I don't have AMC because just short of cutting the cable cord, I have basic cable only because it's included with my internet access, so there isn't a sure way to cut the cord. Sorry I missed it, but hopefully someone will upload some clips,.(Hint Hint) (Wink Wink),.ok bye.
Well I never read the comic either but I think it will be worth a view on TV, I do have AMC on my tv so that is a plus, if i like it maybe I'll get the comic. Fresh Zombie stories are hard to come by, did you like Zombieland by chance? Great Talk about the hype around The Walking Dead :)
The Walking Dead tv series will probably run one season and that will be the end of it since the zombie genre has grown old since it was brought back into the mainstream with the release of 2004's Dawn of the Dead.
@Alymero I read in Horror Hound that they want to make it longer than one season assuming it does well, and will probably add stuff not in the comic. But you're right, zombies are so overdone, we'll have to see if it can make it passed Season one. I do miss though when AMC actually played movies, haha.
Piper, I agree with Ditkobeetle. He took the words right outta my mouth. If you haven't read the comic, YOU SHOULD. I recommended the comic to a close friend of mine, and he was addicted after the first page...YES, IT'S THAT GOOD. I have every single issue of the comic book series, and it's the best comic out there right now in my opinion. Robert Kirkman's storytelling is beyond amazing. I recommned you picking up the first trade paperback collection of TWD. I PROMISE you won't be disappointed.
The reason I enjoy the comic is because it's a zombie story that doesn't end.... Almost always at the end of a zombie movie, I am wishing it was longer. This is that. It is nothing special as far as characters and writing goes IMO... but there are some amazing people working on this show. Writers and directors of some of my favorite shows. I have very high hopes for the show, especially since it is on AMC.
The comic reads very much like a great George Romero movie...that just continues and does not end. It focuses more on the people and their struggle to survive, as well as the horrible evils that people become in their own quest to survive.
As someone who has become sick of zombies, Walking dead never feels stale. If you read the comic, you would be excited for the show...check it out. The Comic actually features some of the most gripping human drama that I've ever read.
@Ditkobeetle I think I'll watch the first episode and if it is good, I might take a peak of the comics. I know I'm being a poopy about it, it's just every time I tried to read a comic, I couldn't get into it.
I haven't read any of the comics, but I do know that Frank Darabont (The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption, and The Mist) is behind the series, so that has my full attention. Yeah, I agree, very good the bulk of the effects work will be mostly make-up effects. Reminds me of the old shows back in the 80's I grew up watching. Gonna be a pretty entertaining experience if you ask me.
@christopherSmac Thanks man. I've seen some of the zombies on print and they look pretty cool so that's what is making me check it out.. I miss the days of "real" monsters.
I have read the comics and although the premise is a lot like a Romero film, I still found it to be a page-turner that I didn't easily put down. My biggest beef with the comics is that the women are really poorly written and seem to freak out over everything (like a Romero film...oh god lol). Still, a zombie show might be cool, and they might have to come up with really good dialogue etc to keep fans interested.
You should check out EC comics if you haven't from the 1950s which are reprinted. They had artists like Harvey Kurzman, Basil Wolverton, Johnny Craig and Frank Frazetta. Tales From The Crypt, The Vault Of Horror and The Haunt Of Fear were their horror titles. Also check out Warren publications which were comics in magazine form: Creepy, Eerie & Vampirella. They also published Forrest Ackerman's Famous Monsters Of Filmland. By publishing in Magazine form Warren got around the Comic Code Law.
the comic book was pretty cool.. but I seem to be in zombie overdose lately (can't believe I said that haha).. but I have to say the show has great potential.. Frank Darabont is someone who could do it justice so I'll have to give it a look... though I share the same feeling as you.. not very exited for this.... blah
I'm reading the comic now, and it's largely about the struggle to survive. The primary focus is not on the zombies. Nearly the same story could have been told using a different threat, like killer robots. Still, the TV show could easily spend more time on the zombies. As a tale of survival, the comic is well done, and I'm glad it's going to be a TV show rather than a movie, because one of the highlights of the comic is getting to know the characters over a long story.
I never read the comics, I do have a comic collection though and I do dig comics. I did hear from people with good comic taste that it was a cool story. Im excited for it but I never get my hopes up too much. Zombies are getting a little played out though! Another reaon im excited is the fact that a new horror tv show is coming out. I wish they would make a show that follows a serial killer's (or slashers) everyday life. (not like Dexter).
Frank Darabont(director of The Mist,The Green Mile, and The Shawshank Redemption) is the show runner and directed the pilot episode. All the writters and directors on the walking dead are from the tv show The Shield. On top of that it's coming on AMC(Mad men,Breaking Bad)the best tv channel right now showing the best original dramas. The comic is up to #77.It takes from alot of zombie films like 28days later,or dawn of the dead. But at the same time add's somthing new to it.I hope you like the show.
i don't really know about The Walking Dead, but I might give it a watch. I love AMC in October. They really should have more horror films all year around.
ive actually never read the comics, i never really liked comics either. im not too excited about the show either, ill still watch it though. idk why like every horror magazine features it on their cover, i still havent read my horrorhound either hahah. speaking about zombies, have you ever seen deathdream? i got it a couple of weeks ago and its pretty good, its a completely different take on the zombie genre. its not ur typical , flesh eating zombie movie, you might like it.

@SLSwriter I have seen Zombieland. I liked the beginning and the end of the film, but the middle was too slow and boring for me.

...are way too many commercials on that channel, and they tend to edit out alot of stuff that they show (like Tales from the Crypt back in the day).
Otherwise, I think it's 50/50 whether it will be shit or not.
