  • I'm in bossier highs band now in 2012, it is truly a great experience. I sadly have to say times have changed and the band is really small now!

  • thats robenson's grand entry

  • I remember watching this on TV. Wasn't Mary Ellen Banfield the drumb major? I wish football games still showed the entire half time band performances!

  • wow, i think these guys are doing more complicated drills and music than bands are doing today O_O half a century later lol

  • I, too, am a graduate of the BHS Band. Truly, the most life-changing thing in my 62 years. Ken Larsen took over a year or two after this. Both are dead now. Great men, great leaders, great teachers. They taught far more than music and marching.

I thought I would never see this again. Thanks to David for posting. By the way, Ken Larsen destroyed the original film. I was his friend until he died. Never explained except "that's in the past".

  • Thanks for posting this 50-year-old film of the best high school band EVAH....I arrived at Bossier High in 1961 and the big talk, besides football, was THE BAND...they were awesome all through my time there. Graduated in '64.

  • Neville High School Band of Monroe and Bossier City High School Band were the best in the state back then. So sad it is not the same anymore.

  • I was in this band at the sugar bowl...trombone. The band also was invited to NY that year to march in a parade there. The esprit de corp was remarkable, mostly due to the unbelievable competence and leadership of Mr. Green, who everyone had enormous respect and fondness for. He worked out every member's part, down to the point of EXACTLY what note of the music and the yardline on which you turned (and your heel, not your foot, had to hit the line exactly!) A remarkable man..hope he's well.

  • @CouleeJohn When did Ken Larsen take over leadership? He's the guy all of my classmates remember so well.

  • omfg i cannot believe little bands like L.A. are considered the best now....this is amazing!!!!!

  • Very cool, learned to march with the BHS band in the early 80s and we were still doing it military style.

  • my mom was in this band around this time. i was in the band too...graduated 08 though

  • Yes, Mr. Green was a fabulous educator. He later came to Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, TX as band director. I wish you the best of luck. Your kids need to know that there is a proud tradition of excellence that they should feel obligated to uphold.

  • dude. im band director of this band now. i seriously cant believe this used to be the bossier band! we're only 50 members now, but i sincerely hope to get our numbers back up pretty soon. looks like ive got lots to live up to!

  • fstdrumboy - who was your dad? Ken Larsen??

  • @starkey1981 Ken Larsen was there in '64 already.

  • this was 18 years before my dad took over
