Mitt Romney on Huckabee's Pardon of Maurice Clemmons

Mitt never made a decision a leader would make. Instead, he automatically rejected any pardon requests that came across his desk. Now, tell me....if you were really doing your job, don't you think you just might find one or two cases that were unfair? I think MITT had presidential ambitions when he ran for Gov. and he was thinking about that ambition with every decision he made as Gov. Well, maybe not when he came up with Romneycare....

Mitt Romney, you have just shown that you are not fit to be President. Pardons and commutations are a vital part of checks and balances. You don't understand how our government works. You fail.

The parole board recommended a commutation for Clemmons by a vote of 5-0, as did the JUDGE, which is extremely rare.

The real failure is the two judges in Washington who posted $15,000 bail for a psychotic child rapist.

If Huckabee cared less for himself and more for the GOP, he would have backed out of the race for nominee last year. Instead, he couldn't stand being behind the polls to a "Mormon"... even less losing half of the evangelical vote because they new Romney was the much better candidate.

Romney is a class act, but it is important to note that Huckabee did not pardon Clemmons for the rap sheet we hear about in the news (child rape, cop killing) but rather many years earlier granted clemency to cut a 108 year sentence for non violent burglary down to 46 years making Clemmons parole eligible.

Still just the fact that he pardoned any part of that criminals sentence is just ridiculous... I'm sure in the whole state there were many more "non violent burglaries" where the person didn't murder multiple innocent people that could have been pardoned. How does Huckabee even look in the mirror? He should stick to the bass guitar and preaching because he is a joke as a politician.

Yep, you confirm you are an idiot. When Huckabee granted this guy clemency he was not a killer, so he should not have been frying in an electric chair. Justice is determined by what has happened and not what might happen.

Clemmons had multiple sentences for multiple crimes, a number of which were being served concurrently. There were so many of them, they added up to 108 years.

Multiple counts of robbery, burglary, theft, aggravated robbery and firearm possession for bringing a gun to school.

Clemmons committed crimes while on probation, which is itself a serious crime.

Prior to Huckabee commuting Clemmons' sentence, Clemmons already had a history of violence directed at officers of the law. One of the charges against him was breaking into the home of an officer and stealing that officer's gun. Within the criminal justice system, he threw a padlock at a court bailiff, but missed. He hid a piece of metal in his sock to use in the courtroom as a weapon and he threatened the judge, all of which factored into the decision to run some of the sentences consecutively.

Most disturbingly, not only did Clemmons commit crimes while on probation (resulting in the probation being revoked), he tried to grab a gun from a guard while being escorted to a courtroom, in a possible escape attempt.

How many officers was he planning to shoot with that gun?

Did Huckabee assume Clemmons had no plans for the gun but wanted a souvenir?

Romney says he was an independent, but wasn't even in politics during Reagan-Bush. He was heading Bain. He posed as a Republican, but as that video shows, was trying to be more liberal than Ted Kennedy. He was a RINO. He decided that he was a Republican in 2008. What a fraud.

Romney said the Boy Scouts have a right to set their own policies even though he thinks gays should be allowed to be scouts. ie- it's their own decision.

Romney said the free market should handle equal rights.

Romney was personally pro-life but didn't think it was the role of government because a close relative had died from an abortion

What about "The Real Romney"? It's from a 1994 debate that's been edited to make Romney look bad. Huckabee wanted to quarantine AIDS patients back in 1992. Does that mean that Huckabee still supports that? Of course not. People change their views.

Romney is defending Huckabee in this video even though he could legitimately go after him. And yet these Huckabee supporters still can't let Mitt alone.
