Can anybody tell me the name of this piano? My Daddy had one just like it and Jerry Lee was/ is his hero!!.I Miss Daddy, used to sit on stoop and watch him play!!!!!!Tall ,had two doors in front ,could open and see the felt hit!!!
@missprissy1100 Not sure just from listening! I know the ones you refering to, but can't think of the name! My Dad played piano for Dances in the 40's, 50's&60's until mid 70's, he would often remove the front part of whatever piano they had at the hall., to let more sound out!!! At Home he had a Newcomb made in 1885(I still have it and play it) His dad bought it, it kind of a family airloom, I play Country Western(traditional) and 50's Rock'n'Roll...
ever since my dad introduced me to jerry lee, i havnt stopped listening ... its been about 6 years now ... and this is my favourite tune ... just wish i could play that cotton picking piano as good as he can hah ...
Just before it ends there's a guitar chord that was randomly played by Billy Lee Riley who didn't realize they were recording because they started when he was in 'the crapper' as Jack Clemente from Sun Records called it. He said "We just left it on there." The song was recorded with only piano, drums and Jerry Lee's vocal.
@Zipgunn1 Ya know, from the description in the book there are no overdubs on this. I think Billy Lee was supposed to be playing bass on the session. He played bass on a lot of Sun sessions and Jerry Lee played piano on his biggest rockabilly hits, Red Hot and Flying Saucers Rock'n'Roll.
@sharkabilly I think this sounds like a later version altogether. I had a listen to a couple of other postings and I think this is the one with basic instrumentation and the random chord
this is by far the best version that i have heard him do, i have searched and searched and have not found a video of him doing this version. just this one with the still photo of his foot,,, anyone that has footage to this please post, i have watched this.. or shall i say listened to this about 50 times and i like it more each time!
This is the version that comes out on the movie. Its freakin awesome. Ive been searching for this one forever. Ive tried listening to all the other versions but its just not the same.
I don't care if he married a teen in the 50's/60's it was a different time in hick areas of America. Jerry, you be the fucking man and this is your best hit in my opinion.

The style of this song is definitely recognizable as a "honky-tonk" style in my opinion...but the song needs more of the steel guitar.
