I first saw this in a hotel room in Sydney in '98, when I was visiting my girlfriend at the time, who was studying in Australia. She was lying on the bed beside me, the evening light from outside settling on her as she slept, and I had to keep the volume down while I flipped the channels, settling on the sight of this gangly singer backlit in salmon whose name didn't register with me, sharing these lines that put a stamp on the moment for me, and how I'd fel a few years later. Great nostalgia.
