Years ago I read a Star Wars series of comics called Legacy. One of the comics involved Palpatine discussing the plans for the Death Star with Tarkin and his aids. During which Palpatine requested railing to be added throughout all the bridges. But one of Tarkin's aids told him they would have to increase the budget by about 30%. So Palpatine withdrew his request and opted to be more careful while on the Death Star. That's probably why there are no railings throughout the whole battlestation.
@IRONHIDE434 They didn't explain why it was there but they pointed out how vulnerable it was. It was originally like 20-30 metres long and Palpatine said "it was too freakin BIG". So Tarkin reduced it's size to 2 metres and added like a thousand guns to protect it. He was confident that nobody in the entire universe (except Darth Vader) would be able to make such a shot.
I would fully support these guys in their campaign of a rail. That shit is not safe. At least get them some harnesses and ropes that hang from above the computer front of em.
Actually the one thing I always noticed in star wars movies are that the complete lack of safty everywhere. It is one of the most unrealistic features in the whole saga.
If you look real close, the one guy starts leaning on the console lol

I use this all the time. In work, if my colleague is having a bad day, I turn round and say. Well none of this'll matter when were famous singers.

Oh sure, let the guys who fire the damn thing get flash visors with their helmets, but these guys don't have one, let alone a safety rail.
