Strange that in Regis's biography "How I Got This Way", he says that it was a stunt planned by Joey, and that he didn't want to do it, but "took one for the team". Here he says pretty much the opposite.

I watched the show because of Regis. Even back then, I thought Regis was the best emcee, announcer around.

it was a fake walk off to get ratings. why does this idiot believe anyone would believe it was anyone else? he should stop being so contemptuous of audiences. Or maybe not; he's obviously made a ton of money since then being a shallow minded dunce. And tons of idiots watching TV have bought it.

he is not mentioning that joey suggested to him to do a fake walk-off to scare ABC into embarrassment. but it backfired. joey panicked and demanded that ABC bring regis back. the truth was he was just awful as a sidekick. had no charisma and acted more like a lap dog. but people felt sorry for regis- so it worked to his favor.

@bigred997 Exactly. I don't understand how Regis remained in show business as long as he did. Regis patterned his delivery after Dean Martin. He's not even close to Dean Martin. Never was............ Dean Martin was a true original!! He will never be surpassed. R.I.P. Dean!!!
