Here again in california this gun holster mount is illegal. You can't have any gun inside your car only in the truck.Damn i need to move in another state.
Make sure you can draw the handgun and not have it get caught on the steering wheel when you go to defend against a car jacker who is at the divers door...I have seen people practice this from various holsters and it always seemsto be a problem due t the fact that the wheel is really in the way.
my dads in a motorcycle club, and i will be too most likely, so from what you can tell, do you think there would be any problems from mounting one of these on a harley?
I would not use that cover. That cover alone is what gonna attract a thieve. Most people that break into cars are petty thieves and like to steal stuff that's not traceable and sell to pawn shops and CDs are one the main things they go for and that cover looks like a cd book. I like the product. I just lock the holster in my center console when I leave the car.
That is quite a nifty setup sootch, looks secure. I think that it might give LE a bit of a pucker during traffic stops, but nothing so severe that it should sway one from purchase.
I heard their was a new kind of wood stock out for the SKS-56 do you know any thing about them?? Could you do a Vid on them please.let me know? thank you By the way your reviews are very good. You could do it for a liveing ??

I like this system. I see a lot of mounting possibilties. You can mount that in the car, under a desk, behind a book shelf, in the bathroom, and I am sure in many other locations. The price is not nothing, but they are also not gouging us by any means. I am sure I will be picking up a few of these. I am tire of having to make my own custom mounts.
Wow Sootch, ur draining my wallet! Gotta have one of these too! I actually have one of these holsters, black, with the adjustable velcro and restraining strap, very lightweight and perfect...and now to see that they've come up with a metal securing system built into it..I'm already sold on the holster, I've had it for years, so I know this system will work 100%, and affordable too. thanks for another one!
@frankgon4 Oh there well trained, in Communist California we have Police Chiefs like Ken James & The LAPD Academy who teach that guns are a threat no matter who has them. I'm sure you have seen all the videos of the LAPD violating the public or shooting an unarmed person. There well train on how to protect themselves not the public.
First off, nice face fuzz! Ok, I live in Tn and have a carry permit, I don't like to go anywhere without my pistol. I don't leave it in the car when I go in the grocery store, or anywhere else that doesn't disallow firearms. Generally I wear some form of cargo pants, preferably BDUs because of their comfort, so when I'm in the car I put my holster in my cargo pocket and its easily accessable. Of course I may end up getting this system just for ease of reach, and just swap when I get in and out.
That looks like a great mount. I would not leave my gun in the car with the gun rug zipped over it for any reason. NO way. Criminals will spot that in a second when casing the car for a smash and grab, or steal the whole shebang with the gun being a bonus. I've been thinking about getting one of those things for a while. I'd put a small blanket over the whole seat and let it go over the gun to cover it while driving in my state. Thanks for the info.
I like how it looks with that cover on it. Anybody walking by the car who happens to glance in would probably think that's nothing more than a CD case shoved between the seats.
Bad fuckin Ass sootch!!! thanks for showing. i just need to wait a year,(im 20) and get a pistol. And a car, Ha Ha HA HA!!!! Im digging the facial hair by the way!!!
my state has no carry laws, had a mercedes, sold it when i got my smart, smarts have two "coves" on either side of the speedometer, i can put my P3AT in either side and toss a paper napkin over it, smart cars are really smart! :)
my corolla had a nice door in the center the i could just pop open and its a storage box in the center under the radio for easy quick access. my new car doesnt have any large compartments like that under the radio. center console is obviously awkward.
Thanks for the review Sootch, seen these holster systems before and thought they looked kinda chinsy, turns out they're pretty good! Also, I always took you as kind of a truck guy!
@NESurvivalPrep Depends on your state man. In my state, you must have a conceal carry permit in order to have a loaded gun in your car. In some states, your car is an extension of your home and you can have a loaded gun in your vehicle without a ccw. Call your police dept for more info...or search google.
I already know my state laws. You can have a loaded pistol in the car if you have a permit, which I do.
My question was more towards if mounting the holster without the cover in your car still counted as concealed carry in the car since it is out in the open.
My guess would be no, but with the cover it would be concealed.
Would you need a conceal carry permit to have one of those in your car? Like if it's just under or beside the steering wheel is it still considered concealed? I wonder if you would get in trouble for something like that. (I know you shouldn't get in trouble, but nowadays you never know.)
@longboards4josh ; Yes. In NC & SC, that would be considered concealed. You would need a Carry Permit. You can have a loaded weapon in your car, but it needs to be completely visible to cops. Basically that would mean on the dashboard, maybe hanging from your rear view mirror.......L0L
South Carolina: Permitless Carry/"Constitutional" Carry legislation proposed
A House panel on Thursday will take up a bill that would allow anyone who can legally own a firearm in the state to carry a concealed weapon without a permit.
@blackhatch46 check out House Bill 3292 there working on alot of reform and it was actually on the floor yesterday but requires technical changes so honoring other states ccw looks promising
@tehsypher That's great here in AZ they did it and there were no problems. However i still advocate every one to get more advanced training when ever possible.
I bought a blackhawk CQC serpa after your refiew of it. I am thinking about screwing it to a piece of wood and placing that in my center console of my car(a nice deep bin). Also thought of using a similar setup to put my glock 22 in my nightstand. Pull out the drawer and have my pistol right there.
Pretty awesome setup. Been looking for some way of mounting a holster in my girlfriend's Pontiac Aztek where it's secure and easily accessible without being in the way of anything. Was gonna go the route of looping a nylon belt through the seat and keeping a holster between the knees, but this looks like a much more convenient deal - don't have to worry about snagging it on the back of my knees this way when getting in or out. Thanks for the info!
I love your vids. This product does what it's intended to do very well but nothing beats just carrying your pistol on your belt. Who wan't to be screwing around with gun covers or possibly forgetting it in the car. I could see this being a good product for shop owners who keep a gun in their store under the counter but that's about it.
These would be an excellent way to utilize what I think the Taurus Judge is good for: defense from someone trying to get into your car and at you. That gun fills up a car window and the man right outside it very well. I'm just amazed at how well that holster would assist that.
is cool but that concealment wont work anyone who looks in will see that will think something of value is there best thing would be to removed every time
What if you get pulled over and when the officer walks up and shines a flashlight in and see that gun next to your lap? I can see where this can potentially spook him and he'll probably make you step out of the car it's a nice rig but I'd probably put a little more out of sight. The first place you fastened it to looked better.
@Pinggong272 - Here in Texas, where it's legal for anyone to carry a gun in their car, it's not a problem. As a matter of fact it's supposed to be somewhat concealed. If it's at night, I turn on the dome light. Then turn off the car, and put both hands on the steering wheel and wait. As soon as he gets up to me I tell him a loaded gun is in the car, where it's at, and ask him if he wants me to get out of the car or whatever makes him comfortable. I haven't gotten a ticket since doing this.
That's a great option for the car or elsewhere. I wouldn't mind having one for use while I'm in NV. Thanks for sharing this video with us. LONG LIVE THE REPUBLIC!
I thought guns need to be unloaded and locked when driving through a school zone (1000 feet from the perimiter of a K-12 school). Gun free school zone act 1995. Its a Federal act.
@highoctaneman2 The act is very flawed, and poorly written. In sections, it allows you to carry with a permit, then it disallows a firearm at all. It also bans a sizable chunk of the population from owning a firearm, which is unconstitutional in itself.
Sootch, Nice mount but I can't believe you drilled your Mercedes. Great information and presentation and I have a suggestion for you and everyone else who might be interested. Check out Gumcreekcustoms and look at their "vehicle handgun mount". No drilling needed.
Sootch... I love the set up! I am from Pickens SC and I have my SC ccw and then moved to OH and had to get it again up here and in both states as ccw holders you would need the zipper case to be legal. Very well thought out design and GREAT review!
pretty sure cover option would be On or Off. Not something that would realistically put on to go into store. Long term, regular storage in vehicle is a challenge..I have found that a walmart airsoft holster with the velcro spreadout and slapped on the back of my truck seat is very effective. Way out of sight and very easy access. I like the grassburr setup for under desk or pantry. Or as wife calls it "The Oatmeal Gun". Thanks for the vid Sootch
Most larger vehicles have a fair amount of room under the dash. This could be mounted under the dash horizontal, grip towards you of course and it would still be just as accessible yet be largely concealed. Especially by someone just looking in the window. Thieves strolling through the parking lot looking for something valuable in plain sight. I could see leaving it in place if it was really hard to see from the outside. Best of both worlds. Easy access and almost completely hidden.
I like that mounting system. I don't like the cover. It screams "break into this vehicle there may be a gun mounted here". Just leaving the empty holster mounted in plain view might be enough to tempt a break in to check the glove box. Florida's laws would probably not prohibit that mount within reach of the driver or passenger because Florida law states 'securely encased and not in the person’s manual possession" (the requirement. for people without CC permit). Securely encased= snapped holster
@CrypticCRICKET You are correct that this system is technically legal without a permit in Florida if the holster is snapped or inside the enclosed zipper case. I say technically because if you should for whatever reason get pulled over for anything this setup will likely complicate the stop and make a law enforcement officer very uncomfortable. That mounting position is also visible to other motorists and people walking by the car, which isn't good in my opinion.
Nice idea. Thanks for showing. That cover, you have to admit, is pretty obvious. Maybe in Canada you might get away with it, 'cause nobody carries a gun up here. Most choose to be herded sheep. But that's another topic.
Sootch! Found you through TNP and I like your videos. I've been trying to figure out a way to carry my gun in my car aside from in the glove box and I think this might just be what I've been looking for. There's a spot for this that seems just about perfect in my car. Thanks for another great video!
@irishScott2 ok, yes I'm exaggerating to make a point. No the average cop isn't going to act like a roid head. And yes typical white males aren't the ones who get treated like that. However even adult white males get murdered by cops. Recent one in Vegas was the guy at the summerlin home depot. Open carry incident type thing. Forgot name-google shooting at Vegas home depot etc. The coroners inquest always gives the cops a pass around here.
@bpjh4535 So a patrolman on a routine traffic stop is going to commit murder just because he sees a holstered gun? Let alone if you have a permit? Please. Logic aside, in my experience the police brutality cases are the minority in most areas and all of my encounters with cops so far have been fine (one even knocked the ticket down a notch for me).
Then again, I'm a respectable looking white male in my 20s, so maybe I just don't attract the kind of attention you're talking about.
I love the keyboard commandos belly-aching about what would happen in a traffic stop where they are from. Let him worry about himself and you worry about yourselves. FYI, it wouldn't be a problem here in AZ.
@Waverip11 I wouldn't be. If open car carry is legal in your state (or your CCW permits car carry) there's nothing the cop can legally do unless you're stupid enough to draw it.
@irishScott2..Yes i know but i like to stay under the radar. I do not want hassled. I have a concealed permit and like to keep it that way. I respect your opinion. Just not for me.
@TheTactical6string yep, arizona it would be legal too. even for tourists coming in out of state as long as they're 18 i believe. could be wrong about that, but i looked up the laws last time i went to arizona and couldnt find anything saying you couldnt.
You are nuts! If a cop stopped you around here(Vegas) and saw a exposed gun they'd probably freak out and start shooting. Gun! He's got a gun! Whooooaaa! Roid rage! Roid rage! Keep weapons concealed...dummy.
@bpjh4535 No offense, but I don't know the cops you're talking about. I've had a few conversations with cops outside of a traffic stop situation with my AR-15 leaning on the seat from the floor of the passenger side and a holstered gun on my hip. No problems for me. To each their own.
@bpjh4535 i had my handgun mounted like that for 8 years. never once had an issue when i was pulled over. dont confuse the way you would react to the way a trained professional would act.
that is an awesome system...love it...also i agree the second mount in your car was much more user friendly and possibly safer because it does not get in the way of your leg while driving....thanks for showing this...

I hope you removed the ashtray to make sure that you weren't running a screw into the harness.

These would be an excellent way to utilize what I think the Taurus Judge is good for: defense from someone trying to get into your car and at you. That gun fills up a car window and the man right outside it very well. I'm just amazed at how well that holster would assist that.

I've got a basketweave holster I've been meaning to mount up in my truck. Maybe I'll do that soon.
smttysmth02gt 1 year ago
Only downside to the cover is it requires you to remove the mount each time...
did you consider the "quickdraw gun magnet?" supposedly it can hole 15lbs of weight and since that glock hardly weighs 2...
JAndersonIV 1 year ago
is cool but that concealment wont work anyone who looks in will see that will think something of value is there best thing would be to removed every time

@CookenWithKilla Used mine for 1 1/2 years - no problems.
frankgon4 1 year ago
What if you get pulled over and when the officer walks up and shines a flashlight in and see that gun next to your lap? I can see where this can potentially spook him and he'll probably make you step out of the car it's a nice rig but I'd probably put a little more out of sight. The first place you fastened it to looked better.
Pinggong272 1 year ago
@Pinggong272 - Here in Texas, where it's legal for anyone to carry a gun in their car, it's not a problem. As a matter of fact it's supposed to be somewhat concealed. If it's at night, I turn on the dome light. Then turn off the car, and put both hands on the steering wheel and wait. As soon as he gets up to me I tell him a loaded gun is in the car, where it's at, and ask him if he wants me to get out of the car or whatever makes him comfortable. I haven't gotten a ticket since doing this.

Just for general info, if anyone is driving through Ohio, using this system without the cover would be a big no no.
22bucki 1 year ago
That's a great option for the car or elsewhere. I wouldn't mind having one for use while I'm in NV. Thanks for sharing this video with us. LONG LIVE THE REPUBLIC!

I thought guns need to be unloaded and locked when driving through a school zone (1000 feet from the perimiter of a K-12 school). Gun free school zone act 1995. Its a Federal act.
highoctaneman2 1 year ago
@highoctaneman2 The act is very flawed, and poorly written. In sections, it allows you to carry with a permit, then it disallows a firearm at all. It also bans a sizable chunk of the population from owning a firearm, which is unconstitutional in itself.

Sootch, Nice mount but I can't believe you drilled your Mercedes. Great information and presentation and I have a suggestion for you and everyone else who might be interested. Check out Gumcreekcustoms and look at their "vehicle handgun mount". No drilling needed.
chrizzis77 1 year ago
Sootch... I love the set up! I am from Pickens SC and I have my SC ccw and then moved to OH and had to get it again up here and in both states as ccw holders you would need the zipper case to be legal. Very well thought out design and GREAT review!
usmccampbell23 1 year ago
pretty sure cover option would be On or Off.

Easy access and almost completely hidden.
bpjh4535 1 year ago
@bpjh4535 That is how I mount mine
frankgon4 1 year ago
I like that mounting system. I don't like the cover. It screams "break into this vehicle there may be a gun mounted here". Just leaving the empty holster mounted in plain view might be enough to tempt a break in to check the glove box. Florida's laws would probably not prohibit that mount within reach of the driver or passenger because Florida law states 'securely encased and not in the person’s manual possession" (the requirement. for people without CC permit). Securely encased= snapped holster
CrypticCRICKET 1 year ago
@CrypticCRICKET You are correct that this system is technically legal without a permit in Florida if the holster is snapped or inside the enclosed zipper case. I say technically because if you should for whatever reason get pulled over for anything this setup will likely complicate the stop and make a law enforcement officer very uncomfortable. That mounting position is also visible to other motorists and people walking by the car, which isn't good in my opinion.

Smart and practical. The cover is a neat idea too...
Cooper02 1 year ago

Cant do jack? Let me give you a clue-they do. Don't give predatory types a reason to prey on you. Whether they wear uniforms or baggy pants etc
bpjh4535 1 year ago
You guys live in a dream world. Search "police brutality" if you think cops don't routinely exceed their "legal authority ". Can't do jack.
bpjh4535 1 year ago
@bpjh4535 So a patrolman on a routine traffic stop is going to commit murder just because he sees a holstered gun? Let alone if you have a permit? Please. Logic aside, in my experience the police brutality cases are the minority in most areas and all of my encounters with cops so far have been fine (one even knocked the ticket down a notch for me).
Then again, I'm a respectable looking white male in my 20s, so maybe I just don't attract the kind of attention you're talking about.

good video. also nice goatee Don.

I love the keyboard commandos belly-aching about what would happen in a traffic stop where they are from. Let him worry about himself and you worry about yourselves. FYI, it wouldn't be a problem here in AZ.

Its a great concept but i agree with bpjh4535. I would be worried about a traffic stop. Maybe you could use it in New Hampshire.
Waverip11 1 year ago
@Waverip11 I wouldn't be. If open car carry is legal in your state (or your CCW permits car carry) there's nothing the cop can legally do unless you're stupid enough to draw it.
irishScott2 1 year ago
@irishScott2..Yes i know but i like to stay under the radar. I do not want hassled. I have a concealed permit and like to keep it that way. I respect your opinion. Just not for me.
Waverip11 1 year ago
@Waverip11 To each their own, didn't mean to offend. Just pointing out that IMHO the odds of police brutality over something like this are slim.
irishScott2 1 year ago
@Waverip11 Wouldn't even need a permit to do this in NH. I like it, plus its not for every day use but a nice option to have available.
TheTactical6string 1 year ago
@TheTactical6string yep, arizona it would be legal too. even for tourists coming in out of state as long as they're 18 i believe. could be wrong about that, but i looked up the laws last time i went to arizona and couldnt find anything saying you couldnt.
Ronald3570 1 year ago
You are nuts! If a cop stopped you around here(Vegas) and saw a exposed gun they'd probably freak out and start shooting. Gun! He's got a gun! Whooooaaa! Roid rage! Roid rage! Keep weapons concealed...dummy.
bpjh4535 1 year ago
@bpjh4535 And they'd be guilty of murder. I don't know what the laws for Los Vegas are, but if it's legal they can't do jack.
irishScott2 1 year ago
@bpjh4535 No offense, but I don't know the cops you're talking about. I've had a few conversations with cops outside of a traffic stop situation with my AR-15 leaning on the seat from the floor of the passenger side and a holstered gun on my hip. No problems for me. To each their own.
parrotheadlasvegas 1 year ago
@bpjh4535 i had my handgun mounted like that for 8 years. never once had an issue when i was pulled over. dont confuse the way you would react to the way a trained professional would act.
