  • The most famous varient was "Star Ship One" if anyone can remember watching the Zep movie "The song remains the same"

  • I notice vents opening on the engine bell, but its looks like its aft of the primary fan. Are those vents exauhsting air due to high pressure (kind of like a blow by system) or are those before the primary fan and actualy helping air intake?

  • Great sounds, takes me back to my Navy days when I used to travel by air a lot, especially on the 707's, DC-8s and the like.

  • I remember a take off like this once when traveling to Florida. There was no stand by at all. Just turn and go. Loved it! Didn't even get a chance to prep for the air. :-)

  • I just love the symphony of classic jetliner engines, its music to my ears :)

  • Low Bypass FTW!!

  • I love the sound of these engines

  • the sound of the engines is amaizing...loove it:X

  • tamizing... love it:X

he sound of the engine is

  • ahhhh yes, another long lost service from the airlines. loud engines that could and would drown out the sound of squealing infants and the unsolicited chatty seat mate.

    waxing sentimental!

  • My eldest brother used to Captain these for Air Zimbabwe (when it was still a real airline some years ago), to and from Europe.

  • That brought back so many memories, My 1st flight on a American Airlines 707 LAX-BOS 1st Class, Champaign before we left the gate at LAX ! Hot Flt Attendants . Real menus .Real china, Real food, Had Filet Miginon , Red wine Etc. Complimentary pack of Winstons Hot towels.. AH The good ole days of flying ! Great Video !!!! Now we get a .25 Cent bag of peanutsIf were lucky!

  • Wow the old Boeing 720.707 Brother.

  • holy crap the engines r shakin!

  • i need to laugh.

  • Modern aircraft desperately need some sound engineering - orientate at the B720/707, engineers!

  • Clearly you lot have never heard a RR Conway then. Turn off your Sims and go fly a REAL Aircraft,

  • I cannot stand Rolls Royce. Give me GE any day.

  • They didn't seem to spin as quick as the turbofans as of today. You can hear the difference

  • That is right. I've flew one of them 3 days ago.

  • And ofcourse I meant; flew a 707 3 days ago.

  • No RR engine can sound as sweet as these!

  • You wouldn't hear them if they were RR

  • That's because Fails-Thrice engines are pieces of shit.

  • 3 spools are better than 2.

  • the old rb211's fitted on the old BA 747s and tristars where fcuking loud.

  • being someone who lives very near an international airport who's heard a range of turbofans over many years on many different aircraft I'd say Rolls Royce on the whole makes engines that sound sweeter to the ear than the American counterparts with exception to the jt8ds and these old jt3.

  • And that means what to me?

  • Being a pilot who's flewn nearly all these aircrafts over so many years. Is shure that all these things sound nice! (to my opinion ofcourse:)

  • They certainly did. i miss the days our car alarms used to go off everytime these old birds flew over.loud but they sound cool,

nowadays all you hear from airbuses are hums and a gush of wind.

  • yea indeed to bad that some airforce's that fly them changed the engines to newer ones. :(

  • @Mat54hondekop I like boeing planes more though XD but thats probably because I grew up with them and I don't know a lot about airbus. (and because airbus cockpits are a lot different in flight simulator)

  • @Mat54hondekop British Airways has the biggest 747 fleet in the world...

  • @Flyglobespan93 I meant to say that most european airliners are airbusses today. I didnt mean that there are no boeings left flying in europe.

  • @Mat54hondekop ok sorry

  • unless a ge90 comes by =)

  • true...as if they were vacuum cleaners or washing machines,,,lol...

  • does this plane have a smooth ride or a bumpy ride?

  • An absolute Old School! JT8D's!

  • The holes atop the intake at the front of the pylon are the turbocompressor intakes. Jets back then were relatively underpowered and did not have high compression ratios. So rather than use a large amount of bleed air to pressurize the cabin, a smaller amount is used to drive the turbocompressor which does the job.

  • I love those cheater holes.

  • what are those holes for?

  • basically, the old inlet designs didn't allow enough airflow into the engine. They're kinda just spring loaded doors and when the intake pressure gets high enough they open up to let more air in. Once in flight, the ram air pressure is enough to suffice.
