Andy Williams also has a wonderful version of "Lonely Street". Tillotson, an icon of my youth , , , , , the 50's and early 60's. . . . . wonderful, smooth, dreamy, non-violent MUSIC, with unmatched lyrics.
but for Johnny its the same like for any other Singer who sing Lonely Street. Nobody can mess up with Gene Vincent's beautifully Version of Lonely Street. Gene Voice broke my Heart every Day.
Sorry to say mac..Andy Williams covered this much earlier..and his version is the definitive track..his vocals are haunting and powerful..as for Johnny Tillotson..his version is absolutely fantastic..same music with the same dedication to the lyrics..it's a worthy remake, worthy of Johnny's talent and class
Did everyone forget the everly's version...?

Well, if you like this type of music - OK. But calling this "rock'n'roll is a silly joke.

Do you even know what Rock n' Roll really is?. and who the Rock n' Roll singers are, or the era of Rock n' Roll?.
Elvis is Rock n' Roll and he sang ballads.

I did not realize that so many artists recorded this song. Great ballad. IMO it comes down to Williams or Tillotson.

I've always been a big Johnny Tillotson fan. He also comes from my hometown. Never got to see him perform in person though.

I was able to see him twice here in Canada, in the 60's and the 80's. He is still touring.
