Clay Bennett just wanted a team for OKC and the first one that came on the market was Seattle. He then ransomed the State asking for a new facility which was not needed at all, the Key arena is still very nice. I'm sure people in OKC are very nice but don't blame Seattle fans for having a bitter taste in our mouths.

Dumb, dumb move by the NBA. They act like there's no way the Sonics could have stayed, like Key Arena was some level of hell where fans didn't actually pay to go to basketball games. There was a solution there to be found. Stern has nixed a thousand deals in his day, and he wholeheartedly approved of this one to move the Sonics. All this does is weaken the league by trading a mid-size market for a small one.

But a business is also your cutomers having faith in you. If you pull the rug out from under them, swindle them, rob them (even just a small portion of your customers) then the rest of the customers will start to realize that something is off.

yes, it's about making money, but you can't make money if your customers don't like the way you handle business, casting off your most loyal customers (Seattle - 40 years).

I think that many fans are going to realuze the precedent being set is wrong.

The key arena is not "obsolete". It just needed a few touch ups. Stern and Bennet forced Seattle into a corner demanding a new arena. And yet, even after the move became official, stern proclaimed that the key arena was a viable arena!

This is not Seattle's fault, they wanted the team to stay, but didn't want to pay some bogus ransom money.

Excellent point. I never saw any mention of this important NBA story during ABC/ESPN's coverage of the Finals. Instead all we got was stories about the celebrities who are Celtics or Lakers.

Try to look at this way. I am from Houston and I love my home teams. We lost the Oilers and then we build a new stadium and then the Texans are born. We almost lost the Rockets but we build an arena they stayed. The one thing your city has to do is build it first, and things will happen sooner than you think.

Memphis is losing money with the Grizzles. If the OKC can break a lease with Seattle. Than watch the Grizzles do the same and then move to Seattle.

The whole plan from the very beginning was for Bennett to come in and steal the team for his hometown, and he had Stern in his pocket the whole time. Bill Gates could have offered $10B for an arena, and it wouldn't have made one bit of difference.

Everyone an their mother knew Bennett wanted to move the team when he bought it, including Schultz. The bottom line is it's Clay Bennett's team and he wants to make money off of it. The franchise lossed 12 million dollars a year in Seattle under Schultz, and that is not acceptable for that size of market. Maybe the city of Seattle should have thought about keeping the Sonics when they were splurging on Safeco and Qwest.
