stop with the cultural sensitivty issues please for gods sake I play video games to get away from that nonsense I dont wanna hear about how insensitive a game is I dont care get over it
Most of mine do work, but occasionally I have to clean the cartridge pins with Q-tips and rubbing alcohol. I don't use emulators to record, so if a game didn't work the day I wanted to film it I would just use another game.
Dommie, I have watched all of your videos and enjoy them but this was beyond ridiculous to point out. You claim "..a native Philadelphian, and as such, I feel it's my duty to review any Rocky related merchandise...". Have you watched Rocky (1976) recently? Get to the end and listen to what Duke says to Apollo at the end of round 1. Letting "professor" sanitycollapse run amok with comments like "racist European-Americans" on your otherwise fantastic videos is very disappointing.
I'm sorry you felt that way about my Rocky SMS review. And to answer your question, I haven't watched Rocky I in probably 20 years.
As for sanitycollapse, I kind of just ignored his comments because frankly they didn't make much sense to me. I was talking about the Amos and Andy-esque speech they gave one of the characters in Super Punch-Out, which I though was racist.
Sorry, I see why my comment was probably confusing. I meant the "shuck and jive" commentary here for Super Punch-Out!!. Duke (who is black) turns to Apollo (who is also black) and tells him it's time to stop shucking and jiving and get serious. We all know how things work today, if it was really so offensive I'm positive they'd clip for television especially in that context. All that aside, keep up the great work your videos are very entertaining and informative.
Today, the expression has expanded somewhat from earlier usage, and is now sometimes used to mean "talking pure baloney," "goofing off," or "goofing around." The original meaning of deceit often remains, however.
"Shucking and jiving" was a tactic of both survival and resistance. A slave, for instance, could say eagerly, "Oh, yes, Master," and have no real intention to obey. Or an African-American man could pretend to be working hard at a task he was ordered to do, but might put up this pretense only when under observation. Both would be instances of "doin' the old shuck 'n jive."
"To shuck and jive" originally referred to the intentionally misleading words and actions that African-Americans would employ in order to deceive racist Euro-Americans in power, both during the period of slavery and afterwards. The expression was documented as being in wide usage in the 1920s, but may have originated much earlier.
And the timing isn't really off in this game, it's just like many Nintendo made games from the era...they had controls and timing that you needed to master and generally it never took you too long to do, but there always was a learning curve.
But seriously....a 4-2 record on the minor circuit? I went 4-0 easily the first time I ever got the game...thought everyone else did too, but I guess not lol
a good review, thanks for the video, for a great game i don't see the comments as racist, just stereotypes, and as you saw bob was jamican, as far as i know jamicans were not sold as slaves, i could be wrong...
Yes, Dragon Chan can be a pain the first time you face him. It's pretty much an uphill battle with all the fighters after him. Aryan Ryan in the World Circuit is a pain to beat, even for me.
But once you get the hang of the opponent's patterns, it's not to hard to give them a K.O. punch
Also, there is another hidden circuit called the "Special Circuit." I believe you have to beat every circuit without losing once to unlock it. Trust me, it's called special for a reason too.

They were completely wrong about Gabby Jay. They say he's from France, well, nuts to that!
His "C'mon," has a strong hint of Southern U.S. in it.

How the hell is shuck and jive racist? It just means to move around avoid punches.

Do all of your old games still work? Have you ever had to resort to an emulator to record?

i personally don't believe it's racist, the game is easy, downloaded it yesterday, got the 'you are the ultimate champ' message in about 4 hours.
