  • Great film again. The tomb at 2.38 has a carving saying the deceased died on Jan 15, 1961. the tomb looks very new then. The film was probably shot not long after.

  • @nwong6410 . Thanks for the info. You are right the film was taken after 1961.

  • Michael, has the Hong Kong Heritage Museum contacted you for your videos? They really ought to purchase the rights/license them from you!!!

  • @outdevo . The Hk History Museum and the Hk Govt Film Archive have. I haven't heard of an heritage Museum.

  • Hi albert

Yes the shots at 4.19 showed the Airport in the 1950s but the film taken on the terminal veranda was def 1960s!

  • Hi Michael, is me again^^. You have been to many different places of N.T. ,Hong Kong. In the beginning view is the Castle Peak Road to Tuen Mun. You also went to Kut Hing Wai (吉慶圍) of Kam Tin, Yuen Long at 1:49, the wall is still here now. Then, you went to Fanling Golf Club. Many foreigners enjoyed their picnic in Sai Kung. At the end, you went to Kai Tak Airport, yes! Kai Tak Airport area, in fact, belonged to N.T. but most HK peoples misderstood that place belongs to Kowloon, even now.

  • @albertsamtam Thanks.

  • Hello Micheal

I used to go to Kia Tak as a teenager to watch the aircraft in the early 1960's. I remember that terminal being opened in about 1962, so the film must have been made after that date, rather than in the 1950's as the title suggests.

    Anyway SUPERB!

  • @gerefan Hi gerefan, I would like to friendly tell you that Kai Tak airport opened on Jan 24, 1925 and the renamed as Hong Kong International Kai Tak Airport in 1962 until closed on July 6, 1998, then was moved to Chat Lap Kok until now. Therefore, what Michael mentioned the year as title is accurate.

  • Very nice footage. Surprised to see that the villagers were still afraid of camera at the time. Again, THANKYOU very much for sharing. I am sure millions of HK people all over the globe love to see your masterpiece. Bravo !!!

  • Why this video is in colour?

It already has colour video cameras in the 50's?

  • @dawnnadir. Kodachrome colour film was introduced before WW2. Video didn´t exist at the time. This clip is from a digitalised 16mm Kodachrome film.

  • Wonderful video thank you very much for sharing.

Note for vanessaseed. The hotel near the end was the "Sha Tin Heights Hotel"

  • Those Hakka women are freaked out as though the camera is stealing their souls!

These images I saw when I lived there as a child. What fond memories.

Your videos should be well protected.

    THANK YOU

  • Your video is great! I was not yet born when you shot the video.

  • Simply marvelous. Thanks for sharing it

  • yet another fantastic video. i remember the hakka ladies doing their farmwork from the 60s in yuen long but dressed exactly in the same way!

was the building near the end a hotel in shatin?

  • fantastic,thank you.

  • thank you.

  • This is just amazing!! All HK's historian would love you! Just how many more videos do you have? Could we buy any of it?

  • Thanks for bringing us back the old days of Hong Kong. I was born in 1980s, this is my first time seeing the Kai Tak airport in colour back to the very old days, I guess it's around the 50s or early 60s. Now, the Kai Tak is just a abandon area since 1998, really missing the good old days. Once again, thanks for your well-maintained and well-documented video! Wish you health and all the best!

  • Oh this is soo good. Thank you Mr. Rogge for sharing. I see those farmer ladies did not like you filming them. LOL! Your films are better than any 60 second TV documentary. I wasn't even born yet, but I still have family in HK and I remember they were mentioning that old New Territories use to be a farming community. and now I got a vision of how things use to be.

Thank you again Mr. Rogge. May you have many more years of health and happiness to you and your family.....

  • What language was the person speaking on the loudspeaker?

  • English

  • 吉庆围

  • thank you so much for such valuable records !

  • very beautiful O~ HK

  • Oh I'm now living in the New Territorries. Those walls still exist in Kam Tin. Yet the New Territorries is not as placid as it was in the video. Most plain and fish ponds had transformed into new towns. But those tombs are still common on the hills.

  • Thx, I grew up in the NT in those times. How nastalgic it is to see the familiar scenes again. Was'nt the sky and distant mountains always so clear?

  • I love the rice flinging at 1.41!Thanks to your persistence, we can share your amazing experiences. Thank-you.

  • Unfortunately, what has not introduced in the region!
