  • @tjnc21 i recomend a gp40 or gp38-2 thts what i started with

  • i am only 9 so i will get it so time in my live

  • i really wont that train i have the cars but not the engen

  • Beautiful Locomotive and cars.

  • The passenger cars meant to go with the DDA40X are better off with some E-units or F-units.

  • Throw that engine on some large flew track curves then see what it is like!

  • These loco's actually used an RS3L, not a K3LA.

  • That is one massive O-scale engine! :D

  • Oh alright. I was thinking about an 0-6-0 dockside switcher or a K-Line plymouth like yours.

  • What locomotive would you recommend as a first diesel loco? I have a couple steam engines and would like a diesel but I'm bit sure which to use. Any suggestions?

  • @tjnc21 Just depends on what you like.

  • that is a very nice engine

  • I freakin' love Union Pacific but its a shame that they don't operate some of their cooler locomotives any more.

  • you should get the legacy DD35A it articulates in the middle because it runs on 0-42

  • thats a train for real men

  • i been tryin to get my hand on one of these for the longest

  • Have you ever seen a Nathan M5 Horn? The real engine #6936 is lacated at the Western Pacific Railroad Museum and has a Nathan M5 horn.

  • @jadog31 Yes.

  • they do make 0-99 track its by atlas

  • Did this engine cost at lest $699.99?How muck horepower does the 2 engines have? Was the engine build by EMD?

  • @BigBoyO56 The engine retails for $699. The real engine has around 6,600 horsepower and was built by EMD. Look it up on Wikipedia if you want to find out more about it.

  • @esiegel76 Thank U!!!!!!!!

  • how much does it weigh

  • @bobcats330 I'm not sure, probably between 5 and 7 pounds but that's just a guess.

  • @esiegel76 if thats true try a brass one.

  • this engines in real life are monsters wish i could take tour on them =)

  • They gave it 645 roots blown sounds? Wow, MTH.

  • I saw this listed on mth's site for only 699.99 retail price..... is that the correct retail for it, 'cause on a train stores price it was listed for well over $900

  • The retail is $699. If a train store is charging $900, they are doing it because these engines are a little hard to find.

  • what is the length of the passenger cars? who makes them?

  • They are made by MTH, just like the engine. I'm sure exactly how long they are.

  • Whoa that is a big monster. Awesome footage Eric

  • Eric, I looked it up...they are the exact same cars that were on that Extreme Trains episode....pretty cool.

  • Right on. I'm hoping to have the set of cars within a few weeks.

  • The most striking difference between this one and mine is the green paint on top. Thats a nice addition. I bought mine with proto 1.0 and upgraded it...it was the easiest one to do because of the massive amount of room to work with...lol. Can't wait to see it with the passenger cars, I'm assuming they will be "madison" in style?

  • Um, I'm not sure. I actually don't know that much about different types of passenger cars. The model number for the set of cars is 20-65147. Look it up on their site and let me know.

  • If you've seen the "Extreme Trains" show on the History channel, the DD40AX is a helper for the 844 steamer...yet they don't mention it at all in the episode. I guess it will always play second fiddle to the 844...lol

  • 6939 has passanger sounds cause they do you this engine only for excursion trips anymore, they still use it solo not just with 844.

  • I'm just mentioning the fact that they didn't even bother to give it some airtime....I'm sure they would use it for more than "helping" the 844.

  • come to think your right, i was surprised that they didn't even mention what it was

  • unless you knew what you were looking at, you wouldn't even know it was there...lol

  • Thanks for posting. Really nice looking loco. How is the detailing on it? Any issues you've seen with it? How does it handle switch points? You mentioned passenger coaches. Which road name on them? Looking forward to the next videos!

  • The detailing is very good and it runs great. Each truck only has 1 roller, but the trucks are space so far apart that it hasn't been an issue. The only real issue I've had is that it's so gigantic that it won't fit through some of my tunnel portals. Haha.

  • how much did it cost for real

  • WOW!!!....cant wait to see it with the passenger cars...

  • you only got it for ten dollars?

  • Of course not, silly. :)

  • Thats a great looking engine!! 5*****

  • how much did it cost?

  • $10

  • Another great video! Thanks for sharing this beast with us!

  • OH my GOSH. that is the coolest engine i have ever seen in O scale so far. that thing is amazing!!! 5/5

  • damn, that would be great, you probly could make it stronger though

  • Did you get it off ebay?

  • No, I got it from my train store.

  • Really? I've never seen MTH train in person

  • In real life that engine produced like 6600 hp!!!! I think it was two gp40 645s in that one unit! So sick!!! Awesome locomotive! Thats sweet that both exausts have serperate smoke units! Everytime I watch your videos I wish I had done O instead of HO lol!

  • Great Video! I'm still waiting for my CSX ES44AC, but it probably won't be in until late Jan. early Feb.

  • Yeah, I've got a couple of those CSX ES44's on order as well. Those should be nice!

  • hey nice loco

  • DUDE that thing is a beast, how many cars you think you can pull with that??? im gonna guess, well over 100, maybe 200. That thing is a BEAST!!!!!! GREAT VIDEO AND A VERY WISE PURCHASE!!!

  • Nah, it couldn't pull 200. It's still only the same 2 motors that any other diesel has.

  • I've seen this engine for passenger excursions or for a UP buisness train. Nicely done, Eric! Can't wait to see the next layout update!

  • Excellent clip Eric... man, that really is a beast, The catalog does not do it justice. 5***** as always my friend !!!

  • what a beast ... how many cars was it pulling i lost count

  • 36 cars

  • im guessing it has passenger sounds bc this engine runs by itself or as a helper unit with the challenger for today's excursions-maybe answers why passenger cars are sold seperately... but yeah it was used for freight- weird!

  • Like I said, the fact it has passenger sounds makes it a little different. :)

  • Nice engine. but I thought that the DDA40X's where used in freight not passenger. And teh southern Belle name, I thought that was KCS not UP.

  • Sorry, I should have clarified. The engine was sold as a "UP Business Train" and there are 10 passenger cars that can be purchased with it. I'm not sure if there was ever a real business train like this, but then again real trains don't have 3 rails either. I downloaded the freight sounds so that I can load those into it as well if I choose to.

  • Awesome! What a beast!
