  • can you do the same thing but with a doll hand like a baby doll hand ?

  • @rebornsforlife1997 Yes, but you might consider using a lower viscosity silicone like 73-15 or adding a small amount of silicone fluid to Gel-10 before casting. This will aid in casting small finger tips.

  • @brickintheyard thanks so much

  • Hello, I really enjoyed your hand casting video.

I would like to make realistic burned hand gloves for a small movie in Vancouver,

I guess it will need 2 or 3 molds to do that. Could you maybe help me out with it ?

  • @etienneamien Can't really explain that in a comment but, in short, you will need to make a 2 piece negative mold with a positive core shaped like the hand, or the hand, that the glove will be on. This will insure that the finished part fits the actor.

  • @brickintheyard

Thank you, I did some casting at the art academy but never used real FX products such as silicon or alginate, only plaster. Regarding the hand gloves I guessed that I could move my hand into the first mold to enlarge the shape, then poor latex inside the mold and put back my hand to form a glove around it... But I guess it wont work like that and that my hand could stay stuck :)

  • holy smokes

u can really scare the shit out of someone with that hand in jar

  • is there any alternative i can use instead of alginate?

  • @100Kazuki Not for this process.

  • Wow this is awesome. Do you think it's able to create a hand the same way, but with only the skin layer? I mean, I suffer from a kind of skin disease on my hands and I'd really like to have like "realistic skin gloves" if you know what i mean?

  • @ninaannawilliams It could be done but to get a very consistent thickness you would need to make a hard mold with a core.

  • could work for people with discapasidades :D

  • Can you use the life cast molds for use other then real hands?

  • @Morningsidenursery Not sure what you mean.

  • is the finishing mold heavy? ಠ_ಠ cuz i wanna make a Fear Garden, but if i put the hands in plant pots, it might make the plant pots fall over...

  • @KATT718 A finished hand cast in Gel-10 weighs about a pound.

  • Three things:

    1) How long do you have to keep your hand in that stuff before it sets up?

    2) Is this stuff toxic?

    3) About how much is all of this going to run me?

  • @MusicFeedsYourSoul 1. depends on the set time of the alginate you use. Most of our alginates set up in 5-8 minutes. 2. Non toxic. Same stuff the dentist uses to mold the interior of your mouth. 3. Check our webstore for pricing.

  • @brickintheyard Thanks so much for your help! I can't wait to start on this!

  • Where do you buy the art mold? Thanks in advance:)

  • @fmflores2000 Check our webstore. We have a complete selection of alginates with about 5 different set times available.

  • Hi,

Which pigment did you use and in which percentage?

    Thanks for info.

  • @ksaeid We used silicone pigment and added just 1/2 a gram or so. Pigment is added depending on the color you want. There is no right or wrong ammount unless you add more silicone pigment than silicone.

  • How long does it take the alginate to set - do you have to wait til it is fully set before you pull out your hand?

  • @Jushroom This alginate sets in about 4 minutes and as soon as it turns solid you may remove your hand.

  • I'd love to make this and sneak it into a store like Walmart and mix it in with a jar of pickles or something. It would be funny to see the reaction of the first person to find it.

  • why dont people use this skill for something usefull? i dunno like reducing the national debt by making things other people in other counties want, so that they buy them from us and reduce the deficit imbalance

  • @OrganicDrew Maybe we could start making Happy Meal toys for the Chinese!

  • @brickintheyard

If you could do that, then i would applaud you, i don't think MC Donalds would accept your happy meal toys even if you were able to produce them cheaper than China makes them. MC Donald, and other corps are out to destroy America

  • @OrganicDrew Yes, indeed. Dang big box stores...

  • can you put a link to where you got all the products from

  • @EpicFAILblog101 There's a link to our store on our channel page.

  • are the plaster and gypsums the same??

  • @sh8lob911 We used Alginate in this video, but not. Gypsuma are not all the same.

  • @brickintheyard okay i have a gypsuma called paster not plaster.. anyway can't it be used in life-casting molds??

  • @sh8lob911 I don't know.

  • @brickintheyard wow you are really helpful :P:P thanks

  • what to do when your hand doesnt come out???

  • @MohawkSgone Tear apart the alginate.

  • @brickintheyard

    aiight ty

  • Looks like that could come in handy.

  • would you be able to cast things like plaster or paris and wax into this kind of mould with any success at all?

    thanks!

    a most helpful video!

  • Plaster and other gypsums are no problem. Wax may be used provided it is cast at temperatures under 212 F.

  • Is there a cheaper alternative to using Gel 10?

  • Stone or plaster may also be poured into alginate molds.

  • How much material does it take to construct a hand like that & what would be the estimated cost of the material for one

  • A 2 lb kit of silicone can cast 2 average sized hands. Go to our webstore for current pricing.

  • Is there a way to make gloves out of your hands? like..make a mold of your hand, then making your hand into a wearable glove?

  • That would require a 2 piece mold with a core to create the negative space.

  • Is there a tutorial about how to go about making a glove out of your hand using a 2 piece mold with a core? I've been looking for months and can't find any tutorials! I'm going crazy!

  • Not yet. In time we may post something like that. At present youtube only allows us to post about 10 min. max.

  • This is absolutely fantastic!! But I want to make a set of "Predator" movie hands out of silicone instead of the standard latex! I need something form fitting.

  • can i make the fingers not move

  • put wires in the fingers

  • But how can you out wires into the fingers in a closed mold like this?

Can you explain a method please?

  • Very difficult. You would have to carefully hold the wires in place until the silicone cured.

  • BEATIFUL

  • Freaking Awesome! Can't wait for Halloween!

  • Wow very creepy. Great vid.

  • Well done. Nice!

  • dam it caught all details even the veins

  • Indeed it did. Platinum silicone picks up incredible detail. We have a record cast in our shop that was molded in 73-29 silicone and poured in Easy Flo 60 and it plays.

  • where can i buy the gel-10

  • AWESOME !!!

  • were can I get this gel-10 and how much would it cost me?

  • its geat for HALLOWEEN

  • anyone know which store i can buy alginate from please i need help

  • There's a great supplier called BITY Mold supply that carries all kinds of lifecasting supplies. I hear they also make free how-to vids for youtube.

  • Using a fairly close fitting container to make the mold keeps the ammount of alginate used low. This took about 1 lb. You can cut down on alginate by using smearing it or doing a "layup" but then you will also need plaster bandages to support it.

  • How much alginate was required for this?

I have seen others just smear it on the hand which I imagine cuts on costs. Any down-side to that method?

  • @StephenBanham This method used about 1.5 lbs.

  • what is the set time for the alginate?

  • That was regular set, so about 4-5 minutes at 70 degrees.

  • Just wondering how much silicone you ended up using for the hand?

    Looks amazing by the way!

Do you need to be careful what type of Alginate you use, to avoid problems with water inhibiting the silicone?

  • This hand took about 1.5 lbs of Gel-10. MoldGel alginate (available on our web store) works without problems.

  • très intéressant.

  • very nice, i used this techinc in order to make the hands and feet of a dummy, which had to be thrown over a 4 story building....ouch!

  • neat really neat
