  • I can relate to this...oddly <3

  • Que excelente canción...que manera de terminar.

  • The 15 "dislikes" are obviously musically ignorant.

  • FNORDQ.....ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT work on the art for the video! this needs to be submitted to Portishead asap for consideration as the OFFICIAL video for this song. the dark disdain of the artwork is a perfect compliment to the equally dark and disdainful song. My soul belongs to Ms. Gibbons and Mr. Barrow.

  • 3:21

  • "With western eyes and serpent's breath we lay our own conscience to rest..." Does the word Illuminati rings a bell to anyone?

  • @Jabberwock156 No, just to the crazies. lol :P

  • @Jabberwock156 I actually had the same thought. However, you can't expect everyone to get the reference.

  • so underrated..

  • See this is why Portishead listeners are like there are own society. We don't call people "faggots and douches" like other comment strings I've seen. We share information and find our own poetic ways to say "Portishead kicks ass". That makes me smile. Thanks to all of you who have brightened my day by acting like an online community of artists, music enthusiasts, and mature people. PEACE

  • Can't wait

    ...SD to LA

    ..

  • GUESS WHAT ! I am HIGH ! :D

  • Anybody knows where I can find the picture at 1:56 online or the person who took it?

  • creepy... but really awesome!!! and I agree "what a piece of art"

  • Fantastic SONG!

  • puke is failure

  • Man... I feel so cool whenever I bob my head to Portishead... Truly an experience...

  • great song!!!

  • does anybody knows if the 'I feel so done of hookers and gin' part is actually a song?

  • @saraylane The song "Hookers and Gin" was created by Portishead when they were unable to find the perfect sample for this song. I know, I was really disappointed too!

  • @thesaradactyl that question always crossed my mind! Thank you.

  • Doesn´t get any better...a true quest for your inner soul.

  • BRILLIANT ARTWORK...

  • Masterpiece.

  • great video... great song... great band........

    simply beautiful...

this is not a song, it is more like a musical experience...

  • I wish this song lasted an hour...

  • M.C. Escher is amazing dude!

  • Love Portishead and your video; does it supposed to be the life of a drug addic or something?

  • I've always been holding down sweet Charity.....

  • who's the guy singing at the end @ 3:20

  • @soltanprivet That's the main reason I keep looking up this song! he sounds like he is wearing a nice suit.

  • If there is ever a tribute album for Trish Keenan I say Portishead should be in it.

  • Well made video; Good Job

  • Happy Birthday Beth!

  • This is absolutely fucking brilliant. You have some serious talent.

  • @cconat You're missing my point, this is partly my fault due to my lack of explanation. Civilization implements more organized, methodical ways of murder. The holocaust is a perfect example. Serial killers are a manifestation of civilization's clean way of delivering death to others. Because they are born out of Civilization, they learn ways to kill and dispose of their dead. I think what you fail to realize is that there is a dark side to the golden age, humans are not infallible.

  • veryniceinterpretationandgreatsongcombinedtogether!

  • for some reason, I equate this song with serial killers. the refrain seems to suggest that with 'serpent's breath'(the advent of christianity, the polarization of good and evil), and western eyes(the advent of civilization as we know it now) have both contributed their fare share to the existence of sociopaths who kill and do other twisted things for pleasure.

  • Comment removed

  • @turkeysub3000 funny you should say that, i wrote a crappy screenplay a few years ago about a serial killer and i played this song practically non stop as i wrote it, actually imagined it as the song playing over the final scene as the weathy killer casually and arrogantly escapes once again, leaving our main characters dying in his wake

  • is this song describeing the shit people in this world ,and the hiden heroes are the people still worth meeting

  • Incredible work. Congratulations! Perfectly fit!

  • fed video!

  • You will never find it. Hookers & Gin from the "sean atkins experience" is just a joke they explain the process of making the song. type in Hookers & Gin from the "sean atkins experience" then look for kotinetti.suomi.net/heikki.hietala/westerneyes.htm

  • I Just remembered that the hookers and jin song is listen in the cd credits.

S.Atkins samples Hookers & Gin from the "sean atkins experience" 1957 courtesy of Starfish Records Inc.

But google wont help you find anything on that song

  • I can't find that hookers and gin song ANYWHERE. I want to hear it.

  • @shellystonespoop

Yeah i tried looking for it too.

But from what i read on the internet they like to take old record that are probably not circulating around.

  • @shellystonespoop There is no song about hookers anf gin. They faked a bit

  • haha yes - I do zaitt!

  • este video é oficial ?

  • Voz mais perfeita de todo o mundo...

  • Vid is just as depressive as the song. Luv it!

  • love this song

  • thats so weird!!

  • So Good!! Portishead has no equal. Perfect for a rainy day

  • Still one of the greatest outros of any album ever.

  • Wow, awesome job! Really draws you into the music.

  • Wow..I don't even think I blinked while watching the video. It really gets to your head

  • This is what music is all about. Taking what u hear and relating it to an artistic eye. Love it!

  • pure art

congratulations my friend, im sure portishead are proud

i study animantion and this is one of my favorites styles

  • Damn, respect for the video!!

This one really blew my mind, does the meaning of art need any more explanation? :)

  • Does anyone know where the sample from 3:24 to the end of the song came from?

  • I guess it's not a sample, it's something they did, and made it sound like an old song sample.

  • wish all their songs were like that haha

  • This song depresses the hell out of me and yet it makes me happy, anyone have the same experience?

  • @zaitt Yes

  • @zaitt yes i do? is this wrong? or what? i feel fine ...

  • @zaitt ...i sure do.

  • @zaitt I think it's a sort of energized melancholy they've captured. I say it's energized, given as that it doesn't just sap the spirit out of the listener - as, I'm afraid, some other approaches to melancholic music may. There's an indelible cleverness in the Portishead style - so I think, anyways.

  • @zaitt

I love it. when i am bummed out, I listen to it. and it somehow gets me out of my funk...but when i let my friends listen to it they always say ...oh it's to depressing for me!

  • @zaitt absolutely... whole thing is much stronger with this video, thats really from deep, d´from heart.

  • @zaitt your a surrealist

  • @mapledelux How's that surrealist...?

  • surrealists usually like the dark things in life

  • @zaitt Same here, but it's seasonal...

  • @zaitt

well this song actually kinda scared me

  • @zaitt know what you mean. I feel sort of empowered a little when someone speaks out some feelings I have. It´s like you see you´re not the only person to feel how you feel...

  • @zaitt Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @zaitt Sort of.

  • @zaitt "This is a very sad song, but if you're like me, I always find the saddest music is also the most beautiful and this is one of my favorite songs that I've ever written" - Steven Wilson on Stop Swimming (Porcupine Tree) .

I think this quote answers the question !

  • What is this about?

  • fanmade? this should have been the official vid! what a piece of art

  • I agree with you! After I saw this I had to put it in my favorites, simply amazing!

  • @scaleshchess Agreed

  • god it gets so bad after 2:59

  • Simply amazing as usual...

Anybody know what the sample at 3:22 is from? "I feel so cold, all hookers and gin..."

  • It's actually *not* a sample as I recall, but actually a self-made bit treated to sound "lo-fi retro." The album credits is as the Sean Atkins Project of 1957, but it's sort of an in joke. Google "hookers and gin" and you should get the explanation on the first page.

  • Ah, thanks! Makes sense now...

  • @Bus3204 cant find the explanation, what does it mean? im puzzled.

  • PJ Harvey ;)

    pozdrowienia z Polski ;)

    great song!!! ;D

  • I believe it is from the song "western eyes" by portishead

  • hermoso

  • fantastici!!

  • awesome song

    awesome band

    awesomw video

  • this band will never die. i agree with matrags cause i think i would die if Portishead became a fad D:

  • Outstanding Work!!! That's for sharing!

  • I feel so cold. All hookers and gin. This mess we're in.

  • ...hookers...and gin...3:22

  • yeah!

  • You've done a really amazing work, I came back and watched this over and over... Perfect! Congrats...

  • pretty good work in the animation.. you got the scence of the song.... so sensual voice i love portishead since the first time that i listen them... in 1997

  • i wonder if there's a special toothpaste for serpents breath

  • What a very great band. Never really in fasion, never really out of it. Just there for all to enjoy.

  • Hypnotizing, relaxing, and very sensual voice.

I'd like her to whisper this song in my ear, then...

  • hookers....and gin.....

    this mess were in.

I think you summed up the angst very well in this short. I would be curious about what animation techniques you used in this, I have had a few ideas for some DCD songs...care to chat?

  • The movie "Watchmen" was horrid. I didn't even bother to finish watching the movie. After an hour, I gave up. Bored me to death. The movie was misleading and bland.

  • Comment removed

  • hmm nicely done. you seemed to have captured the song's true essence and put it into those nice clips. 5/5. grats mate.

  • agreed indeed. one of the best fan vids ive seen

  • i listened to this song while reading the final chapter of 'watchmen'

    it enhanced the experience tenfold

  • And how did the Watchmen speak to you?

Did you see it for what it was?

  • Of course everyone must have realised that Beth's voice is a bit like Billie Holliday's. But then again, there's the folk-music influence as well.

  • Great vid!!!

*love the added touch of the mushrooms on the table. YUMMY!!!!!*

  • This song sounds like Blue Foundation stuff.

  • sweet video to a good song, well done.

  • One Amazing Video

  • als würde ich in einem hellen zimmer sitzen mit dramatischen bilden an der wand ......einem leichten wind und sonnenstrahlen die mein gedicht berühren .......* zeitlos

  • Love it, great job!

  • the peak is just before the top. and i no what he/she means aswell.

  • love this song!

  • It is depressing but beautiful nonetheless. I was a die-hard Portishead fan at the peak of my suicidal phase. I can only listen to them in small doses now.

  • LMAO! the peak

  • Surely the peak would have been doing the act..... what you doing still on youtube

  • i know what u mean.

  • I know what you mean... during a period I was listening to Dummy and Portishead while I was in love with a girl (I wrote a long text about her called the Portishead Experience). Then the girl disappeared, we sort of broke up. I couldn't listen for Portishead songs for five or six years. And everytime the radio or a friend of mine was playing Glory Box or Roads I wanted to jump out of the window. Now I feel better, I can listen Beth's voice again but my hearts fills up with great sadness.

  • This one and Biscuit are, so, so cool!

  • 我感觉真冷,恋醉于女郎和松子酒。我们将一起共度良宵。

  • really cool vid., good job.

  • My fav Portishead track.

  • One of the best by portishead!!

  • very nice

  • is this adrian utley singing : "I feel so cold, on hookers and gin..."??? TNX :D

  • its a spoof sample. the guy singing is called Sean Atkins, formerly of the band 'Whores of Babylon' and friend of Geoff Barrow. in the CD liner notes, the sample is said to be from a track called 'Hookers and Gin' credited to the 'Sean Atkins Experience' from 1957 'released on Starfish records' - like i said, a spoof sample. :)

  • Depressing is good. If you come to me 4 comfort, first I will instigate you into expressing negative emotions. Works so good when you keep your stance 2 present logical reasoning & then it makes sense. An aha moment & the open door to your heart of one's thought thinking to seek solutions. No longer is the focus on what has but rather now the what if? Conflict is good time 2 stop & question self "what lessons am i 2 learn at this time?" Ask & the answer comes.U will know & power of no aswell

  • u want depressing ,check out the cure

  • uploaded on my birthday d:

    jhahah!

  • you were born in 2007?

    sorry, stupid comment :)

  • haha! i ment may thirty first.

    d:

  • He said "on my birthday" not "when i was born"

    ;)

  • happy birthday

  • lol wtf? lepik your so wrong! Portishead couldn't be any more the opposite of what you said

  • he was describing the fan video, skewed a bit cause the video is fine

  • interesting, you have talent , but for my tastes its too predictable, cliched, expected and heavy handed ... perhaps a different, less obvious perspective would have been satisfying.

the outsider with his lonely bottle of booze.

    magnificent and boring.

    his dreams are more colorful.

  • gotta luv escher at the end

  • discovered after hearing only you on the craft soundtrack in 96...still the ishy miake

  • This song is mighty great/depressing. I love it. The video is really well done too. Thank you.

  • the song is amazing and this video is...absolutely fantastic!

    i love it!

  • "...the sample at the end of 'Western Eyes' which is credited on the album as S. Atkins, taken from 'The Sean Atkins Experience', 1957, Starfish Records Inc. This is a joke. 'The Sean Atkins Experience' does not exist. The review explains that this is a made-up sample which 'has been slowed to a Sinatra pace'. Sean Atkins is a member 'of Bristol band The Whores Of Babylon', and a friend of Geoff Barrow."

  • I've been playing this album ever since it came out in the late 90s. Still love it!

Does anybody know which song they sample from at the end? ("on hookers and gin...this mess we're in")

  • is this the real video, because if it isn't WOW good work

  • Great video, excellent abstract images. Very, very good recording of an awesome song from a brilliant band!

  • ohhh great video..greatly matches the images I see while listening to this song

  • ..on hookers and Gin. this mess we're in.. I love this song, thanks for the post and the video.

  • Have always loved the band - really enjoyed your interpretation, thanks for sharing your talent.

  • Great song, great video...

  • los dibujos tienen un estilo a lo pantera rosa (pink panter).

  • scarry video :O awesome =)

  • yh good one.. this album portishead tho. some songs dont sound like beth singing :(

  • Agreed...

  • thank you

  • I have always loved this song...great video man...CONGRATULATIONS¡¡¡

  • Mia Zwi PAOK

  • gr8 fan made video, good enought to become official

  • ya pretty cool

  • Fuckin' awesome!

  • if you want to be ana then listen to this, honey ^_^

  • so I had Western Eyes on the turntable playing and coincidently I just finished playing Nardis by Miles Davis. You can defiantly mix the lead from Nardis and play it over Western Eyes or take her voice and play it over Nardis... in my opinion. It sounds pretty cool. I dunno...

  • god this is fucking haunting. always takes me back to past times, it's like fucking magic.

    portishead = unbelievable talent

  • it's like kate melua:D

  • piękne.. -_-

  • i wonder if the disheveled figure is supposed to represent beth?

  • This was a really good Video! It fit in with the song and everything! Very Nice!

  • Hope they [P] have seen it!

    that's just amazingly Beautiful.. *

  • This is why i looove Portishead!

  • this used to make me cry....
