I've listened to a lot of very, VERY good video game soundtracks in the last few days (like Bastion and Achron) and I gotta say that in my Top 10 list of favorite video game tracks, THIS is still somewhere up there.
I had heard that Raocow's little lullaby rant had been made into the final boss theme for the 2nd game, and I was thinking, "How exactly would you go about turning a lullaby, of all things, into a final boss theme?" Apparently, this is how. Great job.
@hexbbb There's a pretty great tutorial on SMW central for custom music which covers everything for the most part. If there's something not explained in there, feel free to ask me in a PM!
Also there's no midi, but if you want an mp3 I can make you one :)
So... what kind of funky time signature are you using? Is it like, 3/4 at first and then switching to 4/4 or something? I'm trying to do a cover of it in Famitracker, and I'm having a hell of a time. :V
@WyattCroucher Ah ok... guess I was just overcomplicating it a bit. What I have so far actually fits now! :D Speaking of complicated things, I'm not looking forward to figuring out 0:51 - 1:23. That's gotta be the hardest part of the song.
Where are we? The land is not a friend no more... We must survey the land, and be careful... For you do not know what Lurks behind the walls Except porridge and that's not even true. And so we go carefully Foward in this way. Watch out for the sand castles, They will get in your way Some times there is a roof over your head You do not know Where does the future go, but foward? Where does it go, but backward?
@WyattCroucher I bet it's probably because the tempo is over 100. You can fix it by changing the length of the SPC with an editor like the Winamp SPC Player.
if this is a final boss, they should have you save each time you try to enter the stage, and if you make it to the boss and die, have it so you respawn immediately at the start of the fight without stopping the music. lol i bet you either cant do that at all or it would be pretty tough to set up.
The song in itself just sounds so right and official (unlike a lot of "custom" SMW compositions out there, which sound all over the place and weird), but because the song is emotional, especially since this is the final boss song for A2MT, and feels like it is. This song just screams: "You've got far, and your quest is almost over, so hang in there and beat the final boss!"
You, my friend, are a SMW composer extraordinaire.
Also, what are all the things that the melodies are taken from? I mean, there's the obvious one that every raocow fan remembers, but what about the others?
@WyattCroucher Hmm, I'm not really hearing any raocow in that loop... can you give me a timestamp of when it begins in the original video? watch?v=x25LlloXMaM
I seriously got a little misty-eyed when the "lullaby" came in. Just beautiful, man.

I wonder how Nintendo would react if they saw that their o.k. game was being turned into something as awesome as ASMT and A2MT...

@chinesesmw I think this was the first that anyone had ever done with this specific sprite behavior, so it may not be very well documented.

@MrWeirdGuy At like 8:30, right before the main part. I kinda butchered it like crazy though.
