  • Sexy doesn't begin to describe Kidman here :) I mean all those boys she walks by must of had massive boners

  • I have a massive schoolboy crush on Kidman because of this scene :)

  • It took me the entire film to finally figure out that pan was Freddie Highmore.

  • I love this film and think that it's one of the most overlooked and underrated Fantasy films since 2000 (along with Stardust and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen). Visual effects were decent. Nicole Kidman was stunning and very beautiful villainess. Dakota Blue Richards and Daniel Craig were great too. Hope they'll make a sequel

  • i thought her name was mrs coooter lol

  • i love nicole kidmans giggle! she's stunning!!!

  • she is austrialious!! why would Tom Cruise chose that new young wife of his...?

oh that Jordan Collage's dinning room, was it at Greenwich University, i studied there for like six years there! the campus was beautiful! wonder why tons of Hollywood movies shot there if they required a gorgeous victorian streets.

  • happy birthday dakota!!!!!!!!!

  • this movie delude people with the daemons, I think.

    I think they are real.

  • can somebody tell me how does this movie delude people? i wasn't paying much attention while i watched d movie...

  • the movie sucked but the books were ace. I can se Nicole as Mrs Coulter but Daniel Craig as Lord Asriel seriously?

  • Film sucks, book rocks.

  • Oh, PS, the film did so badly in theaters that New Line Cinema, the company that owned the film virtually, is now dead. Sorry folks, no sequels, so maybe they can try to make a ACTUALLY good adaptation a decade from now.

  • While the movie did indeed do terrible, it actually has less to do with New Line's fate than you think - Warner Bros. was going to buy out New Line no matter what, Golden Compass was just the straw that broke the camel's back.

  • That said, I'd still say stick with the book.

  • I love you Nicole! She is perfect!

  • I love nicole KIDMAN!!!

  • Como siempre la Kidman llevandose la pelicula y los aplausos del publico. Nicole esta perfecta como Mrs.Coulter y sin importar el personaje ella siempre los hace cálidos y humanos.

    Nic bella y guapisima!!!!!!

Espero verla mas de villana, es extraordinaria.

  • she screams mrs. coulter :D

I love pan and his voice is so cute.

  • I swear that Nicole Kidman is every inch of Mrs. Coulter in the movie...she is perfection! You can't find a flaw!

  • Nicole Kidman is perfect as Mrs. Coulter

  • Why would a dark, powerful, beautiful woman be played by a scrawing, overacting ex-husband to Tom Cruise be ideal? I cannot figure this out, then again, most kids commenting on this might actually think this was not complete crap...so depressing...

  • I think they are going to do, they didn't put the end on The Golden Compass cause they are going to use it as the begging of The Subtle Knife

  • Well, it'ld sure be nice if they'ld do the sequels -

but they better hurry up because the girl is growing....

  • yea mrs.coulter is real nice

  • i love how Nicole Kidman always does her

    "hmm?."

    in all her movies

it always reminds me it is her no matter what part she is playing

  • me! i cant believe that ppl dont understand that this guy does not belive in god, and the whole point of these books (and movie) is that GOD IS DEAD

  • If someone were to watch this movie and lose their belief in God..then they were not loyal to God to begin with. Personally speaking as a Christian myself, this is just a fantasy movie with some great CGI...but nothing more.

  • @MeganWood: Same here! And I'm a Catholic too!

  • THAT IS LIKE...100000000000000% PERFECTION~ ~!! she looks SOOOO PERFECT!

    I'm lost of words!

  • @nameaku your comment is certainly big for someone who's lost his/her words... :p

  • her strut seemed kind of awkward, like she was forcing it a bit, but she did say she was nervous about it.

  • mrs.coulter is awesome.

  • I love this scene~

  • I LOVE the opening music and ms coulter is so sexy xD

  • i want to buy pantalaimon

  • yeh if u read the book....

their are many scenes missed out and the scenes are jumbled up for instance lyra saves the kids before the bear fight

but noooooooo in the movie its after the fight

  • Great scene, but like the whole movie, too rushed, it should be longer.

In a behind the scenes video there's a missing footage with Lyra telling about her life, until Asriel left her with the scholars, and mrs. Coulter says "That's a fascinating story".

    I want the director's cut.

  • this movie is ok... but nicole kidman is cool & beautiful, great actress!

  • poor mrs coulter. she loved lyra so much. she saved lyras life 2 times. and that stupid little brat still hates her.

  • You must understand, Lyra is a little girl. Her logic doesn't work the same way as someone more mature. Coulter=A woman trying to control her. In Lyra's view, this is bad.

  • Lyra isnt a little girl she's 12 and she hates Mrs.Coulter because Mrs.coulter is in charge of the Gobblers and i toward the end of the third book Lyra starts to like mrs.coulter then mrs.coulter dies:(

  • 12 is little. She's prepubescent, and acts like it.

  • ...thanks for giving it away lmao. I'm reading the books and I just took a break from it for a second and the first thing I saw was that last sentence. GAA.

  • oops srry

  • she does?

oh, well I think she looks fine this way

  • In the book, dosn't Mrs Coulter have long dark brown hair...? I could be wrong, just wondering

  • ya, she does. and the money looked different. it wasn't a tammarin like this one.

  • She had black hair, but I still get your point, although Philip Pullman said he made a mistake with her hair, he said that "she's blonde, she has to be".

  • Way to spoil everything...

  • I'm sorry...how can I delete the comment??

  • thanks a lot...

  • great...thanks

  • yh great thanks, i'm just about to start reading the third book!

  • from what ive read of it, its awesome

  • nicole kidman looks very sexy in that dress =)

  • yea mrs.coulter is real nice

  • means has it sounds but i was expecting a 16 year old beautyful lyra >:\

  • why? she isn't 16 in the books either

  • then who is?

  • lol, no idea, but Lyra was 13 in the books

  • but the girl in this movie looks like a 10 year old >.>

  • yeah, well, the movie isn't about beautiful 13-16 year old girls anyway, lol

  • exactly its about, uh, the alethiometer or sumthin like that wait what is it about?

  • She was 11 in the books, then 12

  • noone is. what's wrong about 11-12?

  • kidman is perfect as Mrs. Coulter....great casting there

  • I know, I thought so as soon as I heard she was cast in the role! :D Even Pullman thought so, she was his first choice and he even wrote a letter to her persuading her to take the role!

  • totally agreed and lyra's potrayer dbr is aso perfect!!

  • i love freddie highmore in this movie :]

his voice as lyra's demon is so cute!

    he's an amazing actor<333

  • I wish I'd saw the movie :( I just got into the series and I'm halfway through The amber spyglass. It looked good though, and Kidman really does make a good Mrs. Coulter.

  • the movie is WAYYYYYYY off from the book

  • *shiver* my school councilor is a Mrs. Coulter

  • lol hide your daemon! xD

  • *rips out "soul" from chest*

  • lol thats funny watch out 4 the golden monkey!

  • this is cool, but in the 2nd and 3rd book , Lord Asriel Goes to kill the Authority which is God the book is still gooood

  • Yes, you're right, but Lord Asriel doesn't kill the Authority, no one really intentionally does. People say that the whole point of the books were to kill God, but it wasn't intentional, and that actually isn't the whole point of the books. The whole point was around Dust and what happened when you died. But ya, I agree with your comment.

  • thanx so much u r rite and my frend did tell me that the Authority dies not from Lord Asriel but old age

  • ur rite definitly

  • Pan looks so cute in ermine form!

  • I dont care if the author who wrote these books is an atheist, its not my place to judge. But what i dont like is that he is slamming the church and all those who believe in God. I mean thats just rude, I dont care who or what u believe in, i just dont want them to act immaturely or slam other peoples beliefs.

  • Read the books. Watch the movie. Understand what you're trying to say before you try to make yourself sound intelligent. The book was NOT about slamming Christianity. Actually, the "Authority" could be any of the many religions with one God. So, pull your head out of your ass, please, and take a look at reality.

  • what is the name of this song on the soundtrack??? IS it Dust??

  • In this clip? Mrs.Coulter.

  • Someone please tell me the name of this song on the soundtrack!!! Please!!!

  • Mrs.Coulter

  • Wish the whole dress was sparkly. Having the bottom not sparkle makes it look a bit odd.

  • "she shut up the headmaster" hehe love that bit

  • Nicole looks sooo PERFECTION in the scene!!!!

  • In the film too!^^

  • It's just a movie about you not taking sh** from anyone and standing up for your beliefs (in this case the totalitarian regime led by the "Magestirium" which is headed by Mrs. Coulter and "The Authority".

  • Amazing...I watched this movie recently and was pleasantly surprised. It's got storyline, stellar cast members and GREAT FXs...One of the best fantasies to hit the screen after LOTR...I really much enjoyed its mythology and if it weren't for all the controversy i wouldn't even understand that anything in this movie is atheist or anti-Catholic, which is not since religion is a matter not even TOUCHED on in this movie.

  • *struggling not to loose patience* I don't know why a clip for a movie is causing so much debate, but I hate to break it you people, it's FANTASY. That's all. Don't make more out of it than it is.

  • That's exactly what I say!

  • You both must be preachers?

  • In the sense that we all Christians are preachers, yes. However, I'm actually studying theology alongside my Early CHildcare Degree :p

  • which has now been changed to a Major in Religious Studies before I go to Messianic Seminary

  • I am, yes.

  • I would agree as to going by messaging from here on. I would like to say I have enjoyed your debate.

  • Oh, its nice to know you got something from it.

  • I am glad to hear that. Mostly people only get on here and leave hateful comments.

All I will suggest to you in listening to any preacher is if they cannot back up what they say with the Bible, turn away! (Old King James Version is tested and true)

  • This discussion is so ridiculous. Can't you guys distinguish between fictional and non-fictional reality?

  • Can you not understand that there is great danger in what you intertain your self with?

Matthew 15:19"For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:

  • Timothy, you're making them hate Jesus!

To them, He is an idea.

Stop trying to force it on them.

  • Your a perfect exsample of 2 Timothy 3:7"Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth". Romans 1:22

Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

  • Hold a mirror up to that statement, Timothy.

I preach to scientists with science! I preach to Jews using the Tanach! I preach to atheists from a point of view they understand. I preach to Muslims in a way they understand.

You do not try to preach to an Indian man speaking Portugese! You speak in Hindi!

I am saying that your using the wrong approach. Your trying to convince them in a way that only sends them away.

  • Sure we are to preach to the people where they are at. However, we are still to use the Bible.

  • So, if people are at a phaase in their life where they despise the bible and will nly run if they hear it?

You can use the bible without quoting it openly to them.

  • 1 Corinthians 1:17

preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

  • Iam only preaching and teaching the word. Eveyone has the choise to accept it or reject it. But the word must be proclaimed.

2 Timothy 4:5"But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry".

  • Jesus spoke to His people the Jews as a Jew, Peter spoke to the Jews as a Jew, Paul-who was Jewish, spoke to the Gentiles and disregarded the Jewish stuff.

Do you think that you will reach Atheists who despise Christianity by force-feeding it to their faces?

  • True, however, did they change the doctrine to make the people feel good about themselfs? NO!

If your not told your a sinner and on your way to hell how would you know?. The Gospel is the good news. Because is shows us our condition and the cure. Salvation in Christ.

And I am force feeding knowone. I uderstand not feeding babes meat, and needing to start with the milk of the Word. You on the other hand need to quit watering the milk down. That does not help anyone.

  • There is no hell, it was a mistranslation of the Greek word Hades and Hebrew word Sheol (actually, there are about six words for hell and none of them mean "eternal torment")

Watering the milk down? I have not done that. I preach by demonstrating the Word of God in my speech and actions, so that people will see how I reflect the light, not Copy and Paste the light.

  • No hell! you got to be kidding me. Heresy!

The Bible speaks of hell some 54 times.

What about Luke 16:24? or Mark 9:44"Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched".

Revelation 20:10"And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever".

    Should I go on?

  • The KJV speaks of hell some 54 times!

    The KJV an ENGLISH translation!

But I have read the HEBREW, I have seen whats on the SCROLLS, I have read the GREEK. The languages in whcih the Bible was first written. Not one of these words for hell (of which there are many many more than 54) mean "eternal fire of torment".

you see, Eternal, when used in its Biblical Linguistic context is a possesive-not a state of being, but a descriptive-posessive word.

  • God is Eternal- and the Fire with whcih he destorys the earth is Eternal. It is like the eternal fire of Sodom and Gommorah-it was also eternal, but does it stil burn?

Heresy-exactly what I thought you would say. Just as the Church claimed reading the Bible was heresy so long ago. The Church has made mistakes before, and surely, it will make them again.

I rely not on the words of translations, but on the words of the original. There is no argument against what was originally written.

  • To me, changing the meaning of the Word of God is heresy, and I know for a fact that the Biblical Hebrew and Greek did not mention a literal hell.

Yeshua (Jesus) spoke in parables many times, in fact, it is the very nature of the languages to be non-literal, but metaphorical.

"Hell" represents the one-time destruction of all evil, which will be forever remembered in our hearts, as the work of the Lord-the Eternal

  • Goodness and Evil can't co-exist, which is why we were seperated form God. Dualism is not possible, for Goodness, in its very nature, must be seperate from evil.

God will destroy all evil. Anihilate evil. Those who are not with God will be consumed in this destruction-and will exist no more, not in pleasure, not in torment. Their existence will be forever wiped.

  • If you was a true scollor than you would know that the KJV Bible is a word for word translation into english from the Textus Receptus and Masoretic Hebrew text.

    Your a Heretic!

  • If I was a true "scholar", which we should all strive to be, I would know that it is impossible to have a word for word translation of the Hebrew text, because Hebraic words are not induvidual like ENglish, but speak in phrases.

Timothy, I don't knwo where you are learning your information, I'm learning mine under Doctorate Professors at a Christian College-some who have seen the Dead Sea Scrolls for themselves and are fluent in Hebrew and Greek.

  • Textus Receptus was written in Latin- which was a translation of the New TEstament by the Roman Catholic Church. The same establishemnt that made it heretical to even speak of reading the Bible.

I amno more a heretic than you. It is against the teachings of our own faith that you can claim to cast judgement upon a fellow believer in Christ in this way.

  • You need to settle yourself on solid rock before you can try and convince others to join you. Know the Lord, Know what he has written. I urge you to study Hebrew. I urge you to see the Bible through fresh eyes, and not that of an establishment (Christian Church).

My faith does not rely on the translation of others, but on how the Holy Spirit leads me to interperet God's Word as it was Written.

Hoi kol tsameh, adonai elohenu tov.

  • What college would that be?

  • Avondale College, in Australia.

  • Who ever said the dead seascrolls are creditable? Just because something is old does not make it correct.

The KJV is a word for word translation, God said He would preserve His word - Matthew 5:18

"For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled". And I amsure the schollor that you are you know the"law" is the written word.

  • Oh dear, my friend. You are very mistaken.

Your loyaly appears to lie in the Church you've been lead to believe is the Rule, and not in the Haven of Jesus Christ.

It is well accepted that the Dead Sea Scrolls are credible evidence. They contain almost entire books of the Old Testament.

Actually, the Law is the Mosaic Laws given to the Children of Yisrael.

  • You see, most of the Laws of Moses require presence int he Temple of Jerusalem to be fulfilled, but when Jesus came, he became fulfilled thos elaws by bringing God's presence in a physical form. This is why it is no longer necessary to perfrom the Hebraic rituals.

Still, the law is in place. I am actually a very keen student of the Biblical Law, it is my specialty.

  • that previosu post of mine made little sense, due to typos.

It is pointless to argue over the dredibility of the KJV and the Dead Sea Scrolls. Both serve their purposes. Hwoever, mistranslations HAVE occured, before the KJV was written, most likely in the Textus Receptus.

Likewise, it is pointless to call someone a heretic. It serves to do nothing more than offend, and as Christians, we should be lifting each other up into understanding.

  • Awe! Now I see! Now it's clear, your a Seventh-day Adventist. You follow the teachings of Ellen White, interpretations from the pen of Ellen White not only contradict the Bible but contradict each other.

  • No, I am a Messianic Jew. I practise the faith of the CHildren of Israel and Yeshua did.

Yes, I was raised Adventist, and I (as well as many others) do not lay much foundation of Ellen White.

But even so, it is nothing of her words which I have spoken to you today, but only what I have gained from my own personal study.

  • And still so: Adventism is now considered mainstream Chrisitan (not that I see it as being anything other than under the jurisdiction of God).

Tell me, Timothy, as we have strayed very far from our original topic: What is your main purpose in quoting the Bible to these people?

  • If it is to try and convert them (which, is undeniable, for that is a fair goal). It will not- it only turns them away. What then? You are actually moving further from this goal the more you engage in quoting the Bible right out into their faces.

  • Well my friend you are then trying to convert people in your own power, and not that of God. With much respect, I suggest that you put more faith in the power of God and His Word.

  • I have all faith in the Power of God and His Word- I let His Word live through my Life nad not just my mouth.

The Holy Spirit has given me enough discernment to know when God wants me to preach from the Scripture, or to Preach from my heart. I know that in a circumstance like this, Straight out Scripture will not always work, so I let God shine through the knowledge I have been lead to learn.

  • You know- the Gifts of the Spirit?

Talents we have that can be used to preach. Preach using your talents, not just quotations. Perhaps THIS form of ministry is not where God wishes for you to be working, and he is using me as His marker- but then, who knows.

If you have talent in Healing, but not in Speaking in Tongues, then you should heal.

  • If you have talent in Discernment of the Spirit, but not of Knowledge, then you should not attempt to claim ability in a talent you have not been given.

Appreciate what God has given you and work to your strenths.

If you have any further comment to make, I think it would be best done so in email, as this is not an appropriate forum to discuss matters between two people.

  • That being said, I feel that the piece of knowledge I was required to give you has been given.

Have you been struggling with the allocation of gifts? Have you felt that you don't knwo where to be working?

God bless you in your journey to Greater Self and Spiritual Discovery with the SOn, Yeshua.

  • I would agree as to going by messaging from here on. I must say I have enjoyed our debate.

  • I would agree as to going by messaging from here on. I would like to say I have enjoyed your debate. Sorry I for got the Y in your. lol

  • Well simply put, I believe the Word of God to be powerful in of it's self. Plus if you can't back up what your saying concerning God, with the Word of God, than your just putting your own spin on things, and in so doing your building a house on the sand instead of on the rock.

  • I believe that we must Live the Words we choose to quote- otherwise we are nothing but hollow logs repeating what most people have already heard.

  • I don't mean to sound harsh, but I'm not very convinced that you are doing your own study, but only telling me what you have heard and read from other sources.

  • I think Nicole Kidman is God. That's my contribution to this stupid discussion. ;)

  • Proverbs 6:24-26 "To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids. For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adultress will hunt for the precious life".

  • I LOVE acting the bad character, so much to learn from it. Bad is the most fun!

  • what the hell is with all the religion shit? It doesn't matter if someone doesn't believe. And you preaching them just shows that you are a pig, and should be silenced!

  • I love this book, but I was slightly dissapointed with the movie though, I thought it would've been a bit better. I'm reading the Amber Spyglass right now and I think it's so cool how he's managed to make such a fantastically magical storyline, and the creatures and characters are very imaginative!

  • the golden compass was such a good movie. im ganna put it on my ipod. and Stevensjobs is right. there is nothing ronge with the movie.

  • she's perfect.

  • I SAW THE FILM ITS A FANTASY FILM. OK FANTASY...its this type of silly nonsence that will just help it make more money. thats its. In no way is this film swaying people from Jesus. I watched it and its not being doing anything to sway anything..its just fantasy. damn. People just make a big to do about nothing. Then when its something of importance no one wants to step forth.

  • in the immortal words of Jimmy Carr:"when i was a kid i had an imaginary friend who went everywhere with me and could grant me wishes.... but then i grew up and stopped going to church"

  • Oh please...like anyone will make that kind of connection really. but you. In the movie it didnt mention anything about not going to church or anything religious. its a FANTASY FILM. lol this is so funny.

  • Kidman is a Goddess. i cant' wait to see the movie

  • I haven't seen the movie cause my dad heard about it, something about killing god. I can understand.

  • Well you can tell your dad that's complete rubbish!

    It's only an impostor!

  • and they cut out all the god stuff from the movies, i really wonder how there ganna do the 2nd and 3rd with out fake god n it.

  • Narnia movie...sucking in children to pump in biblical superstition. disgusting.

  • The Golden Compass isn't satanic it's atheist! The author of the book series wrote it to counter the chronicles of narnia. Personally, I believe The Golden Compass is far better suited for children to watch. After all, christians are the ones who start religious wars and try to brain wash people into thinking the garbage from an outdated book is history. Atheists do not.

  • Okay, THAT really pisses me off, MaryLochart. You haven't read His Dark Materials Trilogy, have you? Do you even know why it's called that? Who are you to say what is suitable for kids? I think Pullman is a genius for showing such a different view of religion. Yes, it is shocking for Christians, but I'm a Catholic and I think the entire story is awesome. Furthermore, TCON is not garbage and brain washing. Don't be so damn paranoid.

  • As qouted by MaryLochart "The Golden Compass isn't satanic it's atheist!"

Am I the only one that is shaking my head at this foolish comment?

  • Apparently you aren't. Everyone on the radio claims it's atheist. When I checked up on it on wikipedia it also claims it is atheist. When I read the trilogy some time ago I believed it to be atheist. Why are people having such a hard time with this?

  • Look, Atheists don't believe in God, if you look at it from a Christian pov, Satan doesn't have to DO anything at all!

He is focusing on using Christians to corrupt other people's views of Christianity. He is working from within, not from the outside. He couldn't care less if people DON'T believe, its about making people think the believers are crazy. Thats his way of trying to offend God.

  • Or perhaps, it's simply people like yourself who are too insecure to bear any contradictions against your "mighty" and "righteous" way of thinking and thus lash out against books and movies like this. Hmm, what does that make me think of? A fear of books... oh yeah, how about Fahrenheit 451, or 1984? Only fools fear knowledge. I'm a Christian and I find intolerant gentlemen like you to be an embarrassment to the religion. Tolerance. Maybe you should try it.

  • Your a Christian,Yeah, ok. I think that term is used very loosely today. Here is why I doubt you are. Your compairing the wisdom and proven credabilty of the Holy Bible which has stood the test of time for thousands of years, to Fahrenheit 451.

  • Doubt me all you like. I am completely secure in my faith in the Lord, and I don't feel the need to lash out against perceived threats in order to protect myself. I was not comparing the Bible to Fahrenheit 451. I was pointing out that you fear that which you should not. It is a children's book, nothing more. If you are such a good strong Christian, then why should it bother you? Have you read it? It's not a guide to satanic worship, it's a fantasy.

  • Your lack of understanding is frightening.

#1 how do you know your secure in your faith and what does that mean to you?

You said "It's not a guide to satanic worship, it's a fantasy." Well friend the Bible says Proverbs 22:3 "A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished."

  • What the hell is that supposed to mean? I'm secure in my faith; I believe in God and nothing will change that. How do you know you're secure in YOUR faith, since you're so afraid of this movie, these books? I know that you think you are helping people, but you're not doing anything but offending people. I'm not going to argue with you anymore. We're not going to change each other's opinions in the least, so why bother?

  • I am glad you believe in God,however, as said in James 2:19"Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble." Do you know what it means to be born again? If not I can show you, because the Bible says in John 3:3"Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

And yes, I am secure, and sure of it. (1John5:13)

  • shhh.

    Timothy, let these people be.

It is not what we see but how we interperet it. I see no danger in allowing ourselves to be aware of what others think.
