If you started playing drums in post WWII England on a used broken Red Cross drum set (with a garbage can lid for a cymbal), and are able to get all the way to fame with your best friends, that has to count for something.
holy crap i was there to! the day that was filmed, and the ceramony they declared it ringo starr day(at least in hollywood) it was awsome! so many ppl, WE LOVE YOU RINGO!!
I was at the walk of fame that night when Ringo got his star. I got to see him there. He actually pointed to me when he saw me wave to him during the mayor's speech. I'm glad i got to see Ringo live. He is my childhood hero, he still is today.
"We loved him. And we just thought he was the very best drummer we'd ever seen. And we wanted him in the group. We were big fans of his." -Paul McCartney, Larry King Interview 2007
"Ringo is a damn good drummer. He is not technically good, but I think Ringo's drumming is underrated the same way Paul's bass playing is underrated. I think Paul and Ringo stand up with any of the rock musicians. Not technically great -- none of us are technical musicians. None of us could read music. None of us can write it. But as pure musicians, as inspired humans to make the noise, they are as good as anybody."-John Lennon, Playboy 1980
So not true. He has a lot more talent than you think. Not the best drummer but without him, there would be no Beatles. He was definitely 1 part of a whole. He deserved this star just like John and George before him and Paul in the next year or 2.
"Ringo was a star in his own right in Liverpool before we even met. He was a professional drummer who sang and performed and had Ringo Star-time and he was in one of the top groups in Britain but especially in Liverpool before we even had a drummer. So Ringo's talent would have come out one way or the other as something or other."-John Lennon, Playboy 1980
You can hear a replay of the whole ceremony (yes HEAR it -- with SOUND, what a concept!) on the Beatles Examiner website. There were fabulous tributes from other drummers that were shared by Ben Harper. And Don Was made great comments too.
I, too, was there. A lot more people, it seems, than when George got his star last year. It was a fun evening. For people that are wondering what took so long, there is a lengthy process to getting these. It has to start off, though, with interest followed by enough signatures to even get the thought process going. After that, there has to be a sponsor, or ways to get the money $25,000. Once that is all done, the live person has to schedule it.
They also have to be there or no ceremony will happen. When this is done posthumously, the waiting period to start the process is 5 years AFTER their death. 2 family members have to give their blessings AND be at the ceremony. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce have been screwed after taking the time to process a posthumous star when a family member said no. So now there has to be at least 2 to approve and be at the ceremony. Paul has been approved, star created but he needs to schedule it.
No. Not likely. Paul was there. It was to do with it being webcasted, the first night time installation, and the 50th anniversary of the walk of fame.
I was there! the part i rememberd the most was when some random lady shouted from the audience, " Ringo You look great tonight!" then he said, " Thankyou darling, did you all hear that, she said i look great tonight". Man that lady was lucky.
WHO WENT TO SEE HIM THERE? :D MAN IT ROCKED

Ringo is a human metronome. Great drummer. Just check out comments by Phil Collins (bit of a git but a great drummer himself!).
