Always liked this one - it's like the only generic "rock" song they ever did w/Neil. Can you imagine Neil writing "leave me alone and let me rock and roll!"-style lyrics?!
to think that they were all just 22 years of age here and about to change music history! fucking awesome minds balanced with exeptional timing and chemistry, it just doesnt happen anymore, bands are formed then onto something else nowadays, rush are amazing x
God they still had the road in them here. No, they always have the road in them. Here they still have the club in them! What a voice Geddy has. While all of my friends were making the jokes I was so taken in by how he could phrase and convey a mood by his gifted tonality. Only the best orators can do this. If you can't pick up on this you're apparently oblivious and that's just too bad.
@paulj0557 I agree - and they still had the straight ahead rock vibe in them from their club days. Neil certainly helped changed things but I also liked it when they rocked out in the early days - high energy, interesting lines, energetic power trio. Lots of younger Rush fans don't like the early Rush stuff (maybe because they weren't around then) but for those of us who grew up seeing them in the clubs this was the vibe we knew early on. And they took off in a big way.
@Th0masBivens NOO!!!!! where is sounds like he is saying "ohhh there some guys and a crool who thinks hes real cool". that part what does he say on that part!

Hey buddy, Geddster's a dude. Haven't you heard the very infamous saying? Geddy doesn't sing like women, women sing like Geddy. He's got the range anybody dreams of. Rush, the greatest band to date. They're rumored to make another concept album ( 2112, Hemispheres), but they deny it for the most part.
@mRtReMeLo If I ever get to see 2112, Hemispheres, A Farewell to Kings, or Caress of Steel live... There are no words I can use to explain to you how I would feel.
@expertgamerz101 I did see it live, but they don't play the whole song live, and I would love to see the rest of one of their '70s albums. I would probably like Caress of Steel the most, CoS and 2112 are my two favorites.
@expertgamerz101 Yeah, definitely the most underrated album ever. I would love to see Cygnus X-1 1 and 2, La Villa Strangiato, Xanadu, 2112, The Necromancer, The Fountain of Lamneth, and By-Tor and the Snow Dog all in their entirety in one show, my life would be changed forever. All of their epics in one night would blow me away.
@mRtReMeLo and they failed except for Deborah Dalbello, she does sound like geddy and I wouldn't date her if she normally sounded like that. That is not what a woman is supposed to sound like. Women can be either alto or above. Geddy is not alto he is high tenor. as is Johnney(Bassman) Cymbol.
He's also 33 years older and playing 3 hour shows instead of the 40-minute opening act shows that they were playing at this time. Cut the greatest drummer of all time some slack. Check out O Baterista if you think he's going through the motions.
All the World's a Stage was no 40 minute gig! Most drummers only improve with age, until even their 70's. I am a better drummer in my 40's than I was @ 22. True, I do need to build my endurance for solos, which is hard to come by, being a dad and working 50+ hrs a week, but even with brutal injuries I rcv'd in an accident,I still can do 3 hr gigs, and wail the crap out of those skins! I thought he went thru the motions in '83, on the solo from "Exit"..No fire! BTW, Greatest drummer ever=Weckl!
I never said All the World's a Stage was a forty minute gig. If you read my post it said "opening act". At no time did I say ATWS. Not sure what a "Weckl" is. Either way, I don't see it equalling the greatest ever. Everyone has their opinion and yours wasn't well thought out. Thank you for replying.

Okay. One last reply. My point is, ATWAS came out not more than one year after Fly By Night, where they were doing much longer shows than 40 minutes, and I am sure that they practiced their butts off for hours a day. So I don't feel Neils endurance has some how improved over the years. I've seen them many times, and NEVER a 3 hour show. Maybe 2 with encore. If you don't know who Dave "Weckl" is, you MUST check out his many videos on You Tube! He is from another planet! Most amazing drummer EVER!

Neil's a FINE drummer! He was my inspiration for years. I still LOVE his stuff, especially from Moving pix, back. But there's LOTS of drummers who make his abilities look like grade school! Dave Weckl's seriously THEE MOST incredible drummer. Watch his video,"Tiempo De Festival",(et. al.),and check out the rhytyms, and his solo about 2/3 thru. He is a one man drum and FULL latin percussion section all in one. He is BEYOND SICK! Your jaw will hit the floor! Also, type in Dylan Elise. He is 16! OMG!!
Abilities are not that important sometimes in music, actually in fact, they account for very little. It is the making of beats and being able to play them well that make you an awesome drummer. I do not know many drummers who are claimed to be the best in the world by doing covers.
Yes, they did. What You're Doing was intended as the final encore I'm sure, but the City Hall crowd was going mental and they came back on and Best I Can was the last tune of the night. They looked knocked out by the reception they'd had from the Newcastle crowd.
I saw Rush '75. Last gig of a tour opening for KIss at the Civic Theater in San Diego. Before Rush could start their encore, members of Kiss came on stage and threw cream pies in their faces. They wiped off what they could and did their encore.
When Kiss played their set,& was about to do a third encore, Rush did the same to them. Funniest thing I've ever seen on stage in all my years of concert going.
bassandgitarreguy, i read i think im going bald on Caress of Steel is a tribute to Kiss' i think im going blind, or something. i didn't knew y till now.
I remember when I was 14 and bought RUSH Archives just after Christmas 1981. I was totally hooked on that RUSH to CARESS OF STEEL period. I wish I had video footage of Rush playing that stuff then. It`s SO good to have it now. I prefer YES to Rush nowadays...but I will always hold a place in my heart for Rush...they were awesome then. Such idiosynchracy within the confines of such quasi macho-rock. Love this period of Rush!
This is so awesome seeing this classic video, it makes me think of laying on the floor in front of the old console TV on top of my turtle pillow in 1976 when I was 10 and was watching Don Kirshners Rock Conert or the Midnight Special. I remember it was either one of those shoes that introduced me to RUSH and I have been hooked ever since.
GREAT tune! Grew up with this band since hearing Farewell to Kings back in '78. Next Thursday I'll be in the crowd here in Vancouver to see them with my 11 year old son. Hope to hear Geddy do a little of what he does at 2:10 ! ooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaayeahh!
either Geddy was getting really jazzy in the middle of the guitar solo (which is very possible) or he was one fret off in parts. BUT, it doesn't matter, cause this is WAY cooler than watching them mime to the studio version.
i loved rush like this back when they were hungry the fly by night album is a wonderfull piece of work as is caress of steel its sad that so few people know of these older rush albums
Happy Birthday Geddy!!!

I've never been a rush fan.
But now I'm actually really appreciating how good they were.

"I just like to please, don't like to tease, I'm FUNNY like that"
uh oh, Geddy messed up a line.
Or maybe they wouldn't let him say easy.
