The problems in Aceh, Timor, Papua etc, are undeniably a problem the POLRI has to carry on their shoulder for years to come, but international community are very much responsible of those incidents as well. BTW, POLRI are no longer the ones clearing poor neighbourhood, its POL PP.
US cops are allowed to do PIT manouver endangering other motorists, US cops are allowed to draw their weapon if a suspect fail to do what he says, US cops are allowed to do all of those things, if a motorist fail to stop and try to run away from the cops. And yet indonesian police will face human right abuse charges if they decide to slap a student street fighting with weapons on them in front of a TV camera.
The problem in Indonesia is not as simple as most have thought. Hundreds of years of Dutch Colony embeded slavery mentality to most Indonesian. Anyone with power will suppress. Everyone is guilty of that. People complaint about human right abuses of POLRI, and yet the American cops have the right to shoot and kill anyone who resisted arrest if the person shows any sign of physical danger to the Officer.
At least they crack down they terorist`and captured the key members of Jamaah Islamiyah, and please be careful when we say Gegana (bomb specialist and anti teror), they are good! But regular indonesian military and brimob....hehe no comment for them!
Money is more important to the Indonesian government then the human rights of the people in Acheh/Poso/Papua and Maluku! That is why we will alway's support the struggle for freedom of the people in those area's! Freedom to the people!
It is easy to say that, but can't you imagine how the Papua and Maluku people feel? When the Indonesian people think that they want to help the Papua and Maluku people, show that to the world then! Today great news, Harto mati dunia!!! There will be flags raised all over the world! Papua and Maluku flags! MENA!
Freedom is quite relative right now. It's not something that you will enjoy your freedom all the time. Once new nation born they have to realize that surviving and keeping the freedom is harder than when you get. Look at the politik nowdays how big Countries are trying to accupy smaller country by economically and politically. it's not easy...and one thing...fuck off from beautiful Indonesia, if you live in Dutch, be Dutch!!
Henry henry henry...don't be so cruel...Of course it is hard to stay democratic and even harder to stay free. But don't you think that all the people in the world have the right o try and live their lives as they want to. Power to the people you know. Just like in Tibet, Papua and Maluku must get their freedom back also!
no man, Indonesia has its own personality and character. you can't draw the line that democracy must be like your imagination. I totally agree with Henry2013.
Indonesia is now looking for Balance in implementing democracy.Remember we have thousand of culture, and how you manage 230 million people with those background? By giving them FREEDOM or independent? Come on man, look at East Timor now!! They are fighting-fighting-fighting and fighting. We do not want that happened!
as one of achenese who is an indonesian police and military role's victims, I thank to allan who mentioned the true facts about indonesia. Now the so call western world (US,british etc) that claimed themselves as a civilized society need to answer this question: is it right to assist a terrorist government and its enforcement organizations in what you called war on terror?

Especially the last discussion:
The one who pull the trigger is guilty, as who the ones who supply them and give them the training.
But still everybody close their eyes as of the economic aspects...
