A few weeks ago I did what some might deem impossible or unthinkable: I cancelled shaw cable TV. In retrospect it was long overdue. With today’s technology and high speed internet connections, I can watch most of my favorite shows on-demand with little or no extra cost. Ditto for movies, news, and even some sports.

Primus (dsl) has unlimited downloading, not throttled and do not use the bell lines, so bell`s throttling doesn`t effect Primus. They are the same speed and are much cheaper than Bell or Rogers. I`ve been with Primus for over a year now, and have had no problems at all. Everyone should make the switch, save some money and you can keep downloading torrents any time you want at full speeds!

Actually primus uses bell line since bell own all copper line and if you use copper for internet you are using bell. So you only have two choices Bell Or Rogers.

@SaveTheHumanRace No your wrong there, I looked into it and found out that Primus does not use the bell lines, and that was the reason i switched with them. I don't get throttled anymore.

Can you please tell me where you got your information from because all minor ISP have to use bell network to provide internet, (at least in my area) Only cable companies like rogers, shaw, cogeco have they own cable network.

@SaveTheHumanRace Dont remember exactly where, i just remember looking up reviews and info of differnt isp's and found out primus doesn't go through the bell lines (not in all areas). So i called them up and they checked and told me my area didnt use the bell lines.  That was over a year ago, and I havent been throttled since I left Bell.

incompetent, 1 internet is free yes, but the bandwidth the campanies are making available to you is not free they pay for it so it is normal that you get a cap on your line because u use too mutch bandwidth, perhaps if you where more inteligent you would see that the backbone companies charges our providersssssss too mutch and that is the real problem dont blame bell for a cap yes they do cap but others do...

I know the costs of bandwidth, apperently you do not. its pennys per gig total cost to transfer. The prices rogers/bell charge are outragous in the first place. They cover more then the cost of 1tb of transfer for every user. They just perfer to shove as meny people on the network as possible witout upgrading it.

It means. That unless that third party website pays bell or rogers to allow their website through you wont get it. If you dont pay to access the website you wont get it.

Rogers/Bell wants to make digital subscriptions only internet. You pay so much a month you get "X" amount of websites. You want to play online games you pay this much more per game.

Yes. You will get a basic package, just like cable TV, and then have to pay for other sites on a pay per page basis. If you want to research anything you will be limited to what you can afford. It will create a tiered access where the rich get it all and little ol' me and you get Fox, CBC, and of course anything they don't want you to see will no longer be available. Opinions will be supressed, justice delayed, the same propaganda as T.V., OHHHH! Canada!!

They do it under the guise of more profits, but it really is an attempt to censor the truth and tell people only what the rich and powerful want for us to hear. The large ISPs own their network and can ultimately do what they want with it. The notion of the 'Internet being owned by the world' I'm okay with. The notion that those who own and invested in the path to get there should be forced to provide free access and have no say in how they manager their own network is ludicous.

Net Neutrality - maybe, But throttling is an entirely different issue. The big ISPs are not controlling what you see or do (even if they give some priority to their own data - that's the bonus if you sign with them. Companies in EVERY industry do this). They are prioritizing types of data so that functions like VoIP get priority over bittorrent and other obtrusive bandwidth hogging services.

These networks are owned almost entirely by Bell, and NO the governemtn never paid for it. Bell did. Greetings from New Brunswick. I've been following the Net Neutrality story for quite some time, and unfortunatly in my small little town all that is available is the highly unreliable and overpriced Bell Aliant internet service. Now one thing I've not been given clear information on is that Bell is the only Canadian company pushing this idea, or are others such as Rogers and Shaw and other companies following it as well?
