I cant belive its all out side I would put that stuff in side some were watter and electric ouch but its your setup. I at least build a small shed to keep every thing out of the weather, then would have to worry about critters getting in at all.
That is what I though. I started with a shed and had my batteries and inverter inside, but I had trouble with ants, centipedes and squirrels. Also my batteries terminals keep corroding. I was adding panels and batteries to my system and I ran out of room inside my little shed so I put some of the batteries outside the shed until I could build a bigger shed. Then I noiticed that the Batteries outside the shed was not corroding or attracting bugs. I have very little maintenance now.
@markp0177 I use flattened copper pipe, drilled out where need be. Then, of course I wrpa it with electrical tape where I think it is at risk of making a short connection, so that it is more like cable. I find that when running parallel banks, it is important to take your + from one side, and your negative from the other, or else the nearest battery takes a huge hit. Great vids Mark. Merry Christmas.
Hello. Any deep cycle battery will work. I got my batteries used from a battery recycle store. They are large 6 volts batteries. They were used on a floor sweeper. I have had them for years with no problems. The wire I used is simply car battery cables I got from auto zone. Mark
i subscribed because i think this is soo cool, im going to make one... eventually, but what are different items needed. specifically. what types of batteries wiring and so on, because i had trouble with the audio. also are the batteries used rechargeable or nearly the same as a car battery. can you give types and brands for what you've got in your system?
I'm looking for clear information about how to wire the solar-panels / batteries / wiring to the house, in an off-grid system. What do I need exactly and how is the wiring done?
I want to have electricity in the house 24/24 and during the night I would use less (eg fridge). So during the day for example 60% of the solar panels' output would be used immediately and 40% would be used to charge the batteries. During the night there is no solar power and everything would run off the batteries. How?
@tomlauwers Hello. That is how I have my system. You have to have a charge controller. The power from the panels goes to the controller and then to the batteries. If the batteries are full the controller will disconect the panels. You wire the inverter straight to the batteries. You can then plug in your appliances to the inverter. Mark
I learned alot from your video, I am very interested in solar energy. Can you do a video on how to setup the solar energy to an a wall socket in the home.
Hi mark congrants for great Job , but please use some youtube tools to fix the voice or windos movie maker for dubbing . once again thnks for sharing you are amazing .
I think the issue is a poor lav mic. I notice audio changing drastically depending on where your voice is being projected. The video is freakin awesome though, great camera! What size cells should I be looking for on ebay? What dimension's and with what outputs?
Can you please another video better explaning how you set up your solar palnel and your battery bank. The AUDIO on this video is a little poor and its hard for me to hear. Can you tell me what kind of INverter I should invest inn. I want to run wind power and solar to my home. I want to have a least a 1000 watts worth of wind and the same for solar. I see you have a 5000 watt inverter. would that help me. I was going to use the 12v set up. Please write me back I have bought a 70 site from you
@markp0177 thanks for the video, but at least do the audio portion over again and re-upload so that people can understand. I really wanted to watch and learn but I just couldnt get past the audio. thanks for your understanding!
Hello. You would need a grid tie inverter to plug into wall outlet. I chose the battery system because we have power outages alot and hurricanes. Also the new power meter does not turn backwards. Mark
@sqhschief Grid tie is a waste of money as the cost of the system will always greatly exceed the value of the generated electricity. Battery only systems are cheaper (quality GTIs are bloody expensive) and are cost competitive with generators for grid down situations.
is it just me or does it almost sound like the microphone is underwater? The video quality looks GREAT but the audio from the beginning to 6:05 almost ruins it. Thanks for showing the setup

Thanks for your quick response Mark. I need to check with the city for codes and xcel energy here in CO.
Love the videos very enlightening ,great web site, keep it up.
I just made my first four 36 cell solar panels. hope to make another four, soon.
Thanks again, for your help.

@markp0177 How can you tell if you have the new or old meter? I think I'm going to go with grid tie.

@sqhschief The new meter is digtal. It does not have that wheel that goes around. Mark

Hi Mark, what is the reasoning for the battery system , v 's just plugging your inverter into your GFI wall outlet.
Reason i ask , i want to , buy a inverter and maybe plug it into the wall. would the aim 5000 still be good, with the no battery setup.
thanks for your information.

What about the elements raining down on your system? Or is this just a test set up?
