  • There is such purity and quality to his voice.

  • Great song! There are only 2 kinds of music, good and bad, and you can't discuss taste. Sadly though many very talented artists sell their souls to an industry that is only motivated by profit. I disagree with the comments stating there isn't any good music today, you all just haven't been looking in the right place. Music has evolved incredibly in the last 30 years, for an example, take a look at my 'amazing guitar' playlist, open minded people will not regret it.

  • .....real musicians will appreciate this band ~ posers will not. Real music afficionado's can find brilliance in every genre of music. Those with limited sonic IQ's will only lock on to one style and proclaim it above all others as the only music worthy of being created and listened to. Example: there's only two kinds of music, "country & western." LOL

  • @waveryder74 You said it!! I can't stand those close minded people, and it's obvious it's all about keeping up their 'tough guy' persona. It just proves that age rarely equals maturity.

  • My favorite Styx song

  • This band brings back such great memories! LOVE LOVE LOVE them! I used to rock to them in the late 70's & the 80's and now my young adult kids rock to them and many other bands from that era. LOVE it!

  • The only Styx song that gets me choked up.

  • love this

  • Kubiszew - Wolnosc nie zna granic .

  • Styx "Grand Illusion" was the other dude. Dennis de whatever..... my opinion.

  • @lsmjan Yeah - Unfortunately he thought so too (and his name was Dennis De Young) - Any true Styx fan knows it was the combination of all their talents that made them great - you obviosly don't know shit about them since this was from Crystal Ball not Grand Illusion so really your opinion means less then zero....

  • this makes me cry

  • Tommy Shaw was singing with his soul, it's so amazing.

  • its my childhood thank u for posting it

  • *sigh* I'm growing tired of people hating on new artists. Live and let live, ya yknow? Some people hate styx and they don't go all over the internet to try and start revolutions about hating this band. So love your music, and let others love THEIR music.

  • @GhostsInMyAttic

You can have your opinion. Never said you couldn't.

That's exactly what I'm saying, some people have other kind of opinions...like loving chris brown (please learn to type names correctly).

I don't like him, but some people do. Please don't be rude by the way.

All I'm saying is to stop telling others that their music is ''crap'' like you said.

Some people hate styx. so what? they have their rights as much as you have yours!

  • Comment removed

  • @GhostsInMyAttic

Indeed, and so will I. so respect my point of view, I respect yours.

  • @Naessly Thanks you have a good evening =]

  • @GhostsInMyAttic

    You do too :)

  • @GhostsInMyAttic

And you know, I don't think we can compare today's music to older music. Styx and today's music are compleeetely different.

  • @Naessly I agree and I am so tired of the junk coming out today.

    Cheers =]

  • I always love this song - it's just so perfect!

  • I USE TO THINK..EVERYTHING WAS FINE

ALL ALONE AN TRAPT IN TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    THE 70's SHALL LIVE FOREVER!

    oxox

  • It's so great that you have an appreciation for real artists, and real music. Ignore comments from intellectually challenged fools like aleafonthewind, you sound like you're already a mover n shaker. Change the world if you want to!!

  • 0:00 yer welcome

  • mmm just for info purposes, tommy sings this one...

  • @mrchaserman34 one thing about lady gaga and baseball...one of 2 jobs u can scratch your nuts and nobody say a word

  • i LIKE THE SONG.. BUT HE SOUNDS LOST.. AND SADD.

  • One of the greatest jams in recorded history. When I was young, I got ragged on for being a Styx fan. All that happened was the addition of some Floyd, Zep, and Sabbath - go rag!

I'm more of a Tommy Shaw fan than a Dennis DeYoung fan, however... DeYoung... got senile. :p

  • @ borntrippin, Lay off the ACID Morron, STYX has always played GREAT Music, if YOU werent so busy burning out what little brain cells you have you'd realize that!

  • Memories of the 70's......all good!

Love Styx ......so glad to have had their music in my life back then! : )

  • Yes this was and still is great, sixteen in 76! Sadly like most bands they went on later to play musical mush for the masses!

  • i'm a 2 year old hamster, and this is my favorite song

  • Im Elevendy yers old

  • @mandito1900 me 2 lol

  • wonderful.....beautiful music.....ah yes the 70's were great for music.....

  • I too missed this part of the music era. I hate all the gods for it. No one tries this anymore. telling a story is as obtuse as spelling anymore.

  • growing up in the 70 & 80 mtv was cool, and so were the bands timeless. spring break on ft lauderdale beach driving a 1967 pontiac firebird playing from styx to van halen best years.

  • I'd forgotten how beautiful their music could be & their harmonies are some of the best.

  • hahahaha the string on the end of the lettering makes it look like "crystal balls"

  • Kubiszew :D !!!

  • Saw Styx last night at the Fallsview Casino. So sick! There music is from before my time, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. They played this song last night and it is my new favourite song by them. My number one is "Too Much Time On My Hands", love the intro to that song! Who says a "young man" whom listens to melodic death metal can't enjoy old bands from before his time like Styx?

  • @purestaticity to much time is overplayed they have so much better music I realize you are alot younger than me start with greatest hits .You will like alot of that Im near Bristol Tenn and am seeing them next saturday Nov 5 iI got second row seats.Where is Fallsview?

  • @MultiMetalgod Fallsview is in Niagara Falls, Canada. They always have older bands coming to perform. My parents usually try to drag me to it, lol.

  • Thanks a lot for uploading this! I´m trying to recover my old music collection and I had this album on a cassette that is now broken. Now i have it again, thanks to You and YouTube! And the great program DVD Videosoft Free Studio (OBS! Commerclial!) :-)

  • What has to be wrong with your soul to "dislike" this song??

  • Think the dislikes do not have a crystal ball and they are stuck with a magic 8 ball.

  • Tell Me, Tell Me, AMAZING song ...what memories!!!

  • doughnuts in the ad screen =]

  • This is the Styx that I know and love, too bad Dennis Deyoung's ego got in the way of the band later on in their career

  • Got to see them open for Aerosmith on Grand Illusion Tour

  • @LabelBob How was Aerosmith at the Grand Illusion Tour? I know that was the beginning of their declining period

  • @Doobie1975 Not good that was '77 I believe and the"Draw The Line" tour, Styx was way way better, I saw the very bottom for Tyler and Co too in Worcester at the Centrum, Steven walked over to a roadie, fell onto the guy and they carried him off, lights up shows over folks you don't have to go home but you can't stay here.

  • @LabelBob I know the majority of Aerosmith's live shows from the late 70s were really bad cause both Steven Tyler and Joe Perry were strung out on dope during that time

  • @Doobie1975 That may be but more than one of my friends have said that Aerosmith live today is an awesome performance.

  • @SequentiallyCompact I do hear that Aerosmith's shows from the Pernament Vacation era onward is much better than their previous performances

  • I'm so happy I grew up in an era where the music is music and not what it is today. Styx is one hell of a band.

  • @mpsis65 Me too ! I

  • @mpsis65 styx is so under looked at they are probly one of the Greatest bands in history and make amazing music their very talented

  • @ThePremiumsolo Under looked? Did you mean over looked? They had 3 Multi Platinum albums in a row, No other band in the history of the world has done that not Elvis Not the Beatles Not the Stones Not Michael Jackson, I would say they were very well recognized and reaped the rewards.

Not to mention hundreds of sold out shows, Trust me they got their due and more.

  • @mpsis65

    Your very lucky -.-

  • Kubiszew - Wolność nie zna granic!

  • @seki1201 i agree

  • Tommy's absolutely awesome debut with the band.

  • yea, the 70s!! class of 74 here and those times were very sweet. had it made. 66 mustang and a 72 kawasaki 500. God, thank you for letting me live thru them.

  • @svo65

'68 Dart GTS and Z-1 back then.

    Rock on!

  • @EdWatts yea!

  • Just saw them perform live tonight and they ROCKED! 7-29-2011

  • 60s great, 70s amazing, 80s awesome, 90s... wtf?

  • @Opaquefire00 Got that right. Music died in the early '90s when rap/hip hop and alternative became mainstream. And never changed the past 20 years. Pathetic.

  • I was a teen in the 70s as well... it really was a great time! Music was awesome... except for Disco!!!

  • The 70s were the best times, I was in my teens I had my 65 Ford Custom Coup a Street bike a dirt bike and a girl. The rest was music, man i wish I was there! Styx takes me back every time!

  • LIKE YOUR PAGE!

    album setup is great

  • Thumbs up for 1972

  • @KristyMusicLoren this album was'76 but '72 was a crankin year

  • MrDosanders......i did........what an incredible era for music!!!!! 1970's and 1980's were incredible for REAL music.....WOW!

  • God i wish i grew up in the 70's

  • @MrDosanders i did and i barely remember it cuz i was high all the time...im sure your wouldn't remember much either if you were around then too ; ) but man the bands! THE BANDS!!! good times for sure..i miss the 70's

  • @wooohoo2 YEAH BUT CMON YOU WERENT THAT F$%^#&D UP WERE YOU??? OH...SOUTH SIDE

  • just saw styx saturday. they are touring with yes. amazing concert, the crowd went fucking nuts when they played this song

  • If you don't like something, don't even start thinking on it

  • @pappysmp Words to live by.

    Love your homepage

  • LOOK,AT,YOUTUBE:KubiszeW-WOLNOŚĆ,NIE,zna,granic

  • Who in gods name is the tard who voted this song/group down? What a tool!

  • bearodell, your dad had great taste. it's my favourite song too and might even have met him at a Styx gig! Hang in there

  • I hate modern lady gaga and t-pain who have no talent and only sound good because of auto-tune. People say the black eyed peas sounded bad at the super bowl because of technical errors. Why would that effect them? AUTOTUNE!!! I'm 11 years old, and this is my favorite band. Thums up tis comment, thumbs up the video, favorite it, copy and paste this on other songs like this so together, we can take over the internet and spam t-pain with comments like this. (p.s. STYX forever!)

  • @mrchaserman34 Only if there are far more young listeners like you today. All this trashy music - rap/hip hop and alternative music would be dead then if far less go to their concerts and buy albums. It would start a new revolution to bring back the great and pure sound of rock-n-roll. It had to end sooner or later. I cannot see this go on another 20 years!

  • @mrchaserman34 You're too smart to be eleven. I'm 43, it's yer bedtime. Kidding. :D

  • @mrchaserman34 Good luck taking over the internet. Dumb***.

  • @aleafonthewind117 Your a foolish SOB. He could very well get enough people to help him spam t-pain. You are an idiot. This 11 year old obviously has an IQ 10 times higher than yours. a leaf in the wind? More like an empty skull in the wind.

  • @aleafonthewind117 BTW freedom of speech and the internet are powerful tools for bringing about change. Just cuz you spent your life blowing in the wind like a freakin' tumbleweed doesn't give you the right to criticize someone who actually wants to make an impact on life. You're also dumber than a box of rocks for misinterpreting what he said. He's not trying to take over the internet, he's trying to use it to bring about change. How does it feel to be dumber than an 11 year old.

  • @calamityjane131 Calm down. I was simply commenting on the fact that nobody can "take over the internet", and was ridiculing that 11 year-old's wording. If I've misinterpreted his statement, I apologize--but to him, not you.

I completely agree with you that the Internet is powerful, and it can bring about change. However, the internet is nobody's tool, and I, along with the rest of Anonymous, will fight to keep it that way.

Also, don't criticize handles. They are not a reflection of character.

  • @mrchaserman34 Dude, you have exactly the right attitude to make a great musician. I only respect bands whose members are true virtuosos, and this is certainly one of those bands. Rush being another. These bands would rather have you hear the real deal on-stage, warts and all, but they're so darned good; no warts. Last I saw Styx was Kilroy and they had their arena gear in a smaller music hall and they absolutely rocked! You've got the right attitude. Respect REAL musicians. And be one!

  • @mrchaserman34 I'm posting your comment on FB and gonna try talking talkzillabob into posting it on his websites. Maybe you'll go viral.!!!!!!!

  • my dad's fav song, hes been gone for a year and half and i still cry every time i hear this

  • Seeing them on Sunday with Larry Gowan - Should be seriously cool ;p

  • this is killing me, i want to go back

  • ONE THE BETTER BANDS FROM THE THE 70'S!!!! SEEN IN CONCERT SEVERAL TIMES. GOD-OLE ROCK&ROLL!!!!! MISS THOSE DAYS REAL BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • He who disliked this video is all alone and trapped in time.

  • @Gnilrats23 or trapped in their mothers house still. ive been loving this song since it came out thanks to JOE ANTHONY rock on ! cj sa tx

  • whey time in want, wish, and desire and then rock``~~!

  • Man everyone who watched this video must be die hard fans of Styx 0 dislikes.

  • This is REAL music I'm glad I grew up during this time.

  • @Astraldragon1 me too I was in 6th grade when i bought this ALBUM and have rocked it ever since.....

  • tommy shaw/ styx.........fucking phenomenal!

  • 34 years ago I asked the same question, the deep questions in life!

  • oke juga nih........

  • dj huggy killed this

  • They don't make music like this anymore :(

  • @ksscendyn

What an eloquent critique of people who actually know what a good rock ballad sounds like. I feel better about the future of the nation having read this.......

  • There will never be music produced now as there was back then.

  • You are indeed correct. This circus shit like "usher", Bieber, etc...... is the biggest insult music has going.

  • Styx were a really nice band,But honestly they couldnt pick up anyones in Rush instruments. They had a nice vocal mix with the different singers though.

  • @MrMonkeyman63 your missing the point ...no one in the band can equal Rush's talent ..but that's not the point..it's good music ..isn't that enough...or only great musicians can make music??

  • So many songs of this era ended the song with a "fadeout" or lowering of the volume. I wish I could hear the rest of the guitar jam that was going on there.

  • if you care to make a difference .. take a lighter instead of your cell to the very next concert you goto. then, do me a favor, spark one (:

  • @manofgod30 you sir, speak the word of God

  • James Durbin should do some Styx!!!!!

  • The only band that comes close to RUSH is STYX Ihate you kids missed growin' up in the 70's. It was awesome, sxcept for 8-track tapes

  • The only band that comes close to RUSH is STYX

  • Comment removed

  • I've loved this song since 7th grade! It got me through a tough time when my grandmother passed away...

  • Hey, I remember hearing this when I was a kid my dad played this (he's a big fan of Styx, but his biggest band is Rush) I was surfing and now I'm out of the house I was so glad to here this! It's like being home again, I'm 21 and I find that music today SUCKS so thank GOD we have this, great song.

  • this is some of the greatest music that was ever produced until styx sold out and became a commercial band, but they still beat the shit out of anything produced still till this day on the rock n roll scene. rock n roll started going straight to hell in 1980 and has steadily hit the toilet ever since...

  • wat a great voice, james i think

  • @nakedsnake468 Actually it's Tommy singing this song

  • @StyxFan93 yes it's tommy shaw this is his debut lp with them

  • @StyxFan93 yes this is one of Tommy's songs.

  • @nakedsnake468 Tommy wrote this before he joined the band, if I remember correctly.

  • @nakedsnake468 Yea Tommy in his youthful days. Great--chills down my spine--voice.

  • STYX---"CRYSTAL BALL"

  • styx is the shit

  • @bowtiewins in jesus name i pray for your family & your son

  • CLASSIC !!! it was great being a teen in the 70s

we had our music and fun.

    NO txting ,facbk ,twtr, Xbox

  • @jmac3480 Amen ... kids today are fucking gushed up by there blackberry's

  • @cliffthelightning right on man . whole world is in to much a hurry lets just enjoy what we love and let the rest of this crazy screwed up place enter them selves into a one legged man/ woman ass kickin contest. GOD GO WITH YOU MY BROTHER. PEACE OUT. J.J.D.

  • @jmac3480 ...or vowels.

  • Music back in the day was more artistic and had meaning to the artist. Now music is made for popularity rather than art. Music can be enjoyable and creative.

  • @amsellner Today, popular music is mainly about business. Sad but true.

  • @amsellner your right too much cookie cutter, producer created drivel ! Back in the 70's the quality was so much better . Bands come and go but look at all the legends from the 70's still going.

  • I bought this album for a girl I liked only to find out she already had it 1980 what a bad year for me never did tell her how I felt about her:(

  • I'm planning on learning this song on my guitar someday.

  • STYX----"CRYSTAL BALL"

  • My son was abducted last sunday while overseas, I have no idea where he is and I can't stop listnening to this song....

  • @bowtiewins - My prayers are with you!! I an see how you're drawn to this song!!

  • @bowtiewins oh im so sorry :(

  • What a well written, well rounded song!

  • What an amazing song, piece of music, and album!

  • He wrote this in my hometown of Montgomery, AL and use to perform this song at the Kegler's Kove bowling alley bar there with the band named "Harmony" prior to his joining Styx.

  • the 70s bands were the best

  • Just fantastic !!!!!!

  • the crap out now has nothing on the music from the long ago they dont make 'em like they use to such a wide range of music and talent

  • i heard or read that tommy wrote this song while riding in a limousine to styx's concert when they hired him.

  • @54lex Actually, Tommy wrote this in 1975 in his Mama's kitchen in Montgomery, AL, before he was hired into Styx. He did the rewrite to "Styxify" it while touring in a station wagon during his first tour with Styx. He handed the pages to Dennis as he wrote. The original has a third verse and doesn't have the chorus that you hear now. There are some versions of his original floating around on the Net.

  • I have listened to this everyday for the last 2 mnths.

    I want a Crystal Ball for 2011 !!!!!!!

my heart is breaking, my body aching

There's so many things I need to know............

  • we gotta keep the old tunes alive couse the new is trying to force everybody into submission state of being brainless souless robots.started around 1980s

  • we gotta keep the old tunes alive couse the new is trying to force everybody into submission state of being brainless souless robots.

  • This is such a beautiful song. Styx had something for everyone. Some of the best music of all time.

  • Were the bands really better? (Sounds a lot like my dad back then holding forth that the real music died with rock 'n roll - not a bad thesis, with hindsight). Far's I recall, none of this stuff ever made it to the radio, so it's not fair to compare it to the stuff that is making it to the radio these days. (In the '70's all you heard on the radio was disco. You certainly would never hear say Black Sabbath play Sabotage... and to some ears Styx is "the same" ...)

  • @sickofthewest This and many more were on the radio look up J Geils ELO there is so many things you need to listen to.

  • You forget how great this stuff was until you hear it again after all these years. Tell me, tell me, won't you and then tell me agaiiiin...where is there music like this today? Only in the archive section. Like somebody else posted-corporate processed cheese pus is all we ge
