In Libya there is a traditional woolen clothing which looks just like the Roman toga and it seems to be laid on in the same way. Perhaps you should travel there to get instructed by the people how to dress it.
@IuliusSabinus Could you send me the same link? I'm attending a toga party at the end of the week and I was wondering how long the cloth needs to be and so forth. Thanks in advance.
is it possible to drape a toga with a queen or king size un fitted sheet. i bought a toga for a hallowe'en party i have the tunic but not the toga part...
I have some questions. Did the Romans usually use a brooch or clip to secure their togas? were togas lightly to unravel? Was it posssible to put on a toga yourself or did you need some help? What were the impracticalities of the toga? I am just researching for a progect and most google searches come up with modern rubbish. Thanks :)
@MrNayl0r@MrNayl0r No, the Romans never secure their togas with brooch or clip. It was a rule. It is very well possible to put on a toga without help, especially a republican toga, however, there is a need for a good understanding of how to do it, and an aesthetic "sense".
@MrNayl0r This toga, the early form of the toga is quite easy to put on. Much more difficult to put on the classical toga, about what we (Nova Roma) will make another video in the near future.
@MrNayl0r The impracticalities of a toga? There are several! It's fully impractical to wear, especially the classical toga. It's cumbersome, but that's not why the Romans wear it. It is a solemn dress, and one has to learn to wear it solemnly. You have learn how to behave, how to move in a toga.
@MrNayl0r Toga's cannot wear any kind of clip or brooch. They've to stand by their own weight. You'll always need help to put on a toga. They aren't uncomfortable as they seem. If you need help, ask me.
@andrewus999 I have been thinking the same thing. I am a third year Latin student and we've come up with the idea of wearing togas to our Latin Club meeting but every time I hit google to ask how to make a toga or wear one it always comes up with some shitty bed sheet toga.

For the toga to stay in place, was any part of it tucked into the folds in the back? I couldn't tell if it was left hanging. Thank you!

It's kind of sad that this is the only video about authentic Roman togas. The rest are just college party barbaric junk.

I agree the rest are greek, woman, unique togas that are a waste of space.
I love the original ROMAN toga.
