Beautifully sung with excellent "diction". Perhaps conditioned by knowing this opera and duet for over 60 years, my heart is easily wrenched by this tender and touching rendition so beautifully done. Ah, the exquiste pain and joy to see such sacrifice done in an emotional minute of wanting to be good and noble.
As immitation singing goes, this is very good. BTW that handkerchief she's holding and sniffeling into...good idea, otherwise we might not know that Violetta is sad in this moment - or did Fleming just have a cold that evening? Two people desparately trying to wrench an emotional reaction out of us, without giving us anything sincere that might bring about said reaction.I for one don't believe a word these two are saying, although heard abstractly, the individual sounds are actually quite lovely.
lol I misread your comment, the first word I read was "Fleming" in the second line and then "died" in the first line so I was like "oh shit!" then, after reading your comment properly I was like "O, thank God!" ^ v ^
I agree though, I don't like her in everything she does, but she sounds wonderful in the right repertoire, such as here where she sounds creamy, rich and opulent.

Go suck eggs! Neither has any idea of Italianate diction, let alone mean what they sing. All that technique and "artistry" for what??? Who cares?? Go suck eggs...
I think the baritone music is just marked "a tempo" which would suggest that Germont, staying in character, doesn't betray the feelings he has developed for this girl by keeping his reserve and almost trying to drown out her passionate sorrow at the news. She sounds excellent here. I always knew this was going to be her signature role, more than Pirata and Armida, which are just display pieces anyway. She doesn't need anyone's help, that's for sure, but only to reflect on those roles a bit more.
FLEMING VOICE IS SOOO SILKY HERE! I've never heard her sing so vulnerably! I was waiting to hear this duet with her a Violetta and I'm glad you posted this. As usual the pairing of Fleming and Hvorostofsky is a wonderful blend of tones but he could have done just a bit more dramatically. I love it!
I Love her creamy ringing tone voice and she sings this aria so lyrically without making it sappy. I feel her pain and vulnerability. I don't understand why Hvorotovsky looks angry though. Shouldn't he be sympathetic to Violetta at this moment? I can't see him as Germont.
Lol, noble and loving Germont is just not him. Baritone with warm, mahogany voice would have been better for this role. At the end of the day this is a recital though. I will still applaude to his performance.
renee looks like the last person in the world dying of consumption and the male singer looks like "sting" in the movie about outer space- yet LaTrav is as reliable cure for the blues as any show biz yet invented-
Dear...this is being sung in concert version. There are no costumes nor make-up to help with the visual here. Furthermore, I don't think a singer dying of "consumption" would be singing this performance....... Wise up !! HON !!!
Outstanding!

She exudes soft, vulnerable, feminine persona and it really works for Violetta. I can't wait to see her Violetta on the stage.

Well, I think that's because Hvorotovsky can't be sympathetic at all! That's a feeling he just can't hold within.
