The world uses the term 'NAZI Germany' to distinguish it from other German periods. Sophie Scholl was an example of German morality/courage. What happened in NAZI Germany could happen so much easier than we like to think. It's vital ALL people study HOW it happened. People like u, who understand the gravity, are needed.

Miért nézed le a saját nemzeted? A magyarok is tudnának profi filmet csinálni annyi pénzből, mint az amerikaiak. De a Holokauszt nem egy hadsereg tragédiája, hanem 11 millió emberé, köztük nőké és gyerekeké. I also got teary eyed. To observe adversity through a teenagers mind is a really neat thing. I noticed how he grew from a carefree boy to a young man.This is one of the most beautiful movies that I have ever seen. The hungarian scenery is stunning.

I've also read the novel (the movie is based on Kertész Imre's novel: Fateless /Sorstalanság/)...if you have the chance to have the book, read it...it will give you the same feeling...
I watched the movie with my school, too and I bought the book a week ago. I read the first two chapters and I felt as I was inside the movie... I can openly say that this movie canged me
I did get a bit teary but it is indeed beautiful. It was a great seeing a different perspective. I find it interesting when he told the guy on the tram that he seen the horror but he got used to it.
In the short period he got used to the life of the camp.
That is what was sad.
I also felt sorry for the smallest boy of the group of friends he had. That was selected for the gas chambers. Especially when u can see in the boy's face of confusion as to why he wasn't with the others.
Hm. I read some more comments. Yes,shooting them in the head or let them fall asleep for ever in the gas cabines is very cruel. But if there'd be a movie about what happened in 61st Andrassy street,Budapest for years,no one would have the stomach to watch it! The communist leaders and their men tortured people from every age and sex just for fun. Visit "House of Terror" at the address I've posted and you'll get it. Ripping people's nails off was just appetizer...
BTW,my only problem is that they act like there weren't anything else (I mean,that bad,etc.) but the Holocaust,although it is a fact,that a lot more people were killed not just because they're jewish,but because they ARE... Of course that wouldn't be that good for the business... Bah. :(

This was a good film. It was well made and the scenery and settings were first rate! It was a little distracting with the constant changing of scenes, no real story line, just a bunch of snippets, and the ending was a bit of a let down. I liked Europa Europa better

Great movie, though I think somebody needs to make a movie about the holocaust depicting the sufferings of the Roma People. They were exterminated at least as brutally as the Jews, yet I find that this sorrowful chapter of history is often hushed to the sidelines.
Anti-Zyganism (Hatred of the Roma) remains a terrible force to be dealt with to this very day, and the Roma are too often marginalized by the film industry.

The Final solution was only part of the genocidal ambitions of the Nazi's. Remember, they wanted a totally German Germany. In Hitlers mind, "Germany" also included Russia.

a Don kanyarban 200 ezres seregből 120 ezren soha nem tértek haza

De a Holokauszt nem egy hadsereg tragédiája, hanem 11 millió emberé, köztük nőké és gyerekeké. A szervezett emberirtás, a faji megkülönböztetés: mind-mind olyan dolog, amelyre emlékezni kell, hogy ne történjen még egyszer ilyesmi a világtörténelemben.

I also got teary eyed. To observe adversity through a teenagers mind is a really neat thing. I noticed how he grew from a carefree boy to a young man.This is one of the most beautiful movies that I have ever seen. The hungarian scenery is stunning.

I think that's the most beautiful film on holocaust I've ever seen, because I could easily get in touch with the protagonist's feelings. It really touched my soul and now I'm sure I won't forget...

Thank you very much...and I deeply agree with you... This movie is just beautiful and moving, I cried in the cinema even tho I watched it with almost the whole high school...(everyone went to watch it with the teachers:-)
I've also read the novel (the movie is based on Kertész Imre's novel: Fateless /Sorstalanság/)...if you have the chance to have the book, read it...it will give you the same feeling...

I did get a bit teary but it is indeed beautiful. It was a great seeing a different perspective. I find it interesting when he told the guy on the tram that he seen the horror but he got used to it.
In the short period he got used to the life of the camp.
That is what was sad.
I also felt sorry for the smallest boy of the group of friends he had. That was selected for the gas chambers. Especially when u can see in the boy's face of confusion as to why he wasn't with the others.

Hm. I read some more comments. Yes,shooting them in the head or let them fall asleep for ever in the gas cabines is very cruel. But if there'd be a movie about what happened in 61st Andrassy street,Budapest for years,no one would have the stomach to watch it! The communist leaders and their men tortured people from every age and sex just for fun. Visit "House of Terror" at the address I've posted and you'll get it. BTW,my only problem is that they act like there weren't anything else (I mean,that bad,etc.) but the Holocaust,although it is a fact,that a lot more people were killed not just because they're jewish,but because they ARE... Of course that wouldn't be that good for the business... Bah. :(

This was a good film. It was well made and the scenery and settings were first rate! It was a little distracting with the constant changing of scenes, no real story line, just a bunch of snippets, and the ending was a bit of a let down. I liked Europa Europa better

It was a little distracting, but I think it only captured the true nature of the Holocaust--scattered, disorganized, lack of story line--and showed just what a horrid thing it was. We're watching it in my history class right now, and it's incredibly captivating; it captures the true essence of wickedness.

I watched this, and as far as the special features of the dvd goes, it is a true story. One of the best films ever made, it still holds a special place in my heart, as it is not only touching, but inspiring. Loved It.

Great movie, though I think somebody needs to make a movie about the holocaust depicting the sufferings of the Roma People. They were exterminated at least as brutally as the Jews, yet I find that this sorrowful chapter of history is often hushed to the sidelines.
Anti-Zyganism (Hatred of the Roma) remains a terrible force to be dealt with to this very day, and the Roma are too often marginalized by the film industry.

The numbers of the Roma who died in the Holocaust are harder to calculate, but it is believed to be between 1 and 2 million. And yes, they were systematically exterminated. In many cases the guards shot them after they got off the trains as they were seen by the Nazi's as being unfit even for slave labour.
The Final solution was only part of the genocidal ambitions of the Nazi's. Remember, they wanted a totally German Germany. In Hitlers mind, "Germany" also included Russia.
