Why does no one write stuff like this nowadays? The nearest I've come to finding for instrumental concept albums is Automaton by Lee Davey on cdbaby, nice to see some musicians not following the norm!
When one set the bar for the genre since he introduced it in 1969, it's hard for anyone else to quite compare unless they were heavily influenced by the creator, in this case Edgar Froese. I agree that it would be cool if there were others that could measure up to his visions and art, but there just aren't. However, you could try "Tigerforest", although he is so influenced he tries to cover a few pieces. Good Luck...
billybongle ?? you write the same shit over and over again as bellow "Why does no one write stuff like this nowadays? The nearest I've come to...bands like this have been around for decades writing material for film scores etc as do kraftwerk as you commented on there with the same comments... get a life //
@billybongle chimp spanner and animals as leaders are VERY good, give heavy music a chance, it's still groovy, AND it's instrumental so don't worry about it being some annoying dude screaming(but i love the screaming, lol) i like this music, but it's just way too repetitive rhythmic wise, PLEASE LOOK UP THOSE BANDS!!! CLARITY IN CHAOS IS CHIMP SPANNER'S BEST SONG, HE FUSED TOGETHER 2 DIFFERENT PATHS OF MUSIC THAT SEEMED TO NEVER GO TOGETHER(ADVANCED TIME SIGNATURE CHANGES YET VERY MELODIC!)
As I know this version never has been released on disc. I really love this song, taken from the album "Underwater Sunlight" (1986). And I am very happy to say I have been there in front of Reichstag 1st of August 1987. Have made some pictures there. They had a lot of Atari Megas on the stage and I enjoyed the laser show, of course! It was a special time whilst the Berlin Wall still exists these years.
That year I was just 10 and wasn't keen on that kind of music - I would listen to, as I recall, bands like Slade. I started to listen to electronic music about a year ago and found Tangerine Dream the best.
randomly stumbled on to this video! i feel so alive right now. if any1 knows of other msic artist like this please do share, greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!
Brian eno. he was massively influenced by krautrock, even ripped off a lot of their ideas for the album low with david bowie. look up the krautrock documentary on youtube too!
Holy crap! This song is amazing and the guitar solo is also superb! I remember I used to listen to Tangerine Dream songs and I wasn't even born in the 70's, the group seems to be very nice that still kept going on.
I just love instrumental electronic music! Thanks for posting this!
increible banda la del "sueño mandarina", son 3 cabrones y suenan mas ponchado que Rush :P jajaja (just kidding), me pregunto si bandas de "electronica" como Stereolab, existirian sin esta banda???
Very good... start video from 2:06, the dancers on the floor? :) Outstanding guitar solo.. and nice effects on this video... space, fireworks,, yeah rich in atmosphere
The line-up for this concert was Froese, Franke & Haslinger. The lead melody line for "Ride on the Ray", an original recording which first appeared on the "Underwater Sunlight" studio album, was in fact Haslinger's audition for the band. As for this excellent, extended live version, it is taken from a German radio broadcast of the Reichstag concert in Aug. 1987. Hence the great sound quality (by bootleg standards). The original bootleg was "Timeless Space", made up of two audio cassettes.
Thanks, turnbull. I've been wondering where this version came from. Underwater Sunlight is one of my favorite TD albums, and this version is much better than what made it on the album.
Heard of this band a few years ago, i feel that this track has to be the Best ever, love the intricate work with the guitars and synthesisers if that is the right way of phrasing this, i feel that this is their best track unless anyone can point out to me a better one, and love the video to accompany it, yes i have to agree awesome.....
Some people say that TD became commercial after the late 70s, but still you cannot find very many examples of other electronic music that compares to their later work.
They became more structured and progressive, and less ambient and meandering; but they remained unique.
Personally I like a lot of TD's stuff from all the eras.
There's a song called Beach Theme which contains a solo that sound's pretty similar to these sound and someone told me its a synthesizer that sounds like a guitar...What is the right thing?
On the Album "Sing" Curt Cress is performing a Guitar Solo on a Yamaha DX1 FM Synthesizer very well. The Synthesizer Sound Programming has been done by Peter Weihe, one of the best Studio and Live Guitar Players. I would like to say it's possible to play a Synth as a guitar since the late 80's.
What? You didn't listen to Tangram, Force Majeure, White Eagle (for me their last best albums). I'll think you wanted to say you don't like T.D changes from analogue to digital synths and you're right. Vintage moogs, prophets and so on, is not recommended today because they have practically no maintenances (their electronic components are obsolete/out of order).
I've really been getting back into tangerine Dream again. Need to get of that Ozric Tentacles craze I've been going through, but they're just so damn amazing! But so is Tangerine Dream. =)
For me this a the suite of a RUSH show. Imaging a world. Rush song like... Ya know! Exit stage left, Hémisphère, Signals, Power windows albums... Just great! Thank you for that music!
This is more like it. I really don't think Tangerine Dream sound too well live, not from what I've seen on youtube, with awful accompanying singers, sounds like some mediocre new romantic crap, but this is more like it.
