I got news that in May of 2012 3751 may make another run to the Grand Canyon Railway and double head with 4960 to the canyon! Please note this is still being decided so don't get your hopes up yet. Also does anyone know what happened to the water tender 3751 used in this excursion?
Yeah it is. I just can't imagine not seeing a steam engine pulling the train to the south rim of the Grand Canyon. Oh well at least they still have the ALCO's and the F40's
My father and I where there at the NRHS Grand Canyon trip. One of the best steam hunting trips we ever where on. We had seats in the first dome car. Awsome!
A steamer going up Cajon pass is a by gone era that is for sure. What an event that must have been to witness in person on both ground and passing trains!
3751 and 4960 have some of the best looks and whistles, a locomotive could ever have!

The "Let's Roll" auxiliary tender has traveled behind 4449, 3751, 4960, 18 and 700, but never 765

This is the greatest event that ever occured in the history of the Grand Canyon Railway. Maybe it can happen again.

I rode the GCRY in May 2009 and it sucked! They have 2 perfectly good steamers (29 and 4960) and they don't use them! Get rid of xanterra!

Great whistle (and a pretty fine locomotive underneath it and a fine landscape to run through). Wow! US steam rocks (UK Railfan here)

why exactly would they be doing that? curious...

Xanterra says it isn't "environmentally friendly". I'm sure that isn't it. It's probably too much money and xanterra thinks it's a waste of money.
