page, so, here it goes again. I did have wonderful association with you along with listening to beautiful impromptu recital. I'm glad to have ran into you..

  • Hey, Mac, when did you start playing the banjo? I'm 25. Is that too late to start?

  • @holyhackjackson8 It's never too late - I was 30 when I started playing.

  • @annieandmac Thanks. Did you play anything else before you started banjo?

  • @holyhackjackson8 No, just banjo and harmonica and now a little Cajun accordion.

  • @annieandmac Well i guess there's nothing stopping me! Apart from owning an actual banjo, haha. Thanks, Mac, I'll start saving. Loving your Johnson Boys, I can't stop playing it! Such a great tune.

  • Have you heard the many a story told by old and young with joy

  • Good morning! I had a quick question for you guys. What are the guitar chords for this song? I downloaded tabs for this song, but it just doesn't sound right no matter how I play it. Thank you, and keep up the great work! Brian

  • @BBYMRLCCOTN Thanks for your nice comment. Following are the chords the way we play it in key of C. I suppose there may be more than one version of this song, this is how we play it. Hope this helps.--Annie

  • Annie- what kind of guitar do you play? And is it the same in all the videos? Thanks and thanks for all the songs!!

  • This guitar is a Sigma (they were made for the Martin Guitar Company). This one was made in Japan in the 1970s. My other guitar is a D-15 Martin, mahogany. I bought it new about 7 years ago. I alternate between the two guitars. We're glad you enjoy the songs. Thanks for the comment.

  • Great playing! Really nice sounding instruments..that's an especially loud banjo too. Don't hear a bunch of loud, clear, open backs!

    5 stars.

  • Thanks for the message. That tubaphone style tone ring gives it a punch.

  • Where I live, everyone plays this song with a mouth bow!

    Quite a unique instrument.

    Nice playin, 5 stars

  • Thanks!! I've tried the mouth bow but can't seem to get the hang of it - Jimmie Driftwood used it on a few of his songs.

    Mac

  • Nice. I am sining this song in choir!

  • Thanks for commenting!! In choir?

  • Really nice guys, thanks.. And good clear video to help with learning the fingering. Cheers from the UK!

  • Thanks for the message and comment!!!

    Best,

    Mac

  • Sounds good, but doesn't the song have lyrics? I didn't think it was an instrumental.

  • Sorry it's taken so long to respond. I have seen different sets of verses to this song from Al Hopkins to Flatt & Scruggs but for now we just let the instruments do the talkin'

    Mac

  • I am one of the "Original Solie P. Johnson Boys" decended from Pine Mountain, North Carolina. I really enjoy your sound. Your music takes me back to the Family Reunions that we enjoyed as children in Conowingo, Maryland with my parents Clinton & Louise Johnson. Thank you for playing this one.

  • Thank you for the great message!!! I apologize for taking so long to respond. It's a joy to find connections to the history of this wonderful music!!

  • You remind me of days gone by of my grandparents who lived near Pilot Mountain NC

They played masny of those same songs for us kids. Thanks, You are great.

  • Thank you!!! Makes me feel like we're playing it right.

  • Thank you so much for this marvelous music i haven't heard in decades! may God Bless!

  • Thank you for those great comments!!!

  • I like your version over others I've seen. What's the tuning an the banjer on yer knee?

  • Thank you for commenting! The banjer is in double C tuning - From standard G tuning drop the 4th string from D to C & raise the 2nd string from B to C

  • your log cabin is a perfect setting for this music, thanks

  • Thanks for the comment. This old old time music just seeps out of the logs.
