The Republican party is only out for four years. Bush's mistake was that he didn't stand up to the Dems while they sponsored both borrower and lender irresponsibility. Quite the opposite, Dems are responsible for the over-reaching programs that opened the doors for this mess in the first place: Fanne Mae was thanks to FDR, Freddie Mac thanks to LBJ, the CRA thanks to Jimmy Carter, etc. I don't doubt that Reps have had their hands in it, too, but they're a far cry from the Dems who openly push regulation beyond all sense, then blame deregulators for the consequences.
My stupid neighbor bought a house. He was making 80k and paying $1400 in mortgage. Then his company downsized and moved the jobs to china. Ok he said, I've saved for a rainy day. Then the mortgage jumped to $2800 unexpectedly. My neighbor and I looked through the obfuscated terms of the mortgage and could not find anywhere it saying the mortgage rate could jump that high. Still does he deserve a bailout? Maybe not.

If you check out Northern Virginia foreclosures, you'll find homes ranging from 300 grand up to 7 figure homes. A gov't subsidized apartment is about as close of a right to housing and shelter as one can get. If one flips burgers or pushes buttons on a cash register, they don't deserve a home.
Housing and shelter have never, EVER been rights. When the first prehistoric humans roamed the African Savannah, do you think that houses grew out of the ground to satisfy the "right" to shelter? Of course not. They had to build it, find it, or do without. Or take it from someone else. Shelter isn't any more of a "right" today. Someone must build the houses. If you can't pay for your house, then you don't deserve it, period. Other people shouldn't have to pay when you won't pull your own weight.
You should be kicked out of your home and go live in an apartment for awhile until you can build up some savings, get a better job, or learn to cut back on other expenses so you can afford a house. If you're on the edge to the point that making ends meet is such a devastating issue, you need to back off from your expenses. That's what responsibility is about.

Look up the Community Reinvestment Act. It practically requires banks to make those kinds of investments. Yes, it is irresponsible, but of the government, not the bank. Were it not for the CRA and other such laws that require and/or dampen risky loans, banks wouldn't make them.
We all know the government knows best,now, don't we? But, even I know that It takes a lot more money coming in, than $30,000 a year, to afford such a house. I cant hold the government completely to blame. The banker and the buyer, both, should have had enough common senses to know how it would turn out, when one is trying to live beyond his means. The republicans were the absolute TOP PROPONENTS of deregulation along with the democrats. Deregulation escalated under the Reagan administration. Republicans voted in droves for Clintons Financial Services and Commodity Futures modernization acts. Republicans have been pushing free market theory since the 70's. Republicans were on the boards of some of these big investment firms that took part in the shenanigans. Obama just got into office. He's following the same policies as Bush.

I'm not sure where you get your information, but the Dems have never stood for deregulation. Quite the opposite, Dems are responsible for the over-reaching programs that opened the doors for this mess in the first place: Fanne Mae was thanks to FDR, Freddie Mac thanks to LBJ, the CRA thanks to Jimmy Carter, etc. I don't doubt that Reps have had their hands in it, too, but they're a far cry from the Dems who openly push regulation beyond all sense, then blame deregulators for the consequences.

My stupid neighbor bought a house. He was making 80k and paying $1400 in mortgage. Then his company downsized and moved the jobs to china. Ok he said, I've saved for a rainy day. Then the mortgage jumped to $2800 unexpectedly. My neighbor and I looked through the obfuscated terms of the mortgage and could not find anywhere it saying the mortgage rate could jump that high. Still does he deserve a bailout? Maybe not.

Then you missed it. These were called predator lendors for a reason, they were predators. They gave loans to people that didn't understand what they were signing. I own my home. I didn't fall into one of these scummy predator's contracts, on the other hand I didn't buy a home that was beyond my means. I haven't missed a payment ever and my interest rate will not balloon nor change, ever. I made sure of that before signing. It was there he just missed it.

If you check out Northern Virginia foreclosures, you'll find homes ranging from 300 grand up to 7 figure homes. A gov't subsidized apartment is about as close of a right to housing and shelter as one can get. If one flips burgers or pushes buttons on a cash register, they don't deserve a home.

Housing and shelter have never, EVER been rights. When the first prehistoric humans roamed the African Savannah, do you think that houses grew out of the ground to satisfy the "right" to shelter? Of course not. They had to build it, find it, or do without. Or take it from someone else. Shelter isn't any more of a "right" today. Someone must build the houses. If you can't pay for your house, then you don't deserve it, period. Other people shouldn't have to pay when you won't pull your own weight.

You should be kicked out of your home and go live in an apartment for awhile until you can build up some savings, get a better job, or learn to cut back on other expenses so you can afford a house. If you're on the edge to the point that making ends meet is such a devastating issue, you need to back off from your expenses. That's what responsibility is about.

Look up the Community Reinvestment Act. It practically requires banks to make those kinds of investments. Yes, it is irresponsible, but of the government, not the bank. Were it not for the CRA and other such laws that require and/or dampen risky loans, banks wouldn't make them.

I cant hold the government completely to blame. The banker and the buyer, both, should have had enough common senses to know how it would turn out, when one is trying to live beyond his means.
