  • Masterpiece of it's genre. Great stop-motion effects, make-up, writing and casting. Phenominal directing and cinematography as well. They don't make em' like this anymore...thats for damn sure.

  • Watch The Terminator a much better film ROBOCOP is shit compared to a terminator

  • robocop definitly should get a sequel instead of a remake.

    here are some examples

    Terminator Salvation

    Tron Legacy

    Predators

and Alien is even getting a prequel

horror movies get the remakes but sci fi movies should get sequels/prequels

  • @pmars219 Robocop had two piss-poor sequels and other assorted crap on TV and straight to rental.

Terminator Salvation is a prequel as it is a time travel film. Tron Legacy is definitely a sequel, try watching it. Predators is in idea a sequel to the original predator but throws in a Hard Target type plot. Prometheus isn't a prequel to Alien, it's a slightly connected story within the Alien universe according to recent reports.

  • speed of a laser ...... really? i don't remember him being able to break past a slow lumber.

  • @moshun

I was wondering if anybody else caught that. If Robocop didn't have his gun, you could just run from him and he couldn't do anything about it.

  • Man, this commercial really makes the movie look like crap. No hint of how smart or funny it is.

  • lol, he has not "the brain of a computer", he has murphy's brain, that's one of the main themes, what is "human"? the "person" is the mind I think, BUT he's not in a human body!. imagine being stuck in a robot's body!.

the first movie is amazing, it's a classic, there is no need to remake it, I really hope they dont' do it. as for the sequels...they all sucked :(

  • not remake. reimagining. the movie is gonna be called robert t cop not robocop. and as for the brain of a computer thing. robocop had a implanted chip in his brain. how else the directive 4 would work? he is a machine, but a little flesh is what makes him human. p.s. his face aint flesh. its not organic.

  • there's some doubt about the face thing, some people think it's synthetic and "made as a tribute" as he says in the second movie, but I think it's his real face since it has the scar of the gun shot, (and the second movie sucked so I couldn't care less about what it implies about the character :) it practically ruined it, in the first one he ended up talking and acting more human, he regained his murphy personality, but in the second one he starts "very robotic" again... it makes no sense)

  • it is a tribute, but even if hes flesh is not organic, they mulated it. they throw some latex on his face, and head. like a mask. so automtically, the scar is mulated on the mask too. you know what i mean?

  • I get the idea, like "they spread some wax on his face and made a wax copy", right? (not with wax, it was jut an example), but I don't agree, there is no clear statement about it, the "they made this as a tribute" thing in robocop 2, is ambiguous, it could mean "they made a copy of my face" as well as "they put my face in the robot". true: it generates doubt, but personally I like to think it's the real thing :)

  • yes i think youre right. i mean, every man in this world, if they gonna die and return as a robot, with no memories or identity from their past organic life, they completely freak out, like cane did. but with robo, i think the face means a sense of identity. :D

  • one of the better things about the first movie,is how the character evolves. at first, he talks, walks and have robot mannerisms,(and the "face" is the robot helmet), but by the end,he wears no helmet and talks less robotic, the scene when he walks towards clarence and says something like "I'm not going to arrest you this time" comes to mind.

it's murphy talking, not just a robot that's programmed to "uphold the law" anymore.

haha, all this talking made me want to watch the movie again :)

  • exactly. me too :))

  • their planning a remake of robocop i think it'll rock

  • I think it's gonna suck. Although after seing Iron Man I think it might have a shot at being atleast watchable.

  • for my taste, iron man was an unwatchable torture....

  • Urgh, that means the fans will be divided if they make a new robocop. =D

  • if they are going for the remake, I hope they don't ruin it, it's hard to live up to expectations if the original source material is a classic with fandom. imagine how awful a remake of "back to the future" or "terminator" or "rambo first blood" would be.

you can't just do remakes of that kind of movies.

see what happened with "planet of the apes"?.

if they try to do a sequel...they should at least

ignore robocop 3 and the tv series.

  • also, have you watched a canadian tv miniseries called "robocop prime directives"?.

it returned to the dark violent roots of the first movie, no "family friendly" stuff like the awful tv series, but I didn't like it anyway, the actor didn't look like murphy's face at all,and he said he didn't watch the original movie in order to "make the character his own",so he didn't play it like peter weller. and they retconned murphy's partner in the flashbacks,as a guy instead of officer lewis! naaah!!!

  • Thats because Lewis was his partner when he transferred to the precint in old detroit

  • my point is, even returning to the dark violent roots and "ocp is evil" instead of the family friendly thing of the tv series,

that "prime directives" miniseries couldn't get it right, it just doesn't feel like robocop without peter weller as murphy, some replacement instead of nancy allen as lewis, and so on.

  • I actually saw it as a kid, and I really didn't like it ether.

I know exactly what you mean. When I heard they were making a new Star Trek movie, where we'd see Kirk again, I thought it was gonna suck. It was actually really good. We'd have to give the producers a chance to at least try - but the sheer chance of them doing another attempt at pulling in a quick buck frightens me too.

  • This Movie Own's today's action garbage.

  • i agree with all but the speed of a laser... he was a bit sluggish... (who came up with that line? its funny)

  • I saw it in the movies 1987 it still holds up today.

  • This movie was awesome in the past and still is to this day. Thanks for posting this up. 5 out 5 all the way.

  • So July 17th, 1987 was the date that Robocop was released to theaters. On July 17th, 2007, which is coming up in a couple of weeks will be it's 20th Anniversery.

  • you'd think they'd release a box set to test the market as to weather we'd still want to see another movie.

Boy would they be suprised..to bad it wont happen :(

  • Yep, this up coming Tuesday on July 17th, 2007 will mark Robocop's 20th Anniversary!
