Im 12 and my mum told me to look up this ong and THIS HAS BEEN MY FAVORITE SONG FOR 1 YEAR. I can reaklly see where our generation music has gone...nowhere! This is real Music <3
I loved this album. One of my favourites. I saw Skyhooks in concert at Memorial Drive in Adelaide some time last century. Skyhooks were there backing up Status Quo.
Hahahaha!! "She kicks off her platform shoes...!!" Just so funny to remember those cork soled, 6 inch monstrosities! Short guys of the 70's had enough problems trying to get laid, and this didn't help.
Ah Skyhooks this takes me back to the days of good music, Being a hawthorn footy supported often used to see Shirl down at the club always a fantastic bloke, R.I.P. Shirl, music today is crap!
if ya listen carefully to this song....its more about getting caught up in the 'suburban trap' of wife/ house/ mortgage than anything else...its not about gay/ straight, its about a grasping suburban chicky getting her hooks into a guy, who was only out for a bit of fun...Balwyn, the suburb, has become the nickname for the girl who is from there, Balwyn being a nothing particularly exciting kind of place, where you will end up living if you let this girl get her way....
is there a video of this - i so love this track - i'm from Brisbane and back in the mid 70s I visited my aunt in melbourne and she said - we are going to Balwyn tonight for a party. I had heard of Balwyn from the Skyhooks song. I was about 15 or 16 at the time, didn't know she was into the gay scene at the time - ever since I associate Balwyn with what I just said. BTW - I am not gay, and never been back to Balwyn since.
@LIMESPLICE the girl he met at the party was from balwyn.the party could have been anywhere.when she rings him after the party, thats"balwyn calling".I agree though that balwyn is a straight suburb. Also full of stuck up people that whine like a EH HOLDEN DIFF
@befrayed i am also a "young cunt" as you so politley put it, and i have this strange feeling i am younger than you, i am not going to argue with how amazing skyhooks are but...must you potray yourself in such an obscene/vulgar manner?
i mean is talking like that really nesecary?
all you are doing is representing young people in a terrible way.
people like you dont really deserve voice boxes, no offense or anything.
@nothingandnowhere7 I'm an old cunt who remembers listening to this stuff when I was a young cunt, and I'm curious to know whether you're offended by all the crude/vulgar lyrics on this great album? Listen to "Smut" & "You Just Like Çause I'm Good in Bed", and the golden oldie "Why Don't Ya All Get Fucked?", then complain about vulgarity.
@nothingandnowhere7 befryed is speaking the way most suburban lads did in the day. Hes hip to the lingo. Your little appeal to him is more about your own confession of being part of a generation of fucksticks. The language he uses is completely consistent with the times of Skyhooks. Shirl swore like a trooper like most Ausie men did; more confident and less pussy whiped by feminism and political correctness.
Fuck post modernist Australia its a shitheap of effeminate gender apologists on ritalin

Balwyns a straight suburb the party you went to may have had a mixture I think the songs more about a nypho groupy that couldn't say no?

Nearly everything the Skyhooks did was great. They were far and away the most important Australian band of the 70s.
