@chente222222 Sorry chente, but they never will reunite. Ever. Morrissey has even been quoted to where he'd rather "eat his own testicles than reform the Smiths."
i agree and i know from interviews andy and mike seem together in their views but also andy seems to be a nice guy and i rekon he would go with moz and marr again if they offered
Sorry everyone, but from one day to another, I utterly must jump into the inevitable conclusion: THEY ARE THE BEST BAND EVER!!!!!! SO SAD THAT I wasn't old enough to enjoy their music when ther were so iconic!!!! but they will always be iconic for me!!!!!!
My friends always argue that the Smiths WOULD be good if it wasn't for Morrisseys voice. I wish SOME people still appreciated the most terrific band to ever grace my (and everyone elses) ears. <3
haha what's your actual point here? You're arguing about nothing - you have nothing at stake, so why are you so defensive? Spit in my eye for asking, but you are coming off as the lesser.
Morrissey is a humorist! I don't know what kind of songs you listen to but Morrissey's lyrics make me laugh rather often, he's full of irony. Like Heaven knows I'm miserable now, hilarious! He endlessly mocks himself as a miserable bastard (even the way he sings it over that rock'n'roll guitar lol)
And paint a vulgar picture where the fan murders the idol he loved so much for being a complete moron in real life, I'm sidesplitting really when I listen to his songs.
Hmm, and 'Unloveable' actually laughs at people who bathe in sadness or in the Smiths' time *cough* goths. Those scary people are actually spoken to BY Morrissey (You look like trash) "Yes I know, message received, you don't need to tell me bigmouth.
I wear black on the outside because black is how I feel on the inside (whine)." Lol. Moz is into pink blouses etc, not into styleless black crap :-)
Don't see how people can miss the mockery and keep mistaking his ' I ' as his real sad self.
@Adriansh3r0 I used to brush him off as just a self-pitying emo. But once I started to listen more, I realised all those times I thought he was melodramatic, those lyrics were actually laced with a subtle sense of self mockery, irony and a biting wit. He shares the laconic humour of Wilde in that respect.
Also Johnny's upbeat, energetic guitar contrasts with Morrisey's emotional vocals to create a sort of sarcasm to the music.
@Adriansh3r0 Also I always saw Paint a Vulgar Picture as the fan murdering their idol, so the record companies can't taint him anymore, so he will always remain great.
@alexkx3 Exactly, few people seem to believe that Morrissey's lyrics contain quite a grade of complexity. They seem melodramatic at first but if you look closer, they are very interesting and even shocking sometimes. F.i. 'That joke isn't funny anymore' look good: makes that person pull over, gives him a lecture and... It ends with someone complaining 'Now it's happening in mine!!!' and it isn't the protagonist who's complaining. What happened?
@Adriansh3r0 Morriessey genius to be able to do that, with so little words. His lyrics are extremely sparse, but he crams so much meaning between the lines, it's always more difficult to something well, simply, then to do it in a complex manner. I also like "Hand in glove, the sun shines out of our behind, no it's not like any other love, this one is different because it's ours!". You knoe he's not being 100% serious here. It's laced beautiful with irony and self-mockerey.
this song makes my eyes tear, it's so beautiful...the smiths if the only band in the world that has so many beautifil songs...it is the mixing of morrissey's voice, marr's guitar, rourke's perfect bass line and joyce's drumming that gives you a feeling that can't be described
and if you must go to work tomorrow
well if i were you i really wouldn't bother
for THERE ARE BRIGHTER SIDES TO LIFE AND I SHOULD KNOW BECAUSE I'VE SEEN THEM...OH BUT NOT OFTEN
Yes, I know what an opinion is. And, no, I do not think I'm God, just another person with an opinion. And, I'm sure you have an opinion on my comments so far. Right?
Morrissey IS god. Full stop. There is no heaven or hell, but Morrissey's music touches people like no other. Therefore Morrissey is the nearest thing to God and his words are immortal.
Really can't explain properly how the music of the Smiths makes me feel (of course it is like saying i can't dance a lasagna - words and feelings are quite different languages - if i were to make an approximation i might say..It makes me feel SO good! - life feels intense, alive, questionable, fateful, - the words, the notes, the rhythms and dynamics - One can only really say Thank you - and hope it means something, somewhere, to someone
Heideggar is soo booring like all metaphysics which is completely useless and unprovable.
"Metaphysical knowledge is the most inconsequential of all knowledge, even more inconsequential than the knowledge of the chemical analysis of water must be to the boat man facing a storm" Nietzsche
Live your lives people,a life without love is like a sunless garden.
Heidegger's rebutal was incomplete. Though a cartesian dualism might not be the most consistent model, a form of dualism still offers the best explanation.
Listening to this makes me wish I was born 10 years earlier, The Smiths encapsulate so many emotions that everyone can relate to. Best band of all time.
It had nothing to do with Morrissey's ego, moron. It was all to do with the Smith's ethos - they saw themselves as a pop group not a rock group, even though they played instruments. At least try to learn something from life.
Kissing under an iron bridge..... Them lyrics to me produce a picture of a cold soggy english evening in a very industrialised city, finding a dry place to kiss a young love because everywhere else is too surveyed, with rain beating down on the rusty old bridge above. Infact ive been in the situation myself, bu swap the word kiss for shag, and the word bridge for pier. I can relate so much to The Smiths, that is why they are my favourite band.
under the iron bridge we kissed, and although i ended up with sore lips it just wasn't like the old days anymore, no it wasn't like those old days...am i still ill.
@piafedith10 I don't know which one made me happier, the fact that someone is willing to pay so much attention on my comment or that someone has that great taste.
I agree completely, jhm2277. This is my favorite Smiths song as well. Followed closely by the version of Back to the Old House that appears on Hatful of Hollow.

My opinion is that his opinion is hyperbole. And I'm sure if he felt the way you've stated for him, he would've said so himself.

Or maybe Morrissey's lyrics just have a greater impact on him than they do you. It's really all a matter of opinion.
