  • I'm goin from a 250sx to a rmz 450, I've been riding for about six years and I would have to say I have more control with 4ts more traction and more confidence to hit a crazy looking jump I never had with the 2t, yeah they may be more expensive buy I think its a good price to pay for something more enjoyable to ride, it's not about power or speed it's about confidence in your abilities, but they really do have more power it just doesn't come all at once , it let's you used ever ounce of hp in a

  • @thews21 well yea a 2-stroke takes alot more work to go fast on, they have more power but you have to be able to use it, thats where the 4-stroke is better its alot easier to use the full potential of the power. and the crf-450 is going to have more torque cuz its a 450 put a 250f against a 250t and the 250t will blow it away in overall power. as far as what bike a ktm 300 will make more torque and horsepower than most 450's

If u like 2 strokes and have a secret to make them faster than the new 4 strokes, that's good for u, I had a 86 250r, 2000cr250 and both bikes got smoked by a trx450er with an HRC kit I switched to 4 stroke when that same bike pulled away from a "85 atc500 swap" the only 2 stroke that still has my respect is the 2010+ af cr500 from service Honda

  • @thews21 it takes alot to make a 2-stroke run with the 4's? are you high? it takes almost twice the cc's for a 4-stroke to run with a 2-stroke. and as far as "the pros ride 4-strokes" im so sick of that comeback, they ride them because they are paid to, because the rules give them an unfair displacement advantage, and because the track designs are catered to 4-strokes. im not anti 4-stroke im just sick and tired of people arguing that an inferior engine design is better

    During 1985 , in france,Yamaha sold 15 or 20 yz 490 each year.

    I imagine honda or kawa sold a little more.

    These bike was for half-pro and pro pilots.

    They stopped these bikes because 3 bike was too much

    here ... the kx has no prob .

    At the touquet enduro, a 500 could ride 160 km/h during line speed

    This KX has no problem and comes to 100 km/h faster than the 450-2

    But 100 is the max speed for a standard motocross bike

  • Get any 2 stroke and put it agains the 2012 crf250r and the 2 stroke will get smoked I know this because I got smoked by an 05 on my 2001 cr250

  • ok the crf250r has more bottom end power so of course it will beat a cr250 in the long run! but a cr250 would most likely pull off in front in the beggining! and i could get lots of 2 strokes that would beat that crf250r!

  • @6KENNETHY 4-strokes do not have more low end torque, they may be more manageable off the bottom but an equal sized 2-stroke will make around 10ft/lbs of torque more off the bottom

  • I don't think people imagine the real power of these bikes.

    Take a 500-2, 60 hp. An HP can lift 75 kg to 1 meter in 1 sec.

    So when the bike is at 6000 rpm it give you 60 hp (100% power).

    Pass first gear, leave the clutch quickly (good luck).

    You+bike=200 kg, it may lift you from the ground to H. (H=60*75/200).

    H=22 meters up in 1 sec !!! Even it is 15 meters, what I mean , a pilot use the power he needs not the power he has. Be happy not to give always power to the ground.

  • Having really 30-35 hp (125-2,250-4), 45-50 hp (250-2,450-4) or 60-65 hp (500-2), is not very important on a track where it is difficult to give the power to the ground. Don't look at the power the honda-kawa... gives on the paper , they were so funny (increasing 2 HP each year for the same engine sometimes. Ex :48-52-55-58 for 250 CR). They stopped to give the power of there bike because, if no.. The honda 250 cr had 75 hp today,more than 500 cr (marketing power).

  • 2 strokes 500 are monsters (CR, KX, 490YZ). Few people can really use them on short track. Racing straight line is not a race. Of course the 500 could be faster if it had the good kit chain. But in motocross, a good pilot could explode many of us with a 80 (sure with a 125). The man is 80% in motocross on a bike he likes to ride.

  • @stefan11hv Well yes and no. You have 3 options with a standard clutch when up shifting and here they are slow to fast in shift and acceleration speed. 1. You let off the gas and pull in clutch, shift, let out the clutch while getting back on the power. 2. You chop the throttle and shift 3. You keep the throttle wide open and pull in the clutch just enough to shift. - In short they should be using option 3 in this video and a stock machine is not deigned to shift under full load :)

  • the gearing of the newer 4 strokes is setup for high speed but is not on older open class 2 strokes just a matter of gearing but power wise the 2 strokes produce way more power per cm3.

  • @85cc144 the kx500 remained virtually unchanged from 1986 til 04, other than a few different valve settings and some new sticker kits. have a look at a picture of an 04 and a picture of an 89, same thing.

    the motor remained the exact same since 86

    i ripped on a 06 KX250f with my old 00" RM 125. kept with it till 3rd gear. my 03 RM 250 DESTROYED it. the 450f kept up till 3rd.

    did you listen to the rpms these guys are in? this isnt a race, its them dickin around on a beach. those motors are at LOW RPM. they sound like there not getting past 6k.

  • Gearing on the kx 500 is too short. The late 500's are geared for track racing. My yz 490 2-stroke is wide and so is dustry abbot and his team of kx 500 desert racers. 140mph+ no joke. That's just too fast in the dirt. Hope to accomplish that 1 day...

  • The KX500 was suppossed to win, its got more displacement and its a 2 stroke. Gearing, fuel, or something isn't right in this scenario. Two strokes are still better, we're still racing 125's with 250F's and 250R's with 450F's and so on. Green means go

    Will not beleive the 450CRF is faster than a 500KX... otherwise that would mean i could be the KX 500 for top speed!

  • Just A Tip! The KX500 in this video is running too rich, if you lean it out and replace the back sprocket with two tooth smaller sprocket- You will cut down on your take off speed a little but, your over speed will be greater and should smoke the 4 stroke every time!!!!!

  • ok my dads 1995 kx 500 tops out at 135.09 on a dyno and 138 on street in mph and the reason the 450 beat it on this video was because it weighs almost 80lbs heavier and on sand with dirt tires weight sure makes a difference and @Blackbird3838 my 2001 kx250 go's 100 mph they honestly dont make a 4 stroke that can compete with a 500 cc 2 stroke thumbs up if u agree and no i'm not a honda hater.. ima yamaha hater

  • the new 450's are fast on top end, its unbelievable, and a big part is how your break them in, i gotta 2011 450, and so does my buddy his tops out at 80, and mine will touch around 103. break em in how you ride em :)

  • @Frets0nFirePhenom yea but its possible to make there top speeds the same, then there acceleration on the sand would be closer. the 500 is a 2 stroke and 2 strokes are a lot quicker so it won in the beggining but then the 450 caught up in the long run cause it either had a higher top speed or was geared taller.
