  • @kaishawnmcdougald515 No it doesn't. I won't delete this comment as a message to all those who aren't as informed. DoW2 requires Windows Live which is by no means by-passable.

  • Vaul has nothing on you. I have to say I prefer Pro to standard. Please show us Necrons or IG soon. Or better yet one against the other. So how have those two races been changed?

  • @ChrisPrice12 Oh wow, that's too kind of you - Vaul is a fantastic commentator.

IG has a (SS)2:3(DoWpro) ratio of squads compared to the Retail version. IG squads are slightly weaker, and don't scale in the same way as a result. You also have access to Kasrkins and all mini heroes as of T1. Commisars aren't expected to compensate for Guardsmens inefficiency anymore, and kasrkins help introduce a 2nd armour type (as well as a strike-force unit) to put IG on the playing field.

  • @UltraSimon007 As for Necrons, they are completely different. Necron Generators now have a requirement that they are placed further than a minimum distance apart from each other. That and Necron squads all start off larger, but don't scale so much. Necrons resurrection plays a huge role in their Gameplay, as the Necron lord now has an ability to summon a pylon that squads can teleport to as well as increasing chances of resurrection in the area and reducing enemy line of sight (racial trait).

  • @UltraSimon007 I really like the sound of that. I usually use the resurrection ability anyway so not much change there. However being able to drop a squad of Warriors and Immortals right into the middle of an enemy base sounds sweet.

  • @ChrisPrice12 Ye you'd have to see the race in its current state to understand completely why we made that change. It's mainly because Immortals were tuned to be a Jack-of-all-trades squad that's incredibly expensive. For this reason, we tuned all other squads to revolve around them, as well as function in every other sense of the game without them.

The other big aspect of necrons is their heroes. With the implementation of wargear, Necrons have the choice of focusing their army around heroes.

  • @UltraSimon007 You mean that state it was in for the standard SoulStorm? Or what it was like after the Pro modifications? Makes sense with the Immortals since if memory serves they were the original worshippers of the C'Tan, thus they are the oldest and strongest of the Necron soldiers other that the Heroes and Pariahs.

  • @UltraSimon007 I call it as I see it.

The only reason I am not playing Pro is that my compute won't download it. Otherwise I would be out there getting my ass kicked. Have to say I like the sound of early Kaskrins. I never use commisars, go straight for the priests and pykers, so won't much of a change from my usual strategy of Human Wave Tactics until I can get vehicles out theres. Also are the strengths of vehicles changed in anyway?.

  • @ChrisPrice12 Yes@Vehicles. The Chimera has a heavy bolter/autocannon addon and plays a major part is IG's midgame. Rather than just a transport, it offers a fast armour class along with the strongest vehicle any race has to offer at that point. Sentinels start with an autocannon now, and have the option to upgrade to a flamer or lascannon. This change was carefully made for good reasons.

Hellhound is similar only more of a building destroyer/morale breaker than general dps. Leman was kitted.

  • @UltraSimon007 Kitted?

  • @ChrisPrice12 They scale immensely. They have to fill a huge hole since Guardsmen are only "the backbone". Guardsmen are what you make of them - put money into them, and they are strong; don't, and weak. Because of the design of Guardsmen, you can simply elect to have them as a meatshield that can't be ignored. Leman Russes are the strongest tanks in the game for price, so they have the option to get side heavy bolters, a lascannon in the front, and a Demolisher Cannon as an anti-armour option.

  • @UltraSimon007 Now I get it. Have the Basilisks been changed in anyway?

  • @UltraSimon007 I don't know what "kitted" means. Never really used Leman's much. Stuck with Hellhounds, Basilisks and Chimeras... until the Baneblade hit the field.

  • @ChrisPrice12 Baneblade is a beast in DoWpro. <3 him

"Kitted" comes from the products you can buy called "Kits". Kits often refer to a package for assembling. The package contains everything required, but you have to put it together. So, when we say "Kitted", we mean that the Lemon Russ has many options 'you' can add to it, if you desire so.

  • @UltraSimon007 I am guessing that it can smash through an enemy force with ease as long as they don't have many anti-vehicle squads or vehicles.

  • @UltraSimon007 Oh yeah, a good description for the new Banblade would have to be: "For when you are finally sick of holding the line." Every time that tank has hit the field so far I have just mowed through the opposition without trouble.

  • @ChrisPrice12 Computer won't download it? Why? Any ideas? I don't suppose you can elaborate on this slightly; maybe I can help.

  • @UltraSimon007 Maybe it has to do with the fact that my computer is a Mac.

  • @ChrisPrice12 Hmm I'll speak to someone about this. Do you have mIRC or msn? I can just pm you on this with my research, or one of the other mediums listed above.

  • @UltraSimon007 Not sure. It's the same as how I bought in the store, now modifications whatsoever. However I find it more fun to just watch people play, because I know that I can't win against most of the players out there.

  • @ChrisPrice12 Oh lord ;s A Mac user attempting to play a windows game ;p

  • @UltraSimon007 I managed to do it for the Dow, WA and DC. It's just too much trouble to do it anymore. That's why I went out and bought a windows laptop. Best one in my price range. Add in that SoulStorm should arrive by Monday and I am in business. Though from what I have seen about the only thing I am going to be doing is adding air units into my tactics.

  • @UltraSimon007 One request for a shoutcast: a match on Deadman's Crossing. It is one of my favorite maps seeing as it is perfectly suited to long drawn out fights. It's just a shame that it isn't ever seen in shoutcasts.

  • @UltraSimon007 Just that last thing before I attempt to download Pro onto my new laptop.

  • @ChrisPrice12 Ahh fantastic! Let me know how it goes. :D

  • @UltraSimon007 Going great. Just don't expect to see me online for a few weeks, maybe two months, tops. And get an online account. Since the game is still downloading, one question: can I still play against the computer? Because I would rather get in some practice before I face people online.

  • @ChrisPrice12 Of course you can play against the AI :3 The AI in dowpro is quite fantastic (or at least it was). It may be a bit buggy, but certainly does the trick from what I remember.

  • @UltraSimon007 AI is better than you think. It's like faving a human opponent. Endgame of a match against AI Chaos, there was a Daemon Prince on the front lines smashing through my tanks. Then a Sorceror teleports behind my lines and becomes a Bloodthrister. Not fun. I was playing Deadman's Crossing. Very easy to fortify a position.

  • @ChrisPrice12 Okay I am pretty sure the AI is learning. I don't mean during match, but from match to match. I can't pull the same strategy twice. Whatever you guys did to the AI, it's actually a little scary.

  • @UltraSimon007 Either way I look forward to your next shout cast.

  • @UltraSimon007 Actually I think it might be because I don't have a copy of the regular Soulstorm. Never got it.

  • @ChrisPrice12 Aha yes, that would do it =] The current DoWpro version is designed for SoulStorm. However, although it is encouraged that you own your own legit copy, we also don't mind if you stumble upon a a downloadable copy and magically produce a copy on your machine (at your own discretion, of course).

I own a legit copy, but many others I know don't.

  • @UltraSimon007 I am perfectly content to watch shout casts. I actually lost interest in playing after I beat Dark Crusade for the umpteenth time. Add in the gradual nerfing of my favorite Ork unit (Squiggoth). Out of curiousity how have the Ork been changed. Kind of curious how the first race I ever used has changed. They kind of suited my usual Human Wace Tactics until I started using the IG and Necron.

  • @ChrisPrice12 Orks function like they did in the original game. Slugus are beefier and very potent in close combat, shooters can comprise (almost) the whole Ork army, and Orks get many benefits from having lots of troops within a close range of each other, such as damage, movement speed, and morale buffs.

They also have a lot of neat tricks for harassing enemies. With the addition of the 'Ard Boys squad (tac armour), they can mix armour to face all counters in the game. Ard Boys = anti building

  • @UltraSimon007 So Human Wave Tactics are still the name of the game for Orks. Maybe for your next shout cast you could show a Orks vs IG or Orks vs Necron game. Have to admit I kinda used Tankbustas for anti-building. That or send in a strike force consisting of a Flash Gitz squad with Big Mek attached. Teleport in, cause massive damage (i.e. kill off the workes and power generators, maybe a production building), get out with as much dignity as I can.

  • @ChrisPrice12 Unfortunately, Flash Gitz were partially removed from the game. They were turned into an alternative squad leader to the nob and kommando (a flamer nob that we also added). Flash Gitz messed with the mechanics of Orks a bit too much to incorporate.

Tank Bustas are primarily a CC squad in dowpro. Very much like vanilla, they start off as 3 man squad with only a pistol/choppa. They do great damage vs buildings/vehicles in cc, but can be upgraded to an 8-man squad with rockets.

  • @UltraSimon007 So much for my hopes of seeing an army of Gitz marching upon the enemy.

Still the Tank Bustas sound like a better unit that they originally were.

Would I be correct in guessing that the strengths and weaknesses of air units have remained the same?

  • @ChrisPrice12 You'd be wrong. We removed them all together :s

Yes, tank bustas are a lot more diverse now. Fantastic unit that holds up orks mid game for a cheaper price than Nobs. Nobs also have a lot more to offer, as well as MANZ being ridiculously tank!

  • @UltraSimon007 Went for vehicles instead of Nobs.

I just realized that the Sisters are a perfect counter to Chaos in Pro due to their heavy use of fire based weaponry.

  • @ChrisPrice12 Unfortunately, we removed Sisters of Battle from Pro. =( It's a bug that they show up in the race-selection screen. We tried modding them into Pro, but the work involved was just too great.

Ork vehicles are great fun, aye? :3

  • @UltraSimon007 That they are. I'm fine with no Sisters. Seeing as how I never got Soulstorm I never had a chance to use them. Fixing that little oversight as we speak. It is a pain to mod DoW to Macs though.

  • @ChrisPrice12 Actually, yes. The DoWpro crew are starting a series as of Tuesday. Each match will be Shoutcasted (presuming the games go for longer than 5 minutes). Your timing for checking this video's comments couldn't be better. :3

  • @UltraSimon007 WAHOO! I am really hoping that all of the races will be in it.

  • Are sister's of battle and dark eldar changed at all for SSpro? or is that still in the works.

    PS: I vote necrons

  • They are in DoWpro, and no, they haven't been changed heavily (yet). Dark Eldar design is based on a combination of Eldar (fleet of foot, fragile troops), chaos (really high dps), and Dark Eldar design units from SS.

We haven't changed unit's roles much, but we have changed them a fair bit at the same time.

Crons ey :] IG and Crons it shall probably be.

  • I enjoyed your shoutcast, It convinced me to pick up DOW: Pro. I would like to see Necron, I love them but they were really lacking in DOW.

  • I'll do necrons in my next shoutcast, in that case :] Either that, or IG. Have to do both very soon as both have been requested, with Chaos afterwards.

  • @Dpipke That's fantastic to hear! Would love to see you on mIRC for a game every now and then :3

  • @UltraSimon007 wow I left this comment over a year ago, I completely forgot about this. Are you going to do anymore shoutcasts? your good at them

  • You should make a tournemant like Vaul did, random.A lot of matchups will come out of there and I believe it's a very good way to get more people exited about Pro:)

  • @BlueMassiah We have held multiple tournaments through ESL, and no one joins in. It's very impossible to attract both new and old players into DoWpro. With SC2 dawning around the corner, and games like HoN and CoD roaming the gaming fields, I honestly am out of ideas as to how to grab new players into the picture.

  • @UltraSimon007 Well it has been ages sinds you putout a new commentary and the games you mentioned all have a huuuuge VOD and lifestream support. Maybe that's something you should try? Livestreaming DoWpro? It's something I'm starting to pickup myself. But I don't think DoW is out of the league, i checked google for a new rts but I had 1 major problem, people kept mentioning DoW as there favorite next to titles like starcraft and CoD.Maybe the DoWpro is a little too hidden in DoW sanctuary?

  • Eagerly waiting for next videos. Keep 'em coming :).
