  • Jesus Christ! You spend all that money on a MacBook and they won't simply let you install a new hard drive if you want to? I don't get it, changing a hard drive in a PC Desktop/Laptop and reinstalling the OS is simple as shit. This is what puts me off buying a Mac is the limitations/restrictions of Apple.

  • @spiritualastralsoul yeap this is retarded 2 mins to take out a hdd on a pc 25 to take it out of a mac siccck!

  • thanks for this video! do you know if i can boot from an external dvd drive?

  • Hey, what's going? BTW, Nice video! I just had a really quick question.... I'm debating on whether to purchase a used macbook pro 17" and replace the processor among other internals. My most important question is, " Does it matter what brand or model processor you need if you are going from and older processor to a Intel i7? Please let me know. I'm debating whether to spend time and money into this next project.

  • awesome!!!!

  • thanks for the vid. atleast now I know I can change my client's disk to 1TB without bricking this expensive machine! good post

  • Merci beaucoup! Liked the song too!

  • Hi, i just bought a mbp off of ebay and it came with a seagate 500gb hard drive, have u ever used seagate? are they realiable?

    thanks

  • @ecuamario hey Seagate makes great HD, my preferred internal HD.

  • Thanks for the video, things were getting cramped on the 160gb.

  • Dam it will be nice to put a bluray burner...

  • Why didn't you put an ssd in it !

  • the new macbook pro are so much easier

  • If i were to change the Hard drive would i need to install the operating system again on the new HDD?

  • Yes

  • @NickelxK5 Yes it wouldn't be on the hardrive when you take it out of the box. d%^(

  • Just replaced the harddrive in my Macbook Pro 17" with a 500G 7200 rpmSeagate.

I avoided disconnecting the keyboard by using the screen as a rest for it. Just stand the screen up enough for the keyboard to lay against it.

  • thanks

  • song?

  • the keyboard looks a pain to get off, am doing mine this saturday YUP:

  • Doesn't this void your warranty???

  • its a 320gb smart guy... however i have since gone to a 200gb 7400 rpm which is 10x better

  • You say 20GB in the vid smart guy.

  • Thats bad when you cant read the number 3 might want to check into that

  • some kind of optical illusion, it does actually look like it says 20gb unless you look for the 3 lol its strange

  • wow, one of those cool 7400 rpm drives!!!

  • Thats fine, i wont have any problems changing the hard drive, its i just dont no the process on what 2 do after the change over for example the partition i no about disk utility and where 2 find the partition bit is it hard ?

  • Sorry but not sure, what do u mean by make a partition ?, so i hold down option and the c button together 2 run the disk? How do i make a partition and is it important im gonna install everything from new and there is nothing i wanna save cos ive done so already, At what time would i make a partition b4 or after the install of lepard. Thanks 4 your time much appreciated

  • i dont mean to sound rude but if you dont know what a partition is or how to boot from disc maybe you should have someone do it for you... but to boot from disc you have to hold option (just option) while it boots then you have to run disc utility to partition the drive to have a identifiable disk to put your Os on and be able to boot from

  • once u have changed the hard drive do u no what button u hold down so the software disk runs (etc osx lepard) i think u hold down c but not sure

  • Option you have to hold down option and remember to open disk utility to make a partition

  • yes, it is 'c'

  • does the macbook pro have 1TB upgrade yet?

  • No because there is no 1TB 2.5 sata there is a 500gb now but i upgraded to 200gb 7200rpm and the nice thing it doesnt run hot

  • nice video, can you tell me the name of the song? thanks

  • the song is called the safety dance ny men at work

  • Actually, it is "Safety Dance" by Men Without Hats.

  • Why doesn't anybody mention that you actually have to break the little plastic tabs to get the keyboard off and it's possible to bend the keyboard. Now mine has a small gap above the cd drive.

  • yes this voids the warranty and no it doesnt break any plastic tabs because there are none im not posting this for the new comer this is for someone that has worked on computers before

  • does this void warranty?

  • yes

  • that sucks so bad so u have to have apple do it to keep apple care so dumb

  • also you could just take it out and replace what you had in there if it was something other than the HDD or just get a new HDD if it crashed TIME MACHINE

  • so does this void warrenty on the mac book cuz to replace ram and hd on that u just take out the battery

  • if you take off the battery it will tell you what the mac came with and if you have to send it back to mac and it has new equipment (even ram) you will void the warranty

  • that sucks but good to know

  • Changing RAM on Apple computers does NOT void the warranty. Wrong, Wrong, Wrong.

  • right right right if you remove your battery you will see what you mac is supposed to have in text if you get ram from mac they give you a certificate with a reference in the space of your specs of you mac.... work for apple my guy

  • does this void warranty?
